I got drafted! Viva!
#Freshmeat Tips:
Get low. No, get lower. Lower. If it seems like you just can’t get a skill, get lower and try. Or get some water, stretch, take a couple deep breaths, and then attack it again with the ferocity of 100 angry bears. When you get lower, you are more stable, harder to knock over, better able to knock the snot out of your beloved derb sisters, and kind of like a superhero.

I would call this an all the time tip. A few years in, and, as a pretty tall lady, I can never remind myself of this enough.
Some day I'll learn.
Someday I'll learn to stop expecting myself to be as good as people who have been skating for several years longer than I have. But is that day today?
When all my blockers start getting penalties
When I don’t have any friends at my new league...
derbynotes put together this awesome guide on the different derby rulesets! You’ll definitely want to check this out if you’re going to Rollercon this year!

Or even if you’re not going to RollerCon! (But why would you not do that?)
These are AWESOME
Have fun at RollerCon WITHOUT ME :’( :’( :’(

When I attempt to juggle work, life, and roller derby
I’m gonna get it one day guys!
When I forget to air out my gear bag
super stoked that my new league has cubbies at the warehouse for us to leave our gear there
Trying to keep a newbie in a four wall
I love derby and that’s not going to stop. As I get used to my new life I will try to continue to share all the awesome derby related stuff that I see, but right now I’m going nerd full bore. I moved for a job that has a one year contract which means I need to put all that I’ve got into my future career. As much as I wish that was going to be becoming a professional derby skater, that doesn’t seem likely, so a part of my league transfer has been accepting that it is also going to have to take a back seat for the moment. And honestly, I think the realization and acceptance of that is actually helping me adjust to my new league. Thank goodness because transfers are HARD!
Strong legs
Sorry I've been so absent for a few months. Moving and league transfer are HARD. I'm in my probation period with B.A.D. now and it's crazy challenging.
Nerdy derby has a PLEA! We need more referees for this home game! It's our season opener and apparently the busiest derby weekend ever in California. Please hit me up at [email protected] if you can do me this humongous favor. We love you we promise!
Just caught a write up about my game last weekend. Now I know it was not a long article and at least a few people were not even mentioned at all but damn, I got the MVP award at the end of the bout and the only mention I got was of the one single penalty I accrued. And I REALLY need to see the footage of that hit again because I'm still half convinced it was a bad call. So in my rational mind I know it doesn't matter what some dumb write up says But it just adds to something that was already going on. That is, feeling kinda confused this season a out what I'm trying to do in derby. I know if I want to be a more effective jammer I need to increase my endurance so I can go out more. Or should I just give up and go back to blocking so I can be more of a help to my team? Not that we have an overabundance of jammers either I just hate that I am only in every 4th jam when I wish I was out there helping. And not getting jamming work in at practice because I'm filling in the line with my blocker teammates, and then in the game I'm barely there to help them. It's like some sort of existential crisis or something. Oh well. 2 weeks until the next game. Going to try to get into a cross training routine now that I finally got moved into my apartment. Because all I can do on my own is keep trying to up my own game.
REMEMBERING A MISTAKE YOU MADE IN LAST WEEKEND’S BOUT.
