I see some of you guys are a little confused by TJ’s “sudden” exit, so I thought it would be helpful to tell you about that periscope video he posted two years ago. I don’t remember what exactly he was telling in that video, it was so long ago after all, but here’s an extract from a message someone sent me right after he’d periscoped where they describe it to me. “I didn’t know this, but apparently it’s something he’s talked about in podcasts before: he has (had?) something called an AVM in his brain - in the video he shows the scar on his head from neurosurgery a few years ago. He talks about not expecting to be alive in five years, wanting to make the most of the time he has left, leaving enough money behind for his wife: he seems really depressed, and mentions “bad energy” on the SV set (he singles out Alec Berg), and (I think) implies he wants to quit before they fire him. The top-voted comment on reddit about it dismisses it as him being drunk and not being serious. I don’t know, it looks pretty genuine to me, and the part about having needed brain surgery is definitely true. I guess we’ll see if there’s an announcement about him leaving or if he’s written out during s3.” It was October 2015. So I guess, it was going to happen sooner or later.
