[The way that Ned looked at him made him a little bit uneasy.  He was the first person to seem genuinely pleased to see Nikolai.  Suspicious.  Not only was he happy, but he was a little bit too charming for his own good.

He’d seen similar personality types in his cases.]

While I don’t mean to brag, I will agree with you that it is rare.  I’m well-versed in coming up with ideas, but not in leading…

My skills in the “people” department aren’t exactly up to par, Kendrick.  

Thank you for the compliment, though.

[He raised a brow as the younger man advanced towards him and shifted in his seat.  He pulled back, adjusted his glasses, and laughed softly.]

Tell me, what is it that you want from me?  While I’d like to believe you’re naturally charming, it’s rare to see someone who actually is glad to see me.

[Ned took a seat close by, legs folded, lightly resting his arms crossed over his knee. Studying Nikolai with a faint smirk.] 

You're right. I do want something.

[Nikolai wasn't the type of person who was going to be flattered by a pretty smile. Sadly, because those were the easiest to manipulate. Instead, Ned just gave him a grin, letting his gaze happily sweep up and down Nikolai.

Well, this certainly wouldn't be a hardship.]

I'm not one for sitting around and waiting for the... less intellectually endowed members of our little society to gather their wits. I don't think you are, either. So why don't we have a little think tank, hm?

Skylar stood up and stretched, a small smile on her face. She slung her bag over one shoulder and eyed her fairly small “arsenal” which consisted of a crowbar and bonesaw, though the bolt cutters were pretty heavy and could be a decent melee sort of weapon. Skylar sure liked weapons for wailing on things. It was good stress relief, after all. She hoped there was a martial arts center nearby so she could get her hands on a kanabo.

After hooking her bonesaw onto her utility belt, she took the crowbar and sauntered over to Nikolai. She wasn’t exactly expecting to be chosen for this supply run, but it didn’t exactly mean that she wasn’t willing. She was more than happy to assist. Maybe she’d even get a good look at whatever medical supplies she came across, just in case.

"I sure hope we get going soon. I’ve got a few things in mind that I’m itching to get my hands on."

This was fucking ridiculous.

Sending out the meatshields in order to bring back supplies? Of course. That was the natural conclusion. But this? Sending him out there? That was like expelling half of the total brain power of the entire colony all at once.

But if they were going to do this insane thing, they were going to do it right. Which was why Ned marched up to the group - which was basically the definition of rag-tag - and promptly tied a clean rag around Dim Dim's mouth, effectively gagging him.

"Listen up, you ingrates," Ned said, dusting off his hands and pulling a gun out of his bag, two machetes strapped to his hips. "They track by sound and quick movements. So keep your disgusting gobs closed and try to keep a steady pace. If any of you fuck up, I will leave you behind."

He moved next to Nikolai, winking at him. "Well, then. Imagine meeting you here."

[Zane laughed. Hearing Kendrick’s sarcasm always brightened up his day, but hearing Kendrick’s jealous sarcasm was even better.

Taking another forkful of his food, he looked back at the man sitting opposite to him, brow raised. Zane could feel the man trying not to look at plate of food sitting in front of him. The plate was still about halfway full, more than enough to share if Zane wanted. But really, why would he share after going through the trouble of taking the food away from everyone else? If Zane was the sharing type, he would still be eating the minuscule food portions he had been given before. Hearing the man’s words, Zane just gave a shrug and continued eating. It’s not that Zane can’t come up with any plans to better everyone else’s living situation, he just doesn’t care. He already found a way to get the food he needs, why should he worry about everyone else?] When ya’ decide ta’ go out dere an’ get some food, see if ya’ can find me some Milky Way, why don’tcha? Been dyin’ to eat one o’dose lately.  [Flashing another smug smirk toward the man, Zane picked up the small cup that sat next to his plate, and held it up to his lips as his eyes locked on Kendrick’s. Lifting a brow, he slowly took a small sip of the cold water, almost trying to show off to the man in front of him. Not only did he have a plate full of food, he had cold water as well. More than Kendrick appeared to have, that’s for sure.  Pulling the cup away from his lips, smirk still spread across his lips, the man actually extended his arm toward Kendrick, the cup of water still in his hand. Holding the cup close to the man’s face, he chuckled.]

Yer’ gonna need some wate’ if yer’ goin’ on a run. We would hate t’ see ya’ out o’ breath an’ dyin’ out dere widdem walke’s. [He laughed at his own sarcasm.] Think o’ it as early payment for da’ Milky Way if ya’ want.

[Oh, how he loathed this man. He was cocky, obnoxious, a weasely runt of a human being. God knew that good taste was practically non-existent in this settlement, but Zane seemed to revel in his lack of it.

And yet Zane had figured out how to steal from the even dumber. That should be rewarded. Or used. Either one.

With a broad smirk, Ned took the cup, moving to straddle Zane's lap, facing him. He took a sip, keeping eye contact the whole time. His tongue darted out to slide along his lower lip, chasing the drops of water left behind.] 

