Your opinion of Lucien and the Band of Exiles?

I had to answer this just because I have a lot to say.

I love L/ucien, and the potential of the Band of Exiles -- specifically J/urian.

To start, L/ucien has been through a lot and has always been the most Faerie character in any SJM creation. He's flawed, and Fae and snarky. He's literally what I think SJM intended for R/hys to be. In ACOTAR, he really hates F/eyre because she literally killed his friend (and he kind of has a disdain for humans overall), yet he's the one who actually helps F/eyre the most in the end. He sacrifices himself time and time again UTM, as R/hys literally laughs at him. MAF!T/amlin took a lot of his abuse out on him, and L/ucien still tries. He's literally a victim of T/amlin and everyone makes snarky remarks about it. F/eyre is the reason he can't go back to the Spring Court, because she implemented him in her little stint in WAR.

BUT, you know what, L/ucien has never been evil or nasty. He even says -- and I literally wanted to throw the book -- that F/eyre was a better friend. WHENNN.

F/eyre knew I/anthe targeted L/ucien s*xually. That L/ucien was a victim and you know what she did --- She did the SAME thing to rouse T/amlin. She tried to literally get him killed. WHAT has F/eyre ver did to L/ucien as a friend?? What? When did she ever be half the friend he was to her? When did she stick her neck out for him? When did she do it SJM??

And poor L/ucien. SJM is willing to redeem E/ris, but not focus on L/ucien?? Like most people I've seen only read the books for him. I'm sorry but he's the most interesting character, but I guess he isn't Macho, grunting, Fae enough, huh? He's not some fucked up torture-guy, so he can't be a good love interest?

SJM ruined T/amlin and L/ucien's friendship, the HIGHLIGHT of TAR, so she could hype up the dusty s*xual assault guy. So she could make T/amlin abusive towards L/ucien out of nowhere. Does she know that we ALL read their wholesome relationship in TAR??? That T/am was willing to break his silence to beg for L/ucien?? Does she forget that L/ucien is a courtier, has a lot of friends?? Like does she think we didn't read the first book?

Then, she sticks him in the night court so they can just abuse him too. So F/eyre can feel good about herself and belittle the only prominent man of color (I'm sorry but the NIGHT court is just tan white men). They can keep sending him back to the Spring Court with an unstable T/amlin, just to belittle the both of them.

No, SJM biggest offense was thinking she could destroy the best character in this series.

And I don't think she'll do right by him. Someone asked if she was going to bring his snarky self back and she just said that "he has a lot going on right now." Like WHAT???

I have a ranty post about L/ucien in the drafts because I've seen too many stupid takes on him (associating him with MAF!T/am like nooo) and my mind just dies.

But as far as the Band of Exiles -- I hope they all stay human and I hope we get more J/urian and Vassa because they're the only remotely interesting characters. I'd love to read more about J/urian, the guy who was like humanity's champion. He's super villainized for no reason and that just speaks to SJM weird problem with her human characters. This guy was tortured for five hundred years and yet he's paid dust. Like the only people considered heroes is Miryam and Drakon and it's infuriating that J/urian is bad for...killing a SLAVE master. Like SJM do you know the message your sending by antagonizing humans for rising against their oppressors???

Just a friend reminder that Lucien Vansera knows perfectly well what it is to love and be loved . And never forget that JESMINDA (HER TRUE LOVE TILL NOW) CHOSE HIM AND DIED FOR THAT LOVE. he is NOT alone anymore. because he has Vassa and Jurian he has chosen them and they have chosen him. if you want to feel sorry for someone feel it for the people who have had the opportunity to have him in their life and have lost him(e.g Feyre) or for those who have not yet come to know him(e.g Elain and Helion)

Thoughts on Lucien?

I think that Lucien is in deperate need of a true friend. He has spent at least fourty-nine years with Tamlin. I understand that people are on the fence with Lucien because he didn’t help Feyre, but the thing is…

Feyre looked into his head in ACOMAF. She saw that he was in pain and he was hurting and he had been subjugated to Tamlin’s abusive nature for a very long time.

When Lucien did help Feyre, to the best of his ability, he got punished for it by Tamlin. Lucien doesn’t have anywhere to go. His own family tried to kill him, they murdered his love in front of him. All because she was a lesser fae.

He ran to the Spring Court because he had no where to go. It’s not like courts are just opening their borders to everyone. His brothers went after him, okay. They set out to kill him. And Tamlin let him into his court and he slaughtered two of Lucien’s brothers.

I feel like Lucien feels like he is indebted to Tamlin. Tamlin let him stay in his court. Tamlin gave him a home away from the monsters in his family. But I also feel like Lucien in on the tail-end of Tamlin’s temper.

He is Feyre’s friend. But Tamlin is his High Lord and his word is law. How much do you want to bet that when Lucien went after Feyre and didn’t come back with her that he was brutally punished for it? I would bet a lot. 

Tamlin thinks hes in love with Feyre, therefore his temper isnt completely out of control around her. But Lucien isn’t Feyre, he is his subject. And Lucien talking back to Tamlin, Lucien trying to get Tamlin to help her, those things would backfire and hurt him.

And then there is Ianthe, a manipulative shrew who deserves to have her throat ripped out. She kept pressing her advances onto him. Ianthe is drawn to power, and my baby fox has power. I am willing to bet he is the rightful High Lord Heir to the Autumn Court.

