"What's.. what's going on with her hair?" Sam asked, gesturing towards Grace's direction who's playing with her dolls at the living room.
"Socks." Dean answered, as if that was supposed to clarify everything.
When Dean realized Sam is still sporting his confused face, he added enthusiastically, "Sock curls, Sam. They're called sock curls. Kid said she wanna wear her hair in curls for school tomorrow and I said why the hell not? So I looked up some techniques on how to do that without using heat because y'know, she's way too young to get her hair damaged from that. Then I came across the so-called 'heatless curls' technique and learned that you can actually use socks to do it. Et voila. Nice, isn't it?" He rambled, looking proud of his work.
"You. You actually did research." Sam said in disbelief.
"What do you mean? I do research."
"Yeah, sometimes... but you despise doing it."
"She's really got you wrapped around her finger huh?"
He just smiled and nodded in response. Of course. That's his daughter. He would give her the world if he can.
"Well, the socks are clean though right?" Sam asked, looking worried.
"Of course Sam! It's not like I'd put dirty socks on my precious daughter's hair! What? Do you think, I'm insane?"
Cas arrived not long after, carrying few bags of takeout in his hands.
"Here. I got 'em," and starts unpacking it on the table.
Tiny pitter patters of feet were then heard as Grace approached the dining room.
"Dada, you're back!" She yelled in excitement as she approached Cas.
"Hello Grace," he said as he crouched down to welcome her in his arms and hugged her.
He then saw her hair and looked confused. He looked at Sam who only shook his head, as if saying 'I don't have anything to do with that,' and then at Dean but before he could even speak to ask, Dean already spoke:
"Sock curls," proudly with a smug, even wiggling his eyebrows up and down.
Fortunately, Cas didn't need to ask more as Grace spoke and told him everything he needed to know about what's happening on her head.
"I asked Daddy if I can wear my hair in curls tomorrow. And he did this!" She said as she points her tiny finger at her head. "He said, I'll go to sleep with this on, and then tomorrow morning I'm gonna have curls already!"
"Well, that's really nice. I'm looking forward to see your curls tomorrow. I'm sure it'll look beautiful." He responded fondly. He looked at Dean and saw him smiling, clearly proud of his doing. Cas simply responded with a sigh of indulgence.
"Do we have pie, Dada?" Grace then asked enthusiastically.
"Yes in fact we do." Cas answered, as he reached for the other plastic bag he brought home, bringing two pies out of it.
Dean beamed at the sight and bee-lined towards the dinner table with excitement.
"Uh-uh!" Cas held up his hand to stop the two from reaching out for the pie. "You two have to eat dinner first. Pie is for dessert."
"What do you mean? Pie can be dinner." Dean argued.
"We can have pie for dinner?" Grace asked excitedly.
"Dean-" Cas said sternly with his deep voice to which stopped Dean from further arguing, swallowing his next words instead.
"Okay, okay." he answered, holding his hands up in defeat.
Cas then turned to their daughter, "And no, Grace. Remember? Proper meal first."
"Okay," Grace answered, nodding her tiny head, but with a pout, to which Cas always found adorable. She's really just like her other father, Dean. Sulky. They're lucky he finds them cute even so.
Sam stood there watching all of them fondly as Eileen came up to him from behind, hugging him. They ended up giggling together at the sight of the silly family of three.
