Sigune Hamann - In the name of
DLI Museum & Durham Art Gallery Tuesday 17 September - 6.30pm - Free
Sigune Hamann will discuss the new work she has made for the exhibition In the Name of at DLI Museum and Durham Art Gallery, inspired by the Lindisfarne Gospels, with the exhibition's curator, Gill Hedley. The talk will be followed by the launch of a new limited edition diorama by Sigune Hamann in conjunction with The Multiple Store.
Admission to the talk is free.

You are cordially invited to a free preview of Durham Art Gallery's new exhibition 'In the Name Of' by Sigune Hamann on Friday 12 July at 6.00pm. The exhibition by Sigune Hamann is in response to the showing of the Lindisfarne Gospels at Durham Cathedral and the process of the manuscript’s creation.
'In the name of' will encompass work that relates to journeys and transitions and the way we experience and interpret them. The exhibition of photographs and videos will include a 56 metre panoramic photograph taken at a street demonstration and a new series of portraits of pedestrians with the inscription 'In the name of' as posters and billboards installed in Durham City.
Sigune Hamann is an artist who deals with still and moving images. In photographs, videos, installations and online environments she explores the effects time and perception have on the construction of mental images. Her projects operate in the space between the still and the moving image: she experiments with images created through movement and explores narrative structures through panoramic film-strips.
Visitors with a ticket to the Lindisfarne Gospels Exhibition will receive free entry to this exhibition.
Retraced: St Cuthbert's Final Journey
Photography Exhibition, Millennium Place, Durham. Preview: 27th June 5-8pm
Exhibition: 28th June till 3rd August 2013 (open daily from 10am-5pm) When the Vikings descended on Northumberland in the 9th century the Community of St Cuthbert were forced to flee their sacred and holy island. They gathered up their most precious belongings; the body of St Cuthbert, the head of St Oswald, the bones of St Aidan and the Lindisfarne Gospels, and set on a momentous journey that helped shape England. In April 2013, Richard W Hardwick, writer-in-residence for Durham University’s School of Applied Social Sciences, travelled with award winning photographer Paul Alexander Knox along the whole route. They visited the locations the Community of St Cuthbert took refuge in, recorded the landscape they journeyed over and told the stories of the people they met along the way.
