I haven't talked about Bondrewd in a hot minute because I've been distracted, and that's a problem. Honestly if there is one major pet peeve I've come across with this fandom is the constant picking apart of his character to make him straight evil. Which is a shame considering how much the creator builds him up to be not that at all.

What makes Bondrewd such a fantastic character that makes me go feral is that his selflessness is written to be horrifying. He's sacrficied himself so he's nothing more than a whistle and a soul infecting others. The level he lives at is a isolated dead winter, where the only living things are in the water bellow him. The man cares for the people around him, but he uses them. He loves the children he takes in, but that doesn't stop him from progressing.

And that is what makes him so freaking scary. He can love and care, but he doesn't think twice about using people. In fact he figured out a way to make love happen, for his own benefit! And it's real actual love, not fake or empty. He's not crazy, if he was nothing would work. All to make the abyss easier to travel.

The ends justify the means to the extreme is what Bondrwed is. And it's clear he was like this before he started exploring the abyss with his criminal records. And out of anyone we've seen so far he's probably the only person who truly ever respects the abyss as much as one should.

To say he has zero emotions, or doesn't actually love the children just takes that that depth away. I really don't get why people struggle with this aspect of Bondrewd. It's what makes him such an amazing character.
