Looking forward to seeing you all there!
The European Union (EU) has always viewed itself as the protector of European trade and economic development within the region.
Currently however, Europe is in crisis, banks are failing, the markets are in turmoil and the recession is digging deeper into Europe and the youth of Europe is bearing the brunt of these hard times.
Within the EU, 5.7 million young people are currently unemployed along with an additional 1.5 million who are in unstable and temporary jobs. In a number countries, as much as fifty percent of the youth are unable to find work.
In response to this challenge the 27 Member States have come together to discuss the dangers of the issue, and find ways to reduce levels of youth unemployment throughout Europe, through the Directive on Tackling Youth Unemployment. This proposal argues that all EU citizens under the age of 25 will be offered some form of employment, training of education four months after becoming unemployed.
The Canterbury Model EU will debate the Youth Guarantee, and all delegates will be taking on the roles of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs).
Distance travel? For prospective delegates outside Christchurch, please note there is funding available for delegates and their teachers (at $300/per person inclusive of gst) for travel and accommodation.
Teachers: there is teacher relief available. Please be in touch to arrange this.
