Update
Okay, so I know I haven’t been on tumblr in months so it’s probably fair I update you all on whatever is going on generally as I’ve not kept many close friends here up to date.
It’s not really news that 2014 was a distiller of a year for me on a lot of levels. 2015 has shown to be a massive improvement. I met someone in January who I am still with today and the future does appear to be bright with this one. Things just seems to click and we’re on the same wavelength in every single way possible.
I don’t want to gush too much, but I do find him very inspirational (for several reasons and long stories) and he seems to bring out the nicer, more caring and less vindictive side of me.
On the Eurovision side of things, in March I went to the Eurovision Greatest Hits filming. It was a fantastic experience, getting up with old ESC friends and finally getting to meet others. All the artists were excellent and so humble. I was especially impressed by Dima Bilan (Russia) and Nicole (Germany).
In regards to 2015, my favourite going into the contest was Italy but I am also happy for Sweden’s win. Usually i support Sweden and if it was for Grande Amore I probably would have backed Sweden. Despite the clash in results, I still support the 50/50 jury and vote system. The way ESC fans have reacted to this years contest (as usual) is somewhat overdramatic, childish and pathetic. The jury is there for a reason, as is the televote. Sweden, Russia and Italy very deservedly ended up in the top 3 and Sweden’s victory over Italy’s does do a lot better to served the contests future and commercial success.
Going back to Russia, I do think it is an extreme overreaction and disgrace to boo a singer who is trying to perform (extremely well) for you. Polina was not representing Putin, she was representing Russia. Despite the concerns going on in that country, the people, generally, are good people and the majority of Russian participants in Russia HAVE spoken in support of LGBTQ causes, so really, these people are essentially booing their own which is a tad bit stupid.
Junior Eurovision is coming up in November and I could not be more excited for the debut of Ireland in the contest. Even better, the song will even be sung in the Irish language! I’m hoping that Australia do take up the invite to participate and i also hope that Australia continues to compete in the regular contest. Probably not a popular opinion, but Australia have very close ties to our continent and have continued to support the contest since the eighties. It might also remind the rest of Europe that this is actually a contest and that everyone really needs to understand what competing means. Sometimes I wonder why some countries even bother paying the submission fee if they can’t be bothered to bring the goods.
Back to me personally, I will be taking up my Teacher training from September. It will be an extremely stressful yet rewarding year. I’m very excited to move closer to the career I want to take on and hope that I can bring cultural theories into the curriculum.
