I feel obligated to reblog this every time it shows up in my dash
No bragging, just 100% floored and grateful. Work hard, maintain a positive attitude, and believe that anything can happen.
So I reblogged this exactly a week ago because I thought it was funny and uh lo and behold, a family friend wrote me a big olā check just to help me out of a tough financial spot AND my bank refunded me $32 for fees theyād originally taken out. SO UH YEAH. Reblogging this again in hopes that it brings equally good fortune to my followers.
Sure why not? Jobs bring in money and prosperityā¦
āSo what can we learn from this study? On the data side, we see that everything is proceeding as planned. Nobodyās paying $50 for a burger at McDonaldās, or $16 for a can of tuna at Safeway. Employers wish their profits were higher, and workers are glad they got a raise, but they wish they made more money. Three years after Seattle started down the road to $15, everything is as it should be. Those apocalyptic claims of destruction and business closures havenāt been proven true. One thing the study didnāt explain was why the sky didnāt fall as promised. Why werenāt workers laid off in droves, or replaced with robots? Why didnāt prices skyrocket? Why does Seattle have more restaurants now than at any point in its history? Itās because those workers who saw a raise now have more money to spend in the city around them. Those restaurant workers are eating in more restaurants. Theyāre buying more groceries. Theyāre buying more clothes and cars. That increased consumer demand is creating jobs, and more than paying for the increased minimum wage. The $15 minimum wage established a positive feedback loop that created growth in Seattle by including more people in the economy. In other words, it worked exactly as intended.ā

Iām gonna leave this right here.
When you give consumers money, they spend it. When you give old, rich, white men money, they hoard it.

Do you ever think about how Jeff Bezos could feed literally more than a million food insecure people while losing an hourās wage but you have to tell yourself no when you want to buy a coffee but canāt because thatās all your rent money?
I do too
a society that allows people to starve when there is food has failed. like. thatās it.
People arguing with this saying,Ā āwhy do people deserve food for free???ā is honestly just further proof of the failure.Ā
No, weāre worried socialism will turn into Communism. Communism is where everyone else is left poor just on the soul idea that everyone is equal so no one getās anything and the 1 % get all the good shit because theyāre entitled little bastards who think theyāre owed the worl just for doing a revolution.. capitalism is earned..
Do you mean.. like capitalism.

āBut free healthcare has issues tooā yes, it does. And some of them are based on systematic sexism, racism and ableism and is a larger societal problem and not a unique result of āfreeā healthcare being shit.
And speaking from the point of view as a UK citizen, a lot of the issues with things like long wait times and lack of resources, stem from budget cuts and conservative moves to privatize the health sector for profit.
Which forces hospitals to run like a business rather than a public service, while still being funded like a public service, which forces cutting costs in places they really shouldnāt be cut.
Meanwhile, multi billion conglomerates are skipping out on paying taxes and living wages by having their banking in off shore accounts, and politicians get their āstatelyā manion houses fixed by tax payer money, and accept extortionate pay rises to the cost of taxpayers, while the rest of the UK is subsisting on food banks and searching for things like āhow to make a guillotineā to such a notable degree it briefly trended.
Itās almost like extreme austerity measures geared to make a profit, donāt work, and the issue with āfreeā health care isnāt the real issue, but rather the way politicians have been steadily trying to kill the NHS to make way for for profit healthcare models. Weird.
Not Yelling At Children is Better Than Yelling At Children, More At 11
Not to mention the fact that Mrs. White isnāt qualified to teach. She should be required to take a remedial English course. āI have wentā? please. Itās āI have goneā, Mrs. White.Ā
first, my kid would not sign anything without me seeing it first. 2nd, upon seeing it i would be at the superintendantās office the next morning. then we would speak to the teacher. black folk gotta nip it in the bud.
Dont let your children be controlled like this. I remember back when I was in school my mom always told me āif you really need to use the bathroom or attend to an emergency and the teacher wonāt let you, then just leave the classroom and Iāll deal with teacher and principleā
Mom had my back
If I was this kid I would use up those passes and then just fuckinā throw up or get a severe nosebleed in the classroom and then refuse to leave because āsorry, I canāt go to the nurse, I already used up my two passes for the fucking MONTHā
There was a student at my high school, who we will call John Doe, who actually did that. When teachers gave him a limited number of bathroom allowances (usually 3 per semester, which was the standard at my school), he would use them in the first week, and then induceĀ vomitting my eating rotten food he found around the school garbage cans. If teachers refused to let him go, he would just throw up on something they had to touch. Light switches, keyboards, whatever was available.
Instead of making admin do anything about this toxic policy, they just doubled down harder, to the extent that one girl politely informed a teacher that she felt like she might be about to have a seizure and could she go to the nurse,Ā please. She was denied, sat back down at her desk, and promptly passed out and concussed herself on the concrete floor when she fell.Ā
Another girl had severe vertigo-induced fainting, could not get a teacher to excuse her from a phys ed class, and fell off a monkey bars and split her head open, and nearly lost an eye because her glasses broke when she landed.
A student with, I believe, diabetes had a severe blood sugar drop and tried to eat a candy bar in a class with aĀ āno food or drinksā rule. The candy bar was taken away, and she had to be taken out by EMTs.Ā
This kind of human rights abuse in public schools is not new. I graduated a full decade ago.Ā
Iām glad itās being publically discussed again, (briefly around 2003-2005 this was also a popular subject of discussion). I hope that this time, concrete changes in policy are actually affected.

Really, just say Amazon.Ā
Cool Cat Hates Free Health Care
Cool Cat class traitor
Hot take: the massively anti-DIY-HRT position of mainstream Western trans communities is a sign of the massive privilege of being able to access trans-friendly health care, and people in that position should spend more time thinking about the fact that for many people, itāsĀ āDIY or nothing everā.
Absolutely. And take a minor step out of the most privileged trans communities, and youāll also find a LOOOOT of people in Europe and the US doing DIY-HRT because the health care systems in place leave a looooooooot of us stranded with no care, unaffordable care or endless waiting lists and abusive clinics.
SUPPORT DIY-HRT.
Worried about the risk? Well, stop fearmongering and start:
Organize skill-sharing for DIY-HRT
Organize funds for those that need to buy hormones
Organize safer access to hormones without a prescription
Organize medication tests, blood tests and bone scans through GPs and anonymous free clinics
Protest against gate-keeping
Increase the availability of safer HRT by any means necessary.
Just shut the fuck up with your fearmongering and support trans people doing what they need to survive.
http://transhealth.ucsf.edu/trans?page=guidelines-masculinizing-therapy a guide on how to perform masculinizing hormone therapy
http://transhealth.ucsf.edu/trans?page=guidelines-feminizing-therapy and a guide for feminizing hormones
the site also has lots of other info for both binary trans and GNC people
Also like, it sounds scary, and itās always good to be aware of things if you can, but literally people doing DIY often do the exact same things people going through a prescription and clinic do. Itās the same medications, same blood tests if you can get those done (which you donāt need to do terribly frequently once youāre set up). Itās nothing strange or scary.