Oh, I think you and I both know that I'm far too smart to go and get my ass chomped on out there.

However, there are people who would be more...disposable.

Between the two of us, I'd wager we could set up a nice little operation here.

[A slow little grin worked its way across Ned's face.] 

Trust me, sweetheart. My price for procuring items would be something far more mutually fun.

Jagger began to frequently worry over the community’s defenses and would often venture out to the different barricades to check for weak points. While some of the survivors were brilliant or strong-willed folk, his trust in any of them was near non-existent. Only Team South had his good, well-earned faith.

For as many people that lived in the community, Jagger was growing increasingly frustrated with how many of them lacked basic survival skills. In this new world, shooting was something everyone should know how to do, yet half of the survivors were still coddled, entitled pricks.

After pulling the strap of his crossbow over his shoulder, Jagger stepped out of the hotel not long after dawn to inspect the walls for what had to be the 100th time, if only for his own piece of mind. While he’d yet to find a truly jeopardizing weak point, there was one wall in particular he wanted to check out again. 

If this “business arrangement” were going to work out, then finding a way in and out of the community, away from prying eyes, would become necessary. 

Arriving at the barricade, he moved to a particularly large piece of metal that had been leaned crudely against the constructed wall and set his crossbow to the side. Reaching into his back pocket, Jagger pulled out a pair of work gloves and slipped them on before hooking his fingers over the ridge of the metal.

Bracing his foot against the wall, he pulled back the metal with grunt, before peering over into the narrow gap it had been covering. He could make out the street on the other side and was certain, with effort, he could slip through if he tried. 

But try he did not as the sound of someone walking over started him out of his silent observation.

"Whaddya want?" Jagger called over his shoulder gruffly, replacing the metal back over the gap.

The worst part about this whole post-apocalyptic garbage heap was not the lack of basic amenities or the complete lack of culture or purpose beyond the desperate need to survive. It was how useless most of these damn people were. They had nothing to offer, no power he could use, nothing he wanted. What was the point in using people if he couldn't get anything out of it?

But there were a few. Self-elected leaders, the type-A's that had puffed themselves up and decided they got to run the damn show. And really, Ned was okay with that. There wasn't much fun to being the guy on the throne. But the one pulling the strings?

That was exactly where Ned wanted to be.

So, despite the unwashed hobo-stench quality of Jagger - which was a completely stupid name - Ned had cleaned up to go see him. A tight t-shirt, a pair of jeans he knew showed off his ass, some of his sandlewood lotion rubbed in all the right places... This disgusting little man better appreciate the work Ned had put into this.

"Don't shoot." He raised his hands half-playfully, a smirk teasing around the corners of his lips. "I come in peace."

Surrounded by idiots, that’s how Colby felt. The more time he spent around these fools, the lower he felt his IQ dropping. He began to regret his decision of coming here more as each day passed. Between the arguing and people trying to be social, he could feel his anger just rising with each passing minute. It was taking every last bit of restrain that he had to not snap one of these asshole’s necks.

"Of course I get stuck with a bunch of dumb fucks during the end of the world. Just my luck," Colby sighed as he shook his head. "C’mon, Bandit, let’s go somewhere less crowded with dipshits," Colby said to the pit bull at his feet as he pushed himself off of the wall he was leaning against. The dog wagged it’s tail and began to follow after him as Colby left the room in an attempt to find a quiet, empty place in the crowded hotel.

Normally, Ned wasn't really the social butterfly type. He could charm when he had to, but if there wasn't a benefit he didn't really see the point.

But honestly? He was just bored. 

He wanted something to do. Anything. 

...Like that man. That tall, gorgeous man. He could do that for several hours.

"It's not often I agree with anyone in this nuthouse," Ned said with a broad, charming grin. "But I can understand the urge."

He held out his hand, giving him a long up and down look, appreciating the view. "Ned. Blackwell. I don't think I've had the pleasure yet."

[ She’s still just as annoyed by the presence of others as she was the moment she arrived at the hotel—- although; she’s been more on the quiet side, simply observing and watching the others as tempers raised and blood boiled adding fuel to the already growing fire. 

         She doesn’t see the point in expressing her own opinions when there are already so many going unheard; as if a select few survivors deemed themselves to be superior than the rest, as if their word was set in stone and the others had to abide by every rule and command.

       Was that you volunteering?

I mean—- by the looks of it, you’re just sitting around too. If you want something done, you should go out and do it yourself.

[The worst part of this entire debacle was being forced to share air with people who were worthless to him. They offered him no entertainment value, they held no power, they offered nothing except a drain on resources. 

And possibly potential breeding and or food stock. He wasn't sure which one would be more disturbing.

Here was another one. Ned hadn't bothered to learn her name. 

He'd call her Perky Boobs. That seemed appropriate.

Sighing, Ned turned to her, arms folded. He gave her an up and down look before smirking faintly.] 

Darling, you don't waste an antique table as kindling. 

