Nazli lovingly goes by Nazz/Naz, but not to be confused with the rapper Nas. She's had that misspelling happen before...
She once scored free drinks for her friends for arm wrestling and won. It's one of her proudest moments.
She once broke a guy's nose for pronouncing her name as "Nasally".
She watches F1 racing for the hot men and the hot men only.
Golden retriever energy. (Which is why her students think she's so fun!)
She recently celebrated her 2 years in Aurora Bay on June 8th.
Naz is the youngest of 5. She has 4 older brothers...if that's any consolation of how she was raised.
TL;DR:
Nazli is a 29-year-old elementary school teacher born to an astrophysicist and a math professor. Teaching has always been in her blood and she quickly followed her parents' footsteps in that. She grew up in a household dominated by testosterone, however, with growing up with four rowdy, but highly protective older brothers. She was bullied throughout middle and high school leading to her hospitalization, but survived and continued her studies and got her bachelor's in education. She moved to Aurora Bay to pursue her master's degree all the while, teaching 3rd grade at AB Elementary.
Her Story
Nazli Luna Deleri was the youngest born to Eren Deleri, an astrophysicist who had moved from Turkey to pursue his career further in the States, and Azra Birkan-Deleri an American-born math professor at UCLA. For once, there was a relief for both parents as they already had 4 rowdy boys running amok in the house, but very quickly Nazli caught up with playing rough and tough with her older brothers, much to her parents' dismay. However, there were moments where she enjoyed spending time with her mother, tending to their garden, getting mommy and me mani-pedis, and getting her hair done. Nazli did have the best of both worlds after all, and she enjoyed it! She and her older brothers were very close and the boys were very over-protective of their baby sister. Not until middle school. She was starting 6th grade when the youngest of the four graduated 8th grade and that...was when things took a turn.
Those bullies came in the form of pink, blonde, and glossy, and Nazli was not. Sure, she, too was starting to turn heads and have boys trip over themselves for her, but not at the expense of her middle school's queen bee. Rumors started off as small and petty as Nazli getting a nose job to intense racist remarks and photoshopped pictures of her that were plastered onto lockers and sent out throughout social media. As much as her parents tried to raise hell about it, the school administration "could only do so much" as the queen bee's parents were important school district sponsors. Nazli tried to grin and bear it through her middle school years, with the hope that switching schools for high school would help.
Wrong again. As fate would have it, the queen bee also just so happened to be at this new school and with a new hive, came new torment. Nazli essentially had no friends as most were afraid to be associated with her in fear of their reputation tanking. Her brothers did their best to help her out, but they could only do so much with their upperclassman power. It got to the point where Naz couldn't deal with it any longer. Her grades were high, but her self-esteem was dangerously low. Grinning and bearing it was becoming too much. She often cried herself to sleep most nights and deleted all her socials. She tried her best to lay low as she possibly could to keep the hate away. Until she met Max during her senior year.
Max was a new kid, very timid, withdrawn, and kept to himself, but very much surprisingly into Nazli. The two became friends and slowly a relationship blossomed. Max was Nazli's first...and she hoped her last. Towards her, he was charming and sweet, remembered her favorite flowers, and every detail about her to the amount of shoes she owned. She truly thought and hoped, like many teen girls, he'd be her one and only. However, Max's intentions were shown on prom night. The reveal that he was the queen bee's cousin and dated her only to humiliate her was what pushed Nazli over the edge. Waking up in the hospital to her worried mother and her father and brothers in tears put so much shame on her. However, her family as close and tight-knit as they were held their support and got Naz the help she needed and ultimately, she was able to stand on her own two feet.
By the following spring, she was attending UC Irvine and getting her bachelor's in elementary education. Once moving back to LA, she kickstarted her career as a kindergarten teacher, then worked her way up to 5th grade, then 4th grade, and 3rd grade, where she stayed until she left for Aurora Bay to pursue her master's degree in education and also teach 3rd grade there...okay and maybe to also be nosy and see what one of her brother's is up to with his life, too.
Connections:
College friends: Naz's first friends in a very long time. They're her A1s from Day 1.
Besties: Her current besties, the ones she hangs out with the most alongside her college friends.
Unlikely friends: Name something completely unhinged and that's probably how their friendship began.
Neighbors: Who can tolerate her saying, "good morning, how are you today"?
