"Happy Birthday, (y/n)!!" The team cheered as you walked into the Cortex.
"Aww thanks guys!" You beamed as you hugged each of them.
"Wait, we got you something" Barry says, handing you a wrapped box. You unwrapped it and inside was a small silver lightning bolt charm bracelet.
"Awe Barry! It's perfect!" You gush as you took it out and had him help you put it on. "Thanks, Bar!"
"Iris helped me pick it out ha ha" he smiled. "Oh! And, I got you a card" Barry pulls out a half crumbled birthday card.
"Happy Birthday, (y/n)!" Caitlin smiles as she hands you a basket of self care items. Expensive lotions, and candles that you'd been looking for for ages.
"Oh my gosh! The Sizzling Sweet collection?!" You exclaimed. "I've been looking for that everywhere!!"
"I know! I saw it at the store and had to buy you the whole set!" Caitlyn replies. "And killer frost, wanted to get you something also..."
She handed you a leather box, which to no one's surprise, had a knife in it.
"My gift to you" Cisco said as he wheeled out a mannequin. He unveiled the sheet to reveal a brand new suit. Blue and White with black trim, and a black lighting bolt.
You stood in awe before you sped into it. Enjoying the smell of fresh tech.
"Fully updated, mask with directions. And... check it" Cisco hands you a small box with a lightning bolt necklace.
"Aww Cisco, it's beautiful" you gasp.
"That's not all, press on it!" He urged.
When you did, the suit retracted into it. The team cheered.
"Yo! This is fucking awesome!" You exclaim.
"Finger print reactive so only you and can activate it!" Cisco said proud
Joe handed you a card with $300 inside it and gave you a dad hug. Itis planned an entire birthday dinner at a fancy restaurant and a spa day on Saturday. But the last person you were waiting for was Harry Wells, who told you he had something for your birthday.
"You called for me?" You peeked through the door.
"Yes. I did. Happy Birthday" Harry said curtly.
"Thank you!!" You say as you leapt into his arms and rapidly kissed his cheek. "Is Harrison Wells blushing?" You tease.
"Absolutely not" he deadpanned, but his smile was breaking through. "Actually, I got you something!" He set you down gently and turned around.
Sitting beside his desk was a tiny orange kitten with huge green eyes and massive paws that he clearly hadn't grown into yet. The second the kitten saw you, he let out a raspy little meow and tripped over his own feet trying to reach you.
Your mouth dropped open.
"No way..." You whispered.
The kitten climbed directly onto your shoe like he'd already decided you belonged to him.
"Oh my god," you breathed, immediately scooping him up. "Harry..."
The kitten instantly buried himself against your chest, purring so hard his tiny body vibrated.
Harry watched you carefully, trying and failing to keep his expression neutral.
"You said once that orange cats are statistically more reckless than other breeds," he said stiffly. "Which seemed fitting."
You blinked at him before laughing softly. "You got me an orange cat because he's chaotic?"
"I got you an orange cat because you're chaotic." Harry corrected.
You grinned so hard it hurt.
"He's perfect." You rubbed your nose against the kitten's head. "Hi baby..."
The kitten grabbed onto the chain around your neck with tiny claws.
"What's his name?" you asked.
Harry shrugged once. "I assumed you'd decide."
You looked down at him for a long moment. His orange fur was darker along his back, almost copper in the Cortex lighting. Wild green eyes. Trouble already written all over him.
"...Maverick."
The kitten meowed immediately.
Your eyes widened. "See? He likes it."
"He made a noise," Harry deadpanned.
But there was the faintest smile threatening the corner of his mouth.
You stood quickly and launched yourself at him before he could prepare. Harry caught you automatically with one arm while the other steadied the kitten between you both.
"Thank you," you whispered against his cheek before kissing it rapidly. "Seriously... this is the best gift anyone's ever given me."
Harry looked almost caught off guard by the sincerity in your voice.
"...Yes well," he muttered quietly. "He appeared to be the least irritating one in the litter."
—
A week later, Harry returned from Earth-2 exhausted.
The breach closed behind him with a hiss as he stepped into the apartment, shrugging off his coat immediately. Jesse's reactor issue had turned into an eight hour disaster involving blown circuits, three arguments, and one near explosion.
All he wanted was silence.
Instead, he was met with the faint sound of a TV playing somewhere in the living room and the smell of vanilla candles.
Harry pulled off his cap as he walked further inside.
Then he stopped.
You were asleep on the couch.
One leg tangled in a blanket. One arm stretched above your head.
And curled directly on your chest was Maverick.
The orange kitten was completely sprawled out across you, snoring softly while one tiny paw rested against your collarbone.
Harry stared at the sight quietly.
The apartment lights were dim, casting everything gold and warm. Maverick's favorite toy mouse was on the floor beside the couch. Your book had fallen open against your stomach sometime before you'd fallen asleep.
Something in Harry's chest softened painfully.
Maverick cracked one eye open when he noticed Harry standing there.
The kitten stretched lazily before settling back against you possessively.
Harry scoffed softly. "You weigh four pounds. Relax."
The cat blinked at him slowly.
You shifted in your sleep at the sound of Harry's voice.
"...Harry?" you mumbled tiredly, eyes still closed.
"Yes."
"You're home..."
"I live here."
A sleepy smile crossed your face. Your hand blindly reached outward until your fingers caught the sleeve of his shirt.
"Missed you."
Harry went still for half a second.
Then his expression softened into something quieter. Something only you ever got to see.
"I was gone less than a day."
"Still missed you."
Maverick lifted his head and meowed sleepily in agreement.
Harry sighed dramatically. "Wonderful. Now the cat's emotionally attached too."
You laughed weakly without opening your eyes.
Harry looked at the two of you for another long moment before finally disappearing down the hallway.
You frowned slightly in your sleep when you heard him leave.
But a minute later he came back carrying another blanket and wearing a pair of gray sweatpants instead of his slacks.
Carefully — and far gentler than anyone would ever expect from Harrison Wells — he draped the blanket over you and Maverick.
The movement made the kitten stir first. Maverick stretched dramatically before climbing off your chest and onto the cushion beside you.
Harry shook his head quietly before lowering himself onto the other end of the couch with a tired sigh.
A few minutes passed in silence.
Then, still half asleep, you shifted across the cushions toward him.
Your head eventually landed against his shoulder while your hand loosely slid up the front his shirt.
Harry froze briefly before glancing down at you.
"...Incredibly clingy," he muttered under his breath.
Maverick lifted his head at the sound of Harry's voice before hopping into his lap like it was the most natural thing in the world. The kitten circled twice before curling into a warm orange ball against Harry's stomach.
Harry stared at him in disbelief.
"You barely know me."
Maverick started purring instantly.
Harry looked down at the orange kitten now purring against him.
"...I liked the apartment better before the two of you started shedding everywhere," he muttered.
Maverick simply purred louder.
Harry sighed heavily, but his hand still absentmindedly moved to scratch behind the kitten's ears while you slept against his shoulder.
