I WANT TO WRITE MY STORIES!!!!!!!!!!!! -> continues doing literally Anything Else besides writing
Plot of the game
Shoutout to Project Hail Mary for being the only media where the unconscious protagonist is dragged off screen by an alien spider monster and the audience's reaction is heartbreak on behalf of the alien spider monster.
also shoutout to my really tired old white guy gynecologist who when i said "i want a hysterectomy" did not push back at all and instead sighed, and without looking up at me from his tablet went "We'll have to do a bunch of stuff for insurance because it's a scam and otherwise they won't approve it" and then after laying out the plan walked me out and i dont know if we made eye contact once after shaking hands, which is exactly the kind of medical care i want in this day and age.
why does this have 32k notes? itâs just a picture of a knife in a ranch bottle, is there some unspoken joke that 32 thousand people share? what is going on here, i dont get it. itâs just a fucking picture of a knife in a ranch bottle. is there some spiritual connection people have to this picture? is there some ominous and mystical reasoning that this has 32 thousand notes? do people reblog this because it makes them look like some indie blogger? or is there just something funny to this? someone please explain
no one tell him
This has come on a bit since 32K notes, proving that Tumblr appreciates a really pointed observation.
How to Write an Unreliable Narrator
There are times when we all love a good unreliable narrator; there's just something about how warped their vision is--even if barely--that's absolutely enthralling.
However, when it's our turn to write such a character, it can become difficult to really bring out their unreliable-ness, especially when they're narrating the story because we (readers) have a tendency to assume the main character has pretty accurate perceptions.
Therefore, let's talk about how to bring out the bias, human, flawed judgement within a narrator in a way that's both obvious and subtle!
1. The Small "Unsure" Vocabulary
Step one is actually a very small yet major change, and all it really is is introducing uncertainty within your character's thoughts, observations, and inner dialogue.
It sounds complicated, but all I'm talking about is using phrases like "she thinks," "he isn't sure," and "they're pretty confident" to give your narrator more of a voice and most importantly, show that their standpoint is not 100% accurate.
There is a difference, although subtle, between "A is mad" and "He thinks A is mad."
2. Don't Be Afraid of Not Knowing
We like our characters to know things because it makes them seem capable and we think it's what the audience wants. However, there's also a beauty of not knowing. Contrary to what we may believe, a lack of knowledge doesn't translate to helpless, but it does make your characters feel a tad bit more unreliable. And that's what we're aiming for.
So don't be afraid of using "don't know." Your character can struggle to understand why their friend is crying. Or smiling. Or why they feel unsettled in a specific room.
3. Questionable Judgment Sometimes
An unreliable character is often just a more human character. They don't have to be unreliable because they're insane or weird; they can be unreliable because their beliefs, attitude, and emotions sway how they perceive reality a little too much.
Which means they will have biased, questionable judgment.
So let them take poor actions. Let them make mistakes. Let them make misunderstandings. Let them trust the friend they absolutely should not trust.
And they'll lie, against their better judgment, to protect themselves.
4. Conflicting Desires
These characters have contradictory desires. And it's not abnormal to be divided over two seemingly opposite wishes, but it presents indecisiveness and duality that make the reader realize "oh, they don't have everything figured out."
It can be something simple, like choosing between dieting to lose weight or giving in and eating a snack, or it can be something deeper. Like deciding whether to leave a friend because they're beginning to make you feel uncomfortable or staying because you've been friends forever and they might change.
Something as simple this sounds ineffective in theory, but it illustrates how your character thinks. That you character can't make perfect decisions.
5. They Miss Stuff
These characters will misunderstand. Will overthink. Will underthink.
There are times and situations where they look too deeply into simple words but can't read between the lines when it matters. They might overlook a friend's spiraling yet also might congratulate an ecstatic sibling with underwhelming enthusiasm.
Your audience will want to tug their hair out and reach into the pages to shake some sense into your character, but that's not a bad thing.
Because it shows your character isn't all-knowing. They miss stuff too, causing your readers to realize they can't solely rely on the narrator.
Remember! Unreliableness isn't necessarily a terrible thing. In each and every one of our lives, we're the unreliable narrator because we fall for bias. We can be close-minded. Self-centered. Neglectful. Unsure. We make bad calls.
That's what an unreliable narrator is.
Happy writing~

Habits That Reveal Deep Character
(A.K.A. the quiet stuff that says everything without screaming it)
â„ The âI Always Sit Facing the Exitâ Quirk They donât talk about their childhood much, but they always know where the exits are. Every restaurant. Every train. Trauma has muscle memory. Your job is to notice what itâs saying without needing a monologue about it.
â„ The âI Canât Sleep Until I Hear You Lock the Doorâ Habit It's not controlling. It's care shaped like paranoia. They say âGoodnightâ like itâs casual, but theyâre counting the clicks of the lock like a lullaby. Let that show more than âI love you.â
â„ The âI Keep Everything Youâve Ever Given Meâ Thing Not just gifts. Receipts with your doodles. The crumpled note you wrote when you were mad. Every bit of you that felt real. Itâs borderline hoarder behavior, but also? Itâs devotion.
â„ The âI Cook When Iâm Sadâ Pattern Their worldâs falling apart, but suddenly everyone has banana bread. Itâs not about foodâitâs about control, about creating something warm when everything else is cold. And they wonât say it out loud, but they're asking, âWill you stay?â
â„ The âI Practice Conversations in the Mirrorâ Secret Before big moments, hard talks, or just answering the phone. They're rehearsing being okay. They're trying to be the version of themselves people expect. Thatâs not weaknessâitâs survival wrapped in performance art.
â„ The âI Fix Other Peopleâs Problems to Ignore My Ownâ Reflex Everyone calls them âstrong,â but no one notices how fast they redirect. âHow are you doing though?â they ask, one heartbeat after breaking down. Let your reader see how exhaustion wears a smile.
â„ The âI Never Miss A Birthdayâ Rule Even for people who forgot theirs. Even for exes. Itâs not about being rememberedâitâs about being someone who remembers. Thatâs character.
â„ The âI Clean When I Feel Powerlessâ Mechanism That sparkling sink? Not about hygiene. Thatâs grief control. Thatâs despair in a Clorox wipe. Let it speak volumes in the silence of a spotless room.
â„ The âI Pretend I Donât Need Helpâ Lie They say, âIâm fineâ like itâs a full stop. But their hands shake when they think no oneâs looking. Let your other characters notice. Let someone care, even when they donât ask for it.
â„ The âI Watch People When Theyâre Not Watching Meâ Curiosity Not in a creepy way. In a poetâs way. In a âwho are you when no oneâs clappingâ way. They love the in-between moments: laughter in elevators, fidgeting before speeches. That's who they areâobservers, not performers.
I reblogged this yesterday, but I want to reblog it again. Diabetic ketoacidosis turns your blood acidic and will essentially burn you from the inside out.
The stories you hear of people dying from rationing, this is what happens to their body.
Affordable insulin isnât just a right, itâs a necessity.
No one should have to die like that when itâs preventable with access to proper medication.