Clubbing friends: Let's gather the troops and go out on the town!
Colleagues: The people Naz works with. Maybe they get along? Maybe they don't?
jessie’s girl: what would you do if you found out your best friend was seeing your ex?
"If it's Max, then that best friend is no longer a best friend," Nazli responded plain and simple. She then sighed and said, "Okay, and then I'd cry about it at home, eat at least two pints of Ben & Jerry's, get belligerently drunk, delete any piece of existence of said 'best friend', and move on with life. I've only ever had one 'serious' ex and that was high school. So there's that."
Ricardo often frequented the Sweet Spot Creamery, having a penchant for the sweet taste of ice cream after a long shift of sitting in his office doing the bare minimum.
"Well, I happen to like rum and raisin, and oddly... sometimes that goes well with mint, or bubblegum. But I often get called a weirdo for that, so I wouldn't listen to me." He teased.
"Rum and raisin? I've never had a flavor like that before. Is there...actual rum in it?" Nazli asked the man curiously. "Hm...well, I'm never afraid of trying anything new. Would you prefer the bubblegum or the mint with the rum and raisin?"
Was Maura late for work? Yes. Did she care? She'd say yes. Did that stop her from calling into the creamery on her way past? Absolutely not.
It does however, cause her to huff whilst she waits line, the slow movement was only making her later — and as much as she could wrangle her boss, she didn't want to listen to a lecture.
"Oh—" was it the huff? Maura wonders, as she steps forwards, finger pointing at the glass counter as she orders her choice. "Bubblegum, please. Extra sprinkles" she hums, picking her favourite flavour.
"Don't think about it too hard, that's too much pressure, just point to two and go for it."
Nazli could feel her face heating up in embarrassment. The way the other brunette could just easily pick her flavors like she could in her sleep and here Nazli Deleri was, being a complete idiot because she couldn't figure out the perfect pairing.
"Yeah..." She tried laughing off for a moment. Shake it off, girlypop. If she could command a classroom and tell men to bite it, she could order two scoops on a bad day, right? Right.
"One scoop strawberry shortcake and...one scoop of brownie with hot fudge, please," she finally spoke up. "Rough day," she finally sighed out.
"Shit-!" He cursed to himself barely managing to catch his beat up hat from getting blown off his head. Clint worked to hoist the trap he had set earlier that day from the water while Luna whined, eagerly pawing at guys leg. He peered up at the horizon, making note that the storm he had been watching brewing a few miles out appeared to loom closer. Angry growls of thunder rolled over the sound of the waves crashing into the structure. " 's gonna be a nasty one." The observation came as he finally got the trap over the edge and let it crash down onto the wooden boards. Not as much of a catch as he was hoping for, but it was better than nothing.
Nazli had been heading back after her time of reading at the beach when she heard the roll of thunder from a distance. Her brow furrowed as she looked out onto the horizon, which looked...ugly. At the sound of the crash, she jumped and yelped, thinking that lightning had struck nearby until she saw the man with his dog. "Oh," she breathed out in relief. "Sorry about that, I thought lightning struck and I surely thought, 'ah yes, this is it, the cruel irony'," she attempted to joke off.
Enjoying something sweet after a day of hard work was just the thing that Jason needed. Besides ice cream was a good reward for himself to keep the motivation going. His eyes glanced around before he noticed that he wasn't alone. Didn't know how he didn't see her but seems he was more oblivious than he thought. Maybe the thought of a couple scoops of ice cream was keeping his mind preoccupied.
"Alright, I was figuring that which scoops I want." He chuckled a bit as he weighed the option between a few flavors. "That's not silly, I do the same thing myself."
"That's a relief that I'm not the only one torn on flavors," Nazli laughed lightly and turned back to the ice cream menu with a pout. "It's just hard, especially when you're dead set on one flavor, but finding the complementary is the hard part. I mean," she turned back to Jason, "Normally, I'd say oh I'll just get the same scoops. But what's the fun in not mixing things up, right?"
Ramsey had been waiting a bit to figure out what she had wanted to treat herself to. She always had to have a little extra something to get her through the day. It was so millennial coded but it did help especially when things were feeling a bit rough. “ not it makes perfect sense. You don’t wanna put coffee with mango or something. Did you have a first flavor?” She asked not wanting to just go in front of her yet @nazli-deleri
"I'm just glad people understand the dilemma," Nazli sighed, almost defeatedly. "Definitely the brownie. I've been craving that for days, but I'm going back and forth with pairing it with cookies and cream or peanut butter, to make it taste almost like a frozen Reese's type of vibe, does that sound extra?" She asked the brunette.
