I think what ppl without misophonia don't get, even if they know about the disorder, is that trigger sounds set off your fight or fight response. like I think people just think it's like, simply not liking certain sounds. like I feel legit dread when someone grabs food to start eating, when I'm triggered i feel a legit like,,,, primal urge to get the fuck out of there like I'm being chased by a sabre tooth tiger. I feel so so much panic when my headphones die or won't connect. being triggered makes me feel "trapped" kinda too. a lot of ppl w misophonia (me included) also dissociate or struggle a lot w like,,, intrusive thoughts too, and the guilt which comes with that!!

and it's not "rational". sometimes I just randomly get new triggers. or some ppl trigger me more than others. or sometimes for me at least, trigger sounds affect me wayyyy less when I feel in control of the sound/situation or able to leave/stop it, if that makes sense

so it's not just disliking sounds!!! and people dismissively going "oh but nobody likes chewing!!!" etc drives me insane. my brain is just wired to treat certain sounds as a life or death situation
