I work with kids and sometimes we have to do safety lessons with them about like, not telling strangers on the internet your home address or something. And sometimes the kids wont understand why, so you have to impart upon them that, well, some adults want to hurt children. And thats kind of difficult to do, because you have to beat around the bush, both because you dont want to scare them (while still making them understand how serious it is) and because you might lose your job if you explain it too straight forward.
Luckily, for some reason, the villain of one of the most popular franchises with children for the last 10 years happens to be a serial child murderer. So when a kid asks why they shouldnt trust strangers, instead of hand wringing and humhawing my answer out, I can just say "we dont always know when a strange adult has good intentions with children, or when they are William Afton."
you don't choose your favourite ship, it grabs you by the throat and chokes you and then leaves you with bruises on your neck and you're like "what the fuck"
I admit... I laughed lmao. I love Black joy. So I'm sharing it here.
my parents never came to anything I did.
I have so many memories about this, but one in particular: when I was away at camp with 89 other teenagers, and at the one-month mark the post was collected distributed to all the dorms. 89 other children tore open their boxes and, shovelling handfuls of sweets their parents had sent them into their mouths, read pages-long letters and handed around photos of their brothers and sisters.
I didn't. I didn't get anything, I sat on my empty bed watching them. The teachers had to call my parents and ask if perhaps the post had gone missing...? but my parents were surprised they were required to interact with me while I was away.
Well, today, my 3-year-old daughter had a fun-run. The childcare centre invited parents to come but stressed that if we weren't able to, it was alright. There was no fucking way I wasn't going. My daughter wasn't going to be the only child there without a parent watching.
I got time off work and stood there in the beating sun and plastered in greasy sunscreen waiting to see my little girl emerge from inside the centre and stand on the track.
When she did, her little eyes searched through the crowd person-by-person for me, and absolutely lit up like the sun when she spotted me.
Mine filled with tears as I waved at her and cheered.
I'm breaking the cycle.
its been 6 months and im still not over this. easily best and most hilarious play in baseball history
i feel like we've completely killed the ability to just gently tell someone when they're wrong or that their opinions don't pass the vibe check. we have to accommodate every single type of person and all their dogshit opinions OR we have to drive them off the internet, no in between
like you should be able to tell someone hey i think this belief you hold is harmful and i kindly ask you to reconsider your position or something instead of being like well you're toxic and everyone should dogpile you until you die or just being like welllllll it's not my business teehee they can perpetuate whatever they want
conversely i think we've also killed the ability to accept this kind of gentle criticism lol people just run to hide behind their identities .. im literally neurodivergent and a minor
Like if the field of psychiatry was in any way apolitical and objective the gender/race discrepancies in who gets diagnosed with what definitely wouldn't look like they do
It is not a coincidence when the white boy is more likely to get diagnosed with autism or ADHD and the white girl is more likely to get diagnosed with anxiety and BPD and the black kids are more likely to get diagnosed with ODD and schizophrenia and it definitely isn't harmless objective science...
