the gelphie-fication of the wicked years is my favorite thing
cuz obviously glinda's important to elphaba in the first book and continually haunts her narrative, but i've always seen it as one important relationship of several, all of which converge and implode and ultimately build to the melting. it's a product of nessa's death and elphaba's desire for the shoes--representing her unresolved family issues--her anger around glinda 'betraying' her by giving the shoes away and not living up to her full potential and never fully being able to love her like she wants, feeling like her entire life has been controlled by morrible/the wizard and being frustrated she's unable to enact the political change she wants, and guilt around fiyero's death and sarima being unwilling to forgive her. the melting is symbolic of her being unable to make peace with these things
and while many of these relationships and threads are explored throughout the other books in the series, out of oz features glinda either dying and reuniting with elphaba in the afterlife or elphaba literally coming back from the dead and letting her out of prison. and you could argue this being a product of glinda being the only one alive and her arc being the last left to conclude. but i also think it's significant that liir/trism and rain/ozma both parallel gelphie in really obvious ways. rain/ozma literally end the series with a green girl leaving oz and a blonde girl ascending to the throne, and the another day series is all about rain trying to get back home, ultimately to ozma
it's why the "gelphie isn't canon in the musical" argument is very funny to me because the musical clearly inspired gregory to take his yuri pills and gelphie tf out
are you kidding me
elphaba being like "look at me" and then glinda's face lighting up and then she has to be like "no, try again you stupid dyke" is the funniest possible way they could've delivered that scene
elphaba (and glinda)

Cynthia Erivo as Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar
on a scale of lex luthor to elphaba thropp how do you handle your impending cancellation, commanding an army of monkeys, a betrayal by your blonde girlfriend, and getting someone's little dog, too and why is the answer blaming your life having gone to shit on a sweet kid from Kansas
were the brown eyes and blonde(r) hair really necessary to save him, elphaba?
Appropriate gym attire and appropriate hand gestures...the girls are loathing!

Sister Saint Ælphaba…
if Elphaba turned into a worm Glinda would be like eww eww ew but would commission a fancy enclosure and get premium lettuce and talk to her sometimes in the solitude of night in her frilly nightgowns like oh Elphie I do hope you’re comfortable even with all this odd business we find ourselves in You were always the bravest of us… but if Glinda turned into a worm Elphaba would just put her in a plain jar with a stick and would be like I don’t hold high regard for the worm it’s only a worm now but she would plant bushes to cut leaves from in her backyard garden every morning to put in worm glinda’s jar and if she saw children playing in her bushes she would yell at them and then go back to her room and post on r/childfree about it. even though she has a son
some lazy sunday sketching before bed 😴 Elphaba has not known peace since meeting this woman
I dont think homophobia existed in Oz, but I do believe Glinda made Madame Morrible invent it. Slurs were invented in Oz after Morrible was woken up at 1am by Elphaba demanding she get dressed and invite Glinda to join sorcery classes
two of the three werent passing that class anyway