Kaede had been in line with his daughter who had been taking her time to decide on a flavor. He didn’t mind her taking a bit longer because he’d rather her like what she picked up versus wanting to switch things after it was already scooped. “ actually we’re still kind of looking too. If you have any advice on what a seven year old might light she’d be grateful “ Kaede noted with a small smile as his daughter Layla looked from the menu to the woman and explained she couldn’t decide. “ where are you at with your choices?” @nazli-deleri
Nazli smiled at the man and his daughter. At least she wasn't the only one stuck on what flavors went well together. "Hmm, that's a great question. It all depends," She knelt down so she was leveled with the little one. "Do you want something that's super duper sweet that'll make your teeth hurt too? Or something simple like strawberries with vanilla?" She asked with a smile and then looked back up to the man. "I dunno, it's a hard one. What are you set on, sir?" She asked.
Alice chuckled, but she understood where the woman was coming from, it was beyond hard to make a choice on a flavor. "Hmm...those are good choices but personally I would choose the strawberry cheesecake, but red velvet sounds amazing too. Now you have me second guessing my own choice."
"You know what?" Nazli grinned with the brightest idea. "Combine forces. I think the cheesecake with the red velvet should be both sweet and savory. Plus, red velvet is technically chocolate. It should work. You're a genius!"
"It's a lot, the whole sparkly vampire part throws me off. I like a sexy vampire as much as the rest, but did they really need to sparkle? Can't they just burn in the sun like normal ones?" He always had this opinion on Twilight, though he still suffered through every single film as his sister would watch it. Hearing they weren't vampires in this book he laughed and nodded, "That's good, it'd be weird if they went all BDSM with sparkles. Though, it could be entertaining." That thought wasn't going to leave his mind for a while. "I might check that one out then, if it really left such a mark on you it surely must be worth a read." He was open to trying anything at this point. "Nazli, it's a pleasure." He said with a smile then released her hand, "So what brought you in here today?"
"It's why Anne Rice's vampires are far more superior than Stephenie Meyers...in my opinion. They burn in the sunlight yes, but they're sexy and don't sparkle under the light like unicorns," Nazli agreed with Trevor. As someone who grew up strictly Team Jacob, she found the vampirism aspect of the books quite silly. "The amount of glitter that would be wasted on the different sex scenes..." She trailed off and started to laugh. The thought of it had her laugh so hard, in fact, she snorted a little and cleared her throat. "Sorry about that, um, yeah! The Priest series, very riveting series," She grinned. Hopefully, it was a nice save. "Well, certainly not erotica, but, I wanted to find a few romance books. It's a beach day today, so I grab at least two books, some wine, and a charcuterie board to enjoy the day. What about you?"
"Wait, you don't just get... one flavor and call it a day?" Nira looks confused as they check out the counter before glancing back at the other person. "I didn't think mixing and matching would be good, but is it?"
"If it was any other day, yes, I so would but on a day like today..." Nazli sighed, shaking her head, "I'm going to need at least two complimentary scoops to get me through the rest of the day. But yeah! Mixing and matching is how magic happens. Like..." She paused and pointed to the two in front of her. "If you're a fan of mint and chocolate those two together? Heavenly. Or, a classic would be like a cookies and cream with coffee. It's all about balance."
Hearing her description of the book made him even more confused. He vaguely remembered his mother or sister watching the film before but didn't know much about it. The parts he saw weren't exactly screaming kinky or at least not the kind he was into. "Twilight?" That he'd seen, even if he'd rather not admit it. Wasn't the biggest fan but he didn't quite understand why someone would write such a thing. He could get behind some BDSM writing but the fact the two were linked confused him. "Are there vampires in it too? The sparkly kind? I could get behind a spicy book but it sounds terrible." His brows knit together as he looked at her, "Thank you for saving me the trouble. I'm Trevor, by the way." He realized he hadn't actually met this girl before and offered out his hand.
