“What else would you have liked me to say, Cyrus?” It was a genuine question. The last thing that Sophie had intended on doing upon making a return was cause anyone to feel guilt about the situation. It was, after all, her own decision to take the drugs that had never been tested. Surely that was an indication that no one deserved to feel guilty, was it not? At one time, Sophie would have wrapped her arms around Cyrus and embraced him in a warm hug. One filled with an apology and some comforting words, but she couldn’t do it this time. Not only was she aware of how inappropriate the situation was, but it was unclear how Cyrus felt toward not only her but the predicament itself. “I am sorry.”
Cyrus didn’t know what he’d wanted to hear- honestly nothing she said could have changed what he was feeling in that moment. Her apology didn’t relieve the guilt he felt, nor did it relieve the emerging questions that pooped up as he remembered the night he’d found her. “I saw you,” he started, unsure of what his next words would be, “You were gone. I’d given you something and, it was too much. Your heart stopped, I think, I mean, I called the police and...” he stopped. “How can you even be here.”