You seem expendable. Let's throw you to the horde and see if you can be of any use at all.

[Why did all the drama seem to find him whenever he was quite successfully keeping to himself?  Nikolai glanced up at Ned, shifted in his seat, and cocked his head to the side.]

While I fully agree that being idle isn’t the most intelligent choice, we do need to consider the best time of day, what sort of defense we should bring along, and who will go.  Planning is something that needs to be put into action before we can head out into the city, Kendrick.  

We need to figure out a rotation…something, so it’s fair.

[A small smirk came across his features.]

And no executions are allowed.

Ned's lips curved upwards into a slow smirk, his gaze dragging up and down Nikolai. There was something wonderful about an older man in control. Especially when Ned had a way to manipulate them and use that control to his benefit.

Really, that was his favorite type of person. One who had something he wanted.] 

Hmm, finally, a man who has a plan. A rare feat in this place.

[Sliding into the seat next to Nikolai, Ned rested his elbow on the table, head propped up as he gave Nikolai a charming smile.] 

Tell me, why aren't you in charge of our little venture?  Someone of your commanding presence is sorely needed.

[The bottle is left outside Ned's room. It's dusty and the top is covered with dirt, obviously having been found in some destroyed back room of the empty store. Attached is a note:]

Oh, well, wasn't that adorable? Ned just grinned, picking up the bottle, reading the note with a laugh. 

Yes, Dim-Dim. He knew exactly what you wanted him to choke on.

He washed the bottle off with some care before pulling up his chair to the window. Feet propped up on the sill, Ned poured himself a healthy glass and sat, content, sipping his drink and smoking a cigarette.

This was the good life, right here. Fuck the rest of them.

It was good to be adored. Even by a hopped up little pussy like Dim-Dim.

[After his small argument with some of the fellow survivors, Zane had taken his “food portions” into his own hands. From now on, when no one was looking, he would take whatever amount of food he thought was acceptable for a man of his size. The damn kids of the group didn’t need it, and he did. 

He couldn’t help but walk around the colony with an obnoxiously smug look about him after that. Not that it was much different than his usual appearance, but at least now he was well fed. Or as well fed as he could be in this godforsaken camp.  The man was sitting by himself in one of the tables of the hotel when another man barged into the room, clearly irritated.That man was Kendrick Blackwell, a man who looked irritated possibly ninety-nine percent of the time. So this was like every other day, huh? Hearing the man’s words, Zane immediately laughed. Kendrick was barging into a room to complain about his hunger, and here Zane was eating a plateful of leftovers.  Could a man like Kendrick, who liked to think he was smarter than everyone else, be dumb enough to not even think about simply stealing some more food from the other survivors? That truly made Zane laugh.  Looking up at the angered yeti, he held his own fork up to his mouth, and savored the food in it. A smug smirk spreading across his lips.]

I agree wit’ ya’, Kendrick, some o’ dese’ people are just fuckin’ lazy. But ‘ey, ya’ look like ya’ could use ta’ lose a couple o’ pounds, so how ‘bout ya’ run out dere widdem’ walke’s and get us some more grub?

[Stealing required work. Stealing meant you were too idiotic to have someone give you what you needed. 

Stealing was the act of the short-sighted. It required you to continually put effort into your own existence. One might as well just earn what one needed.

Giving Zane a slow once over, Ned considered his options. As utterly annoying this neanderthal's boil was, he had managed to scrape together food when others were going without. Which made him marginally more useful than the dung on the bottom of his disgusting, two-dollar shoes.] 

Aren't you hilarious.

[He half smirked, sitting down opposite Zane, doing his best not to look at the yawning maw masticating the food.] 

You are absolutely right. I mean, clearly you couldn't come up with a plan to save your life, so I probably should be the one to solve this particular problem.

[Delicately wiping his mouth on his handkerchief - one never knew what sort of horrible diseases rats like that carried - Ned settled back in his chair, pouring himself another glass of wine.

Well, that had been amusing enough for the moment.]

He was hungry. And yet no one in this pathetic excuse for a settlement had seemed to think far enough ahead to make sure there was adequate supplies for their growing numbers.] 

I do not know which one of you has made the decision we should sit around and wait for heavenly mana, but I assure you, you are wrong.

We need to send someone out for supplies. Short of that, we should decide which one of us is the least worthwhile and take them out back to shoot them for food.

[The slap was hilarious. The sting of it spread across his cheek, a warmth blooming through his skin. Ned reached up to touch what would most definitely be a large hand-print standing out against his cheek.

He'd finally pushed the dear little Dim-Dim over the edge.

A spark of vicious glee tightened in his gut, a rush of fury lapping at his skin, and Ned reached out to grab Dimitri's tie, hauling him in for a kiss that was more violent domination than anything else.] 

You're a fucking little liar, Dim-Dim. All you can think about is getting your withered little prick wet in my ass.

[He laughed, biting Dimtri's lip, hauling him in closer.]