 And Lucien, because of his station, I am willing to bet he wasn’t able to turn her away. After all, she is such good friends with Tamlin.

I need him to level Tamlin. Yes, Feyre deserves this too. But I think that Lucien is the one who truly deserves to confront him. Tamlin is not only his High Lord, but he is supposed to be his friend. Lucien deserves to feel wanted, he deserves to feel protected. He deserves love and he deserves to be the one to end Tamlin, for all that he put him through.

As a victim of abuse, I can tell you, it is instinct to not push your abuser. It is instinct to keep your mouth shut to not escalate a situation. But for Feyre, he had tried to talk to Tamlin. And by doing that, of course we didn’t see the actual conversations, I’m willing to bet that Lucien paid dearly for opening his mouth.

Lucien is a victim of abuse, just as Feyre is. But where Feyre got out, where Feyre has friends and family, Lucien is alone.

 And he is alone with Tamlin and Ianthe.

I’m going to take all of this Eris and Lucien talk a step FURTHER and put forth the idea that once Eris realized that baby Lucien had sunshine powers, he went to his mom like “SOS we have a problem” and then worked tirelessly to find wards and spells to dampen or hide Lucien’s powers. Which worked, but with the side effect that Lucien’s fire powers were weak because they weren’t his dominant powers. Then Beron just hated Lucien even MORE for perceived weakness while his jackass brothers confused themselves because “if weak why big threat vibes” and the whole thing was just a cluster, but at least Lucien was SAFE.

What if Lucien’s damper on his powers is specifically tied to Beron’s death?

Hear me out. Eris and the Lady of Autumn plotted to put the damper on Lucien during his early childhood, when signs of his Day Court powers started to show.

Both of them realised that as long as Beron lives, Lucien will always be in mortal danger. This also strengthens the idea that when Helion kills Beron in the Blood Duel, Lucien’s powers will erupt into a blinding light.

So, not only will we get the scene in which Helion kills Beron. We will also get a paternity test result right after the kill. 

A gobsmacked Helion staring in wordless awe at Lucien. Then glancing inquiringly at the Lady of Autumn. Overcome with tears and trembling, she closes her eyes and nods. 

Unbeknownst to him, Helion has been a father for over 300 years.

Lucien is speechless, his limbs heavy like lead, as Helion is nearing, seeming in a dreamlike trance. And when there’s almost an arm’s length distance between them, Helion and Lucien stare into each other’s eyes. 

Two broken hearts mirroring each other’s pain and loveless existence. 

Two males who had been stuck in their ouroboros of self flagellation for centuries on end. Lucien for Jesminda. Helion for the Lady of Autumn. 

Father and son. Son and father at last. 

"Lucien.” 

Love. Fear. Shame. And pain, so much pain echoes in Helion’s voice. But most of all, love. A father’s true love, momentarily dulling all the horrors of the past. 

Ah, Lucien thinks. So this is what’s been missing all my life. 

Even though Helion wasn’t there when Lucien spoke his first word, he is now when Lucien whispers: 

“Father...”

And while the corpse of the male, who robbed them of all the goodness and the love in their lives is still warm on the ground, Helion and Lucien embrace. 

And the world is complete once again.

i have the impression that nyx will idolatre lucien (as he should). he won't see uncle lucien often as he sees uncle cass and uncle az and it will intrigue nyx; uncle lucien won't be always there for his stupids questions. but it also will make nyx anxious to visit or be visited by lucien. so, when nyx will visit lucien and his thousand of libraries, he'll separate hundreds and hundreds of questions to ask his uncle.

Friendly reminder: Lucien got his eye taken out as punishment for speaking against Amarantha . Then disobeyed her orders and helped Feyre during the 1st trial then got whipped for it.

If that doesnt tell you that he's a loyal badass, then I dont know what will.

There is a lot of symbolism imbued in the scenes in which Lucien’s voice prevails over the world’s bigotry, foolishness and injustice. He never censored himself. He never hid the truth (though at times he did wrap his words in a more placating and appealing package. He’s our beloved 🦊 after all).

Regardless of how welcoming or unwelcoming his audience was, Lucien always verbalised what others were too afraid to say. 

He told Amarantha to crawl back into a hell hole.

He bellowed his warning to Feyre during the trials. 

He told Feyre exactly who Rhys was (or at least who he thought he was in ACOTAR). 

He took Feyre’s side and insisted that she train when Tamlin refused to listen.

He spoke out against Ianthe, Dagdan and Brannagh.

He never hid from Feyre what happened in Spring after she left in ACOMAF. 

He defended the Children of the Blessed at the beginning of ACOWAR. 

He spoke his mind about Elain’s healing treatment during ACOWAR. 

He called Eris a snake and never shied away from disclosing his family’s cruelty. 

He told Feyre that Rhys will need Tamlin in the future and breaking all ties during ACOFAS would prove to be foolish. (And Rhys promptly returned the next day. What better proof of Lucien’s wisdom. A High Lord found wisdom in an emissary’s words. Tamlin would never) 

He called Jurian and Vassa his friends despite Feyre showing her disapproval that he fell in with two exiled humans. 

He called Graysen a prick.

He's been frank about Nesta’s bone-chilling silvery glare and Valkyrie training. 

He saw through Cassian’s BS and told him to drop the brute act.

He never sugarcoated his words. He never stifled his voice. 

Lucien deserves the title “Truth Speaker” just as much as Mor does. (Or perhaps even more.)
