hi i’m not sending this ask out of malice, i just wanted to inform you after seeing your post asking how character ai is bad. you seem to know ai generated art is bad, but ai generated text steals in the exact same way. character ai plagiarises from writers and very often from fanfiction writers, similarly to how ai generated images steal from artists. these writers spend a lot of time on their work and absolutely deserve way better than having it stolen in this way. also, all ai generation takes an extreme amount of power to make happen which in turn wastes energy and water and is terrible for the environment. it’s up to you to decide what you do with this information but considering you seemed to genuinely not know, i wanted to share. i used to use character ai a couple years ago when i wasn’t aware of any of this so i’m not just trying to make you feel guilty for not knowing, but just think about whether it’s really worth it

Thank you for informing me about this. I actually had no idea that this was happening. I used to write fanfics about characters, but I didn’t know that Character AI was taking from these wonderful creators.

Every time someone opens the website for Character AI. 0.66g of CO2 is produced. While ChatGPT produces 2.5 to 5 g of CO2 ! 😨. I wonder if it’s the same when you use the app for Character AI, and not the website?

But also keep in mind that every social media produces CO2. Social media produces about 60kgCO2e per year. So even if people don’t use Character AI, that sum of CO2 won’t go down.

I can’t find the message of this, but dude. I understand that some forms of AI is bad. But Character AI? An app where you talk to your favourite characters? How in the world is that shitty, it isn’t even problematic. Now AI that makes art is a whole other thing. That is stealing away from actually people who take time out of their days to make these wonderful pieces of art. I understand you wanted to voice your opinions, but honestly look at what a I am doing before you say stuff like this thank you. Have a great day or night ❤️
