So, this semester I started doing the Autonomous Learning course at university here in Japan. I wanted to challenge myself so I chose to read 人間失格 (にんげんしっかく) by 太宰治 (Dazai Osamu), which is one of my favorite books. It is tough and I’m very slow (one page takes me 1 hour to read) but I hope I’ll be able to see some progress in a couple of months.

Here’s some of the vocab I picked up: 幼年 (ようねん) : childhood 推定 (すいてい) : presumption, assumption 想像 (そうぞう) : imagination, guess 傾ける (かたむける) : to incline, lean, tilt (ex: 頭を傾ける; to tilt one’s head) 鈍い (のろい) : indulgent (esp. to the opposite sex), doting お世辞 (おせじ) : flattery, compliment 謂わば (いわば) : so to speak, so to call it, as it were
