final protocol (better known as "ultima") used to be a lot creepier.

"because of her headgear, her mouth can’t close properly. this causes her speech to sound a little blunted. her voice synthesizer tries to correct her speech impediment but it ends up sounding overprocessed."

this was originally supposed to make her voice sound similar to "the prototype" from poppy playtime. i leaned into the unsettling and unnatural parts of her robotic body but this all scrapped later on since it didn't match my current vision for her character.

everything just kind of came together when i was designing her! if you guys remember when i originally posted those kyuten color samples, i was stuck between a lighter color palette and a dark color palette, and i’m relieved that i finally get repurpose that old palette i loved so much! it’s perfect since she’s a corrupted character copy of kyuten as well.

she’s already one of my favorite characters to draw and i love pairing her in art with kyuten since they’re mirror images of each other. i go into more detail about her design in my second sketch. stay tuned! 🩷💙

the first of a series of upcoming cyberia side stories called ↑ D1@L-UP: // D3NPA! ☆

the original title of the side story was called "ugliness" but was changed to capture the nuances of the content.

醜悪 (しゅうあく, shuuaku) is made of:

醜 (しゅう, shuu) = ugly, unsightly, shameful

悪 (あく, aku) = evil, bad, wicked

shuuaku is already a stronger word than "ugliness" also carrying shades of the following...

grotesque

vile

sordid

disgusting

reprehensible

the word "shuuaku" can be used to describe something visually repellant and morally corrupt behavior.

the word "shuuaku" was purposefully chosen to capture that dr. blaster is "ugly" in both body and soul.
