This is dedicated to bbxkira, who specifically requested for horror/gory Beyond Birthday fanfictions without too much BB/L romance. These are not romance, so much as horror. Light Yagami as Kira plays a major role in most of them.

Scarlet Letter by RobinRocks: Possibly the best fanfiction in which B is a main character. BxLxLight. It’s pure horror. The writing is excellent, 100% recommended.

Butterfly Caught: BBxLight. Very interesting, and very smutty. Recommended if you’re 18+ only, please. One of the smuttiest fics in the whole fandom, I think (along with Nights). Romance/Horror.

I Disappear: A one shot from the writer of Genius is a Curse; deals with what happened to Beyond Birthday in canon, after his trial and how he was killed by Kira. 100% canon and very nice. Angst/Tragedy. Recommended.

Collateral Damage: Beyond Birthday torturing Light Yagami, basically. From the writer of Genius is a Curse. Gore, gore, so much gore. Horror and violence.

Fatal Attraction: Beyond Birthday and Light Yagami as Kira are partners in crime. Includes romance between them, but perfectly in character. Crime/Horror. From the writer of Genius is a Curse.

Between the Bones by Narroch: BxLxLight. I can assure you, this is amazing. You will love it. Pure horror and gore. One shot. Recommended.

The Prisoner by nilah-xapiel: BBxLight. “I will murder your conscience, Light… rape your future, and change your life.” Drama, crime, and includes romance. One shot. It looks amazing, very recommended.

B Driven Mad: Beyond Birthday and Light Yagami. I don’t think there’s romance between them, but this seems to be amazing. Light thinks he’s being followed by L’s ghost. Long one shot.

Psycho Love: BBxKira. Horror and gore and everything nasty. One shot.

Vengeance Most Foul: BBxLight on L’s grave. I think it’s horror. One shot.

Dangerous: BBxLight. Smut. One shot.

Beyond Distracting: BBxMisora. Romance/Horror. Based off canon (LABB Murder Cases). Long one shot, from B’s third person POV, and not Misora’s.

the show must go on by deathnoting: BB x A. Talks about Beyond Birthday’s childhood, his time with A, and how A committed suicide. This is brilliant. The writing is beautiful, and it deals with depression, suicide, and child psychological trauma. Beyond Birthday is the main character, of course, and he has some very nice, actual characterization. It’s amazing. 100% recommended. Very, very long one shot.

the haunters by deathnoting: LxB. Victorian gothic AU. Romance/Tragedy. The writing is very beautiful. One shot. “Love is an imperfect science and B is an imperfect scientist.” Fiction T.

Beyond the Ripper: A very short one shot, from B’s POV. I think it’s AU with Beyond Birthday as Jack the Ripper. Horror.

Notes:

There are many amazing LxLight fanfictions which include canon Beyond Birthday as well, most likely through BxL or BxLight. B is not the main character in them, however, because L and Light are. Examples of these fanfictions are Nights, where Beyond Birthday is portrayed amazingly, and very human. He has an actual characterization, a brilliant one. The main plot is LxLight romance, then B appears suddenly and plays a major role in the development of the plot through BxL. B’s own character is explored very exceptionally. Definitely 100% recommended, but it’s a very long work.

Also, Beyond Birthday shows up in Silence, the sequel of Asylum, which is mainly LxLight, but B plays his role through BxLight, and the BxLight parts are brilliant, because B was trapped with Light in the asylum as well. B and Light go on adventures, too. Light goes through psychological trauma because of B.

Since most of the worthy fics recommended here are one shots, it’s not a surprise that B doesn’t have a strong characterization. This doesn’t stop the work itself from being amazing, however, because even B’s homicidal tendencies in these fics are very interesting to witness. It’s fun, and it’s quality.

You have my word that you will like everything you read from this list if you’re into this genre of fiction, of course.

The tardigrade genome has been sequenced, and it has the most foreign DNA of any animal

Scientists have sequenced the entire genome of the tardigrade, AKA the water bear, for the first time. And it turns out that this weird little creature has the most foreign genes of any animal studied so far – or to put it another way, roughly one-sixth of the tardigrade’s genome was stolen from other species. We have to admit, we’re kinda not surprised.

A little background here for those who aren’t familiar with the strangeness that is the tardigrade – the microscopic water creature grows to just over 1 mm on average, and is the only animal that can survive in the harsh environment of space. It can also withstand temperatures from just above absolute zero to well above the boiling point of water, can cope with ridiculous amounts of pressure and radiation, and can live for more than 10 years without food or water. Basically, it’s nearly impossible to kill, and now scientists have shown that its DNA is just as bizarre as it is.

So what’s foreign DNA and why does it matter that tardigrades have so much of it? The term refers to genes that have come from another organism via a process known as horizontal gene transfer, as opposed to being passed down through traditional reproduction.

Horizontal gene transfer occurs in humans and other animals occasionally, usually as a result of gene swapping with viruses, but to put it into perspective, most animals have less than 1 percent of their genome made up of foreign DNA. Before this, the rotifer – another microscopic water creature – was believed to have the most foreign genes of any animal, with 8 or 9 percent.

But the new research has shown that approximately 6,000 of the tardigrade’s genes come from foreign species, which equates to around 17.5 percent.

“We had no idea that an animal genome could be composed of so much foreign DNA,” said study co-author Bob Goldstein, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. “We knew many animals acquire foreign genes, but we had no idea that it happens to this degree.”

I’m so disappointed. Tonight I got my purse stolen from backstage. I had my passport in there, my card, personal shit from my parents, etc. not only is this illegal, but the fact that whoever took it, did it because they look at it as some sort of twisted “souvenir”, makes me SICK. I hate this internet age we live in too, because I reach out on Twitter trying to find who took my purse and all you write is “mom” “Queen” “follow me”. How is that normal?! How is that okay? How do you sleep at night? My friend gives his number out for anyone who might have any info, and people call laughing, asking if they could talk to me, lying saying they have my purse and will give it back if I get their tweet to 2,000 favorites. Really? I don’t know how else to say this. I’m sick of artists feeling too scared to speak up on this issue. Just because I make music, doesn’t mean you have the right to dehumanize me. You bully me, you judge me, you call me a bitch If I’m having a bad day, the list goes on and on. I work my ass off for you, I give so much of myself to you, and i go broke to create for you. Remember that I am a human. The fact that I was talking to another friend of mine who is an artist and she said that if we were bleeding on the sidewalk, people would probably take a selfie before helping us, is a problem. No human should feel this way. Please understand that I make music to express myself, and if you know anything about me you know that I’m nothing but honest. I love everyone who supports me and my music, and I appreciate it. But after tonight there was no way that I couldn’t speak up about this issue.
