Hi! Sorry to bother you, I was just wondering if you have any tips for starting to work with tarot reading? Like what kind of deck for a novice, beginners tips, good info sources?
it’s no bother at all! ✨ as with anything you’re looking to learn, i like to say that the first key thing is research. here are a few simple tarot learning sources:
golden thread tarot app - both apple and android
galaxy tarot app - android
list of tarot books - you might be able to find some as free pdfs, but even paid for they’re worth it!
here are some tips on what questions to ask and what to avoid!
here are some ways to read reversed cards (more advanced than a beginner, mind you!
here are some good three card spreads!
here is how to calculate your tarot birth cards!
a good beginner deck would definitely be the rider waite deck, as the meanings of this deck correspond easily to many of the tarot information found online.
golden thread tarot deck might also be a good one, since this corresponds to the learning app previously mentioned!
the wild unknown deck is the first physical deck i started with, after regularly using the galaxy tarot app. this comes with its own guidebook, but there are a few cards in each suit that differ from the general rider waite deck.
what to do when you get a new deck:
cleanse it! the best ways to cleanse a new deck are shuffling (with cleansing intent), crystal cleansing, smoke cleansing, sound cleansing, natural light cleansing (leaving it in the sunlight or moonlight for a few hours), or fresh air cleansing (leave it on an open windowsill).
meditate! meditating on a deck is a wonderful way for you to start bonding with your cards. this can be done on individual cards or the entire deck at once. continue to meditate on your deck every so often as you use it to give you better insight on the cards meanings.
interact with it! sleep with the deck under or beside your pillow every night, take it with you when you go on a walk to the park, bring it on vacation, take it to work (but don’t avoid work to do tarot). as the deck gets used to you and your daily schedule, your energies will better coincide, and readings will become easier and more personal.
i hope this gave a little bit of insight on where to get started! tarot is a lengthy learning experience, but it is so worth it. enjoy your new deck once you get it! feel free to ask me any more questions if you have them!! ✨
