While admittedly, I haven't dug too deeply into a lot of them just because I didn't care much for a lot of the changes I heard about, the one that did catch my eye was Changeling: the Lost. While I love Changeling: the Dreaming in concept, in practice, there was a lot about it that was frustrating, even with changes made in C20. I love the major theme of fighting against the dying of dreams and wonder in a world that wants to turn your soul to grey logical sludge, but it felt like you didn't really have much chance to do that. Doing even weak Fairy Shit™ required hard-to-gather resources and a bunch of time to use it, and all the while, the whole universe is beating you over the head with Banality. It ended up in the same situation that OG Werewolf: the Apocalypse did for me - when the very nature of your story guarantees that you're going to fail and your fight is totally pointless, then why even play? Sure, they retconned the fact that all kithain were guaranteed to go banal at 30 unless they go Dauntain, but not even having the tiniest glimmer of "You may not see the fruits of your labors, but what you're doing Matters" is a surefire way to turn me off.

Meanwhile, Changeling: the Lost, in going immediately more horrific with its Fae by nature of taking them back to being as capricious and scary as their folkloric counterparts, empowers you a bit more from the jump. Yes, a lot of horrible shit had to happen to you to turn you into a Changeling, but you escaped Arcadia. Your life was taken from you - how will you take it back? Your old captors are coming for you - what're you gonna do about it? Can you find a way to put an end to a True Fae without completely losing yourself? It might not be probable, but it is possible, and that's what I like about it. You're not automatically doomed to either burn out or get sent back to Arcadia at some predetermined point because eeeeeeeh, life sucks, buster, deal with it. Terrible things can and will happen to you, but you might still be able to turn it around.

Honestly, if/when Changeling comes to 5th edition, while I hope they stick with the dreams vs banality angle of Dreaming, I really hope they keep that core of hope that Lost had and uses the basis of Scary-Ass True Fae to beef up the metaplot. Maybe those Fae that retreated to Arcadia became something alien during the Interregnum without the connection to the mortal world to balance them. After all, too much Glamour without Banality leads to Bedlam, right? So when the Resurgence occurs, and the Changelings reconnect to Arcadia, they find it changed, tainted, their former leaders distorted by endless Dreaming.

I dunno, Changeling's neat in both forms.