"I know, sparkly vampires and shirtless werewolves, insane," Nazli laughed. "I guess the author wanted to do a steamier version of that. I mean who knows maybe Breaking Dawn inspired her to go the extra mile with it--" before she could add on, his question came up and she let out a laugh. "Oh god, no. They're all human in this one, the dynamics are more intensified too. It's just...hm...the whole series in general was painfully juvenile. However, if you're interested then there's the Priest, Sinner, and Saint series by Sierra Simone. That one...I think I had an existential crisis after that one," She rambled for a moment, realizing she did she laughed it off. "Totally fine, I'm Nazli," she smiled, shaking the man's hand.
Gillian had an off day but that didn't mean she didn't want to annoy her coworkers--plus, she told her boyfriend she'd bring home some ice cream for them and a small puppy pint for their dog to enjoy too with the weather getting warmer, so here she was, perusing her options when she heard the comment of the woman ahead of her and she shook her head, waving off the offer, "Nah, you're totally fine! I'm in no rush. And please, that's the opposite of silly and is actually gravely important. I mean, what if you waste all this time in line and then the money on it and it turns out a shit choice? Day ruined." Clearly something Gilly had spent a lot of thought on.
"Once I thought mint and cherry would go well together and it was an awful mistake." Shaking her head, Gilly finally just let out a laugh and nodded over to her, "What're you thinking though? Like, sweet and salty? Chocolatey and fruity? There's always free samples too."
There was an air of relief at Gillian's reassurance of not being in a rush, that and the fact she understood where Naz was coming from with her dilemma on choosing her two flavors for the day. "Thank you! There was one day I completely ruined my evening because I got banana pudding and strawberry cheesecake. Mind you, you'd think they'd go well together. But strawberry cheesecake is more tangy with pockets of graham crackers, banana pudding is on the sweeter side and creamier...if that makes any sense at all," she laughed at her rambling on about ice cream.
"Oh my gosh, that is the worst, I am so sorry! Mint is such a finicky flavor because you never quite know what it'll go well with aside from chocolate." At the question, she tapped her chin in thought. "I think, I'll go with samples try and see which sweet and salty will go together. What about you?"
Luciana exhales as her eyes focus on the flavors, it's hard to tell what she actually wants now that she's standing there. It's always hard for her to pick food when she goes out and buys it. She tends to overthink it. She glances over to the woman speaking to her, shaking her head with a light chuckle. "No, I don't think it's silly because the last thing you want to do is put chocolate and bubble gum together, you know?" She gestures to the flavors. "I too am trying to figure out what flavors would be good together."
"See, you get it," Nazli smiled in relief. "It's hard to be faced with a variety of things, especially when your mind wants you to be adventurous and try something new. Chocolate and bubblegum is probably the worst pairing. But...I was thinking about maybe...pistachio with chocolate and a drizzle of hot fudge..." She tapped her chin in thought. "What about you? What's a flavor combination that would entice your senses?"
Mars briefly considered a subtle flick of his wrist to send the wine onto the grass below them, like he was a kid 'accidentally' dropping his vegetables onto the floor to render them inedible, but the attendants and sommeliers were hovering around them like vultures, presumably waiting for their guests to whip out their credit cards and drop a ridiculous amount of money on a bottle.
Instead, he frowned into his glass before sighing and taking the mouthful down (like a champ) and chasing it quickly with water. His whole body shivered. "God, if it's not then I'm suing this place for emotional distress, at least." If Mars had more shame, then maybe he'd care about the volume of his voice or the heads that turned his way at the proclamation. But he didn't, and instead of feeling bad about it he took another loud gulp of his water. "This whole thing is a scam. Have you had anything you've actually liked?"
Nazli eyed the other bottle in front of her. Now that one, was her favorite of the evening. An absolute showstopper in her opinion. It was sweet with a floral aftertaste that she couldn't quite put her finger on. She thought maybe, just maybe she'd splurge on this one bottle as long as it ranged within a reasonable "expensive wine" price...which ranged anything above 50 but not above 200 dollars. That was the hope.
She reached for her favorite bottle and shook her head at Mars taking the last swig like a shot. "If only," she sighed. "Oh, I agree, but...there was a showstopper this evening," she smiled triumphantly, holding the bottle. "If you're a person that likes sweet wines, like myself, you'd be a fan of this one. Although I'm sure it's stupidly expensive, too. I wouldn't mind dropping at least...150 on it if it meant I got to keep it. I mean look at how pretty the bottle is, too."
