The Archies (Bollywood, 2023)

So, it wasn't as bad as I thought. In fact, I enjoyed it.

First things first, I went into this with low expectations. Also, Act 1 already told me the kind of vibes this movie had. It felt like the movie sequel of a family-friendly sitcom, y'know, like when Lizzie McGuire ended and they had that movie where Lizzie had a popstar lookalike and then sang on stage. It felt like that. The Archies (2023) felt like the movie sequel to a wholesome teen TV show.

And because of that, I guess I was more forgiving of the acting. Suhana Khan looks so much like her father that my mind needed to recalibrate every time she smiled.

I didn't expect they would go that way with Dilton/Dilly. It made me appreciate his and Reggie's dynamic. The movie tried to include a lot of teenage themes, together with the saving-our-town plot. It's very very old-school.

What carried the movie, though? Production design! The set! And the songs! I really enjoyed the music and the choreo. I'm also a sucker for the outfits.

I'm not gonna comment on the nepotism and the confusing cultural themes because so many people have already talked about it. I'm also not in a position to keep talking about it, LOL. It has many fun moments. You'll enjoy yourself if you're not too critical about the pacing, the script, and the themes.

I just watched War 2 today. Okay, I get that for many, War (2019), and I agree you can't top Tiger Shroff looking like he was in love with Hrithik Roshan in every frame. But War 2 was still fun, and Jr NTR did very well for his Hindi movie debut. Also, having Rhagu in the Spy universe opens up so many possibilities with where they can take the story.

My favorite scenes were Hrithik offing Luthra (his emotions were so on point), the Italy transition from past to present, actually the entire Italy flashback 15 years ago because what do you mean we see a woman proposing to her man with a specially made ring just for him??? That was so awesome! And I love their dialogue in that scene. So good!

Also, Kaboo and Rhagu tag-teaming the other Kali members around the world was so badass! Hrithik in a suit, gun in his hand, toothpick between his teeth.... Oh, he knew he was killing the look!

All in all, a generally fun movie with good characters.

Anyway, watched Rang de Basanti again today and the feelings came flooding back. I cried twice 😭 just letting all my frustrations out.
