pride on tumblr is so fun!!!11!!! the heart turns into a rainbow when you hit the like button 😆😆😆 the tumblr staff and algorithm continues to be exceedingly transphobic and especially transmisogynistic. trans women are getting banned left and right for merely existing. please don’t let another version of rainbow capitalism distract you
tumblr is such a queer friendly platform! every month is pride month on tumblr! 🤣 hey remember when matt mullenweg stalked and harassed a trans woman including offsite and then had a little crybaby blowup when he was rightfully criticised for it. transfems (or anyone assumed/perceived to be) are having their accounts terminated and their posts marked as mature for little reason with very rare response or reinstatement from staff. trans communities (including ftmblr for a while, but a lot of transfem communities especially) are having their shit marked as mature. staff continues to do nothing about the constant spamming of all trans tags. trans people of all kinds are having photos of their bodies censored and marked as mature, with many trans women even fully clothed in photos they're flagged in. do not slink into the "well at least it's not twitter" mindset. this shit is DIRE
one does not realize the extent of their dysphoria until they have been to lay in the rain and remembered that this form is simply a container for sensations.
i have been myself, in my many shapes, and i will be again. but for now i am held within this vessel to experience things that i ordinarily cannot, both joyous and wretched.
Your homework for the day: find something about your current form that you like. Speak positively about it. Be kind. Maybe you've got long eyelashes or a cool scar. Maybe you have dark eyes or a nice smile. There's something. It may not be you, but it's yours. Treat what's yours with love, kindness, and respect.
Rolling submissions for ANIMAL are now live. Check out our submission guidelines on our website, or read more below.
We accept all genres of writing and all mediums of visual art created by individuals who identify with or as an animal in any capacity. Submissions need not be explicitly concerned with furry&alterhuman content alone, though such works are encouraged.
ANIMAL accepts:
Poetry: Up to five pages in a 12-point font, single spaced. If submitting multiple poems, the start of each poem should appear on a new page. Submit one file per submission with all poems in the same document.
Fiction: Short stories and flash fiction, with a maximum of 5,000 words. One story per submission.
Nonfiction: Creative nonfiction and essays, personal or academic. Maximum of 5,000 words, one piece per submission. We ask that academic essays be accompanied by a bibliography.
Visual art: Photography, collage, painting, digital illustration, and any medium/s that are able to be scanned or photographed to be submitted as a JPEG or similar format, such as a PNG or TIF file. Up to five pieces may be included in one submission.
Comics: Comics may be in black and white or colour and should be submitted as PDFs. Due to the form’s complexity, we accept a broad range of image-text approaches at a maximum of three pages per submission.
Articles, reviews, recommendations, and adjacent material: ANIMAL will publish short features of up to 1,000 words on a rolling basis, independent of any themed issue. Such features might be media reviews, a curated reading list, or a recipe. Email [email protected] with “feature” in the subject line to ensure we see your piece.
We do not accept AI-generated or AI-assisted works.
We ask that all poetry and prose submissions be formatted single spaced with a 12-point font. Authors intentionally using creative fonts and formats are encouraged to make a note of it in their submission. All submissions should be emailed to [email protected] as an attached file. Please indicate the category of your submission in the subject line. A cover letter is not required, but please provide a short third-person bio to accompany your work, including a name to attribute the piece to. We post on our Instagram and Tumblr when a new piece has been published; if you would like us to tag you in the description, please let us know.
ANIMAL does not accept work that has been previously curated, in print or online. Works may be previously self-published on social media, but may not have been published in books, magazines, or similar collections open to the public. If your piece is accepted, we ask that ANIMAL have first serial rights and non-exclusive digital rights. This means that we are granted the rights to be the first publication to publish your piece and that we may display your piece on our website indefinitely. Copyright will remain with you.
After we publish, you are free to submit your work to other publications, though we ask that ANIMAL be credited in subsequent reprints.
In the interest of accessibility, ANIMAL is free to submit to and read. Although we would love to compensate our contributors for their work, our small crew works fully on a volunteer basis and cannot currently pay for submissions. This is a passion project for us, and our hope is that as interest in the magazine grows we will be able to adopt a model that would allow us to compensate our artists and writers while still hosting free submissions.
Feel free to send us an ask or email us with any questions regarding submissions. We aim for a submission response time of two weeks, but we are a small crew. Feel free to reach out to us at [email protected] if we haven’t gotten back to you after a month.
this may sound silly---but--where do you find your horse pictures❓
I assume 📍, maybe I'm just not gifted at the act of searching the 🕸️. . . or your a keyword master.
I suppose your also just good at picking them. your choices of blue roans with wind tossed hair reflect your identity. . . maybe your just that cool of a horse❗they always make me feel something.
This ask feels pointless. . . bring back Tumblr ask culture, I suppose.
AGHHH this is very kind of you!! and not silly or pointless at all!!! and i VERY much agree that ask culture should be brought back
to answer your question, i use pinterest! i search for whatever breed or coat color i want, and i save my favorites to a board/my photos! pinterest has so many cool photos that are rly aesthetically pleasing, i find google to be more surface-level stuff and licensed photos :P
you sound cool too anon, have a lovely timezone!!!
((i dont own any of the photos so feel free to save and use them!! here’s some from my camera roll that i particularly like ^__^ ))
To anyone who thinks they might be losing a therio/kintype because its not fun anymore, think about your average human person. They aren't overjoyed to be human. That isn't something they even think about. You might have just gotten over the initial novelty of the experience, but that doesn't mean the experience isn't still with you. Try connecting more to the things you CAN feel, good or bad.
This is directed towards younger therians/otherkin mostly, but could be for everyone
The dissolution of the early forums and websites this community used to gather on means that a lot of history and culture has been lost. "Library of Alexandria" amounts of lost history. For this reason, you have to write. I don't care if you don't think you're a good writer. And for this reason, you must create art, whether that means paintings, picrews, poetry, or flash fiction. It doesn't matter if you're not a "good" artist.
And not only must we create - we must add to the archive. The alterhuman archive is alive and kicking, and I highly suggest we add our creative works to the mix.
We are in danger of being forgotten. We cannot let that happen.
There's a lot of carnivores there, isn't it? As a hare myself, I wonder how many of us herbivores are here, being somehow active in the community.
If you have 2+ theriotypes, answer with what is your main / stronger theriotype right now, in the moment.
For adults only please, I want data from my fellow adults. And care to reblog for reach?
You're a..?
Carnivore 🍖🥩
Omnivore 🍗🍏
Herbivore 🌿🌾
Remaining time: 4 days 2 hours
My twisted self-esteem quietly hints to me that there are more open-and-proud carnivores because very few want to be proud of being what is considered prey, and therefore those with pronounced herbivore theriotypes often sit in the closet. Even orthohumans (most of the time) answer the "what animal would you be" question with some cool carnivore.
I'm embarrassed that I'm a hare, it takes a stupidly long time accepting it. Not even a stronger herbivore that can defend itself, like those with mighty horns and hooves. A hare, a creature every carnivore wants to chase down and eat. So, yea.
