I think that it's really more or less impossible to actually analyze Orochimaru just because there's so little real backstory to them. We never get any real reasoning for their entire.... thing.... other than some vague references.

You could take them as an example of Konoha's corruption. You could take them as an example of Danzō's manipulation. You could take them as an example of Madara's influence. Etc. Etc. Etc.

But you don't ever really get to know much about them. And I think that's really interesting, but at the same time I'm not sure if that's a deliberate choice or just accident, and I think that does make a significant difference.

That's why I like to analyze in regards to their relationships, and I think it's really interesting that that's really the most impactful aspect to them: the way they affect other people, not them themselves.

This is something I've put in my fics but I think the reason why the Sannin were never going to be able to stay together forever is because none of them were ever going to compromise on their beliefs. Orochimaru was always going to do what they had to to stay alive and Tsunade and Jiraiya were always going to put the village first.

Because there's this expectation, at the core of the village system itself, that they'll always place the village first. Above their teammates and friends, above their family, above their lives. And Orochimaru was never going to do that. Was never willing to.

I'm obsessed with the way the Sannin are so constantly mentioned throughout the story. There are just these mentions of them scattered everywhere that you can't help but notice. They've made so much of a mark on the world and left such an influence.

Orochimaru is one of the best Naruto characters because it's like a choose your own adventure every time you think about them. You either choose to view them as a queer icon whose only crime (besides the atrocities) was serving cunt or you choose to rip your hair out analyzing and dissecting how upsetting they, their backstory, and their dynamics are
