This is a website supported by Kevin Bieksa and the Vancouver Canucks to help identify the early signs of mental health issues.
It addresses the need to talk about mental disorders in a straight-forward way because people are continuously stigmatized by having an illness. Even though 1 in 5 Canadians will suffer from some form of mental illness in their lifetime.
Either for individuals themselves who want help, or for concerned friends, this is an invaluable source to spot the warning signs of illnesses like depression, anxiety and body image issues. They created this because sometimes you don't know when you need help before it's too late.
Bottom line is that it really is a great way to increase awareness about mental disorders in a way that doesn't put it in a bad light and gives those who might be struggling a positive source for help. Be sure to check it out.

Community Project Update
We have touched base with the mall to set a date for our booth, and are now just waiting for their reply. Our crime awareness brochure turned out brilliantly and we just have to get a banner made up with our logo. Shouldn't be long now.

It's so fitting that there are fireworks going on in the background as I write this. Such an incredible woman in everything she has done. Most definitely a personal highlight in my life, and look, she even knows me on a first name basis!

The first chapter
Well here I am doing something I never thought I would. This is the first of what will be a series of updates for my involvement in community policing tasks. I`ll start off by saying that I currently have the privilege of undertaking two separate projects. One of them being, with a group of fellow students, about creating more awareness to the public about common types of crime and how to reduce the risk of falling victim to such crimes. We have had a good start with this already in organizing pamphlets that will highlight key strategies for people to consider. My next update should include the location this will take place.
The other project I am involved in is a program headed by the local RCMP and the city of Kamloops. It is a traffic safety program designed to increase the awareness of pedestrian safety for all children in elementary schools of the city. From what I know already I believe that this will be of great importance in increasing children`s level of traffic smarts and influence them in acting safer when near any areas where there is traffic. My participation in this will be shared with another student, and together we will be bringing this to life with power point to be used in classroom instruction.
I am eager to see how these both turn out and hope they have as positive of an affect on the community as I think they will.
