I have some TAZ Grad thoughts. So we know that someone in the school will probably be a traitor for Gray, but we don’t have a clear front runner (besides maybe Gary or Rainer). So I wanna call a theory now.....

What about Sabor? 

He’s in a useful position in the school as a librarian, he’s unsuspecting, and Justin made that joke about him being “promoted to a secondary character” and I just think that would make some killer accidental forshadowing

Sokka and Katara are PEAK sibling representation for many reasons, but one of those reasons is the fact that you literally cannot separate them as "the reasonable one" and "the dramatic hot mess". Like true siblings, they have to take turns with the braincell.

Sokka's getting whacked out on cactus juice and poor life choices? time for Katara to put on the Mom Friend Hat. Katara is impulsively stealing from pirates or starting another revolution? guess Sokka's gotta pull out the Dad Voice™. You never know which one of them is gonna do something completely wild next, but you can be sure the other one will be there on the sidelines, armed with exasperation and vicious mockery in spades.

relistening to the suffering game, thinking abt griffin’s multitude of plans

primary observations:

usually, when one of the boys says something not related to the story, he has the NPCs respond jokingly – i.e. “are you guys holograms?” “when we look this good, does it really matter? [vogues]”

griffin is ready to kill the boys at any time – in this arc, prominently displayed by “bad luck”

he literally uses “bad luck” to instakill magnus

for magnus, griffin has revealed he has a bunch of backup plans. he prepared an alternate ending for the eleventh hour, he planned for magnus to fight his way out of the astral plane with kravitz.

so, when he knows Rough Shit is coming up, griffin has a backup plan

more peripheral observations:

griffin also uses “bad luck” to fuck up the weakest member of the party, with no healing available in the foreseeable future

very early on, like part two, taako asks where he can sign up and griffin uses his serious, this-is-in-universe-and-not-a-digressive-goof voice

aka the voice i associate with the boys accidentally hitting a plot point or giving griffin an idea

taako got pretty fuckin close to death, and also lost a bunch off his max hp. if it weren’t for the second round of trust/forsake ending up so well for them (which was entirely up to real world luck, griffin didn’t deliberately go easy on them), he’d probably get killed

do…do you think griffin was gonna set up a way for taako to get lich-ified or something similar if he died? bc i can imagine griffin’s brain whirring with the possibilities of that delicious irony

maybe (although I’m pretty sure this is contradicted by Kravitz being able to sense liches), an early draft of Griffin’s plan for the arc would kill Taako, and reveal he was a lich the whole time? Like that would have foreshadowed that someone could be a lich the whole time, and not know it until they die (aka foreshadowing for lich Barry ). And maybe he was also meant to have turned into a lich with Lup and Barry. Like obviously that didn’t happen, and we got a beautiful couples moment for Lup and Barry, but it could have been an early version maybe

My infinity train season 4 theory protagonist

Okay, so I know that the future of Infinity Train is up in the air (support it on hbo max if you can!). But, assuming it does happen, I have a sort of out-there theory for who could be the next book protagonist. Most people think that it will be Hazel and Amelia, but I don’t think it will be. 

Why Not Hazel and Amelia?

The seasons have very loosely connected protags. This is sort of a hallmark of the show, because we can explore wider parts of the infinity train by following the stories of sort of unrelated people. Lake and Tulip crossed over briefly, but then their narratives were completely different, so we could explore new aspects of the world. Following Amelia and Hazel would essentially be a straight continuation of season 2, because Hazel and Grace’s story lines were so related.

I think it’s gonna be...... Lucy!

Lucy was a member of the Apex in season 3 of IT. She was one of the younger members of the group and strangely, very sympathetic towards the “nulls”. She still saw them as exotic pets, but that could be addressed as she grows and develops. 

Why Do I Think She’s Significant?

She is given a lot of character during season 2. Despite being what I would call a side-side character, she has some pretty complex emotions for a random child character.

Quotes from the wiki

“however Lucy expresses interest in keeping the light person. After Grace reminds Lucy of the Apex's position on denizens being "Nulls,"”

She needs to be reminded to see the denizens of the train as nulls, which is a pretty complex characterization we don’t see from any other the other characters (besides Grace and Simon) in the Apex.

“Simon confronts Grace with a broom while calling her a "Void," although she shows obvious discomfort at treating her former leader this way. She later witnesses Simon condemning Grace to be wheeled, but watches in horror when the two start to fight”

This moment is what really made me take notice of Lucy. She is given an awful lot of focus during the final climax of season 3, despite seemingly being a random side character. For a little bit, I thought she was going to be a Chekhov's Gun, and that maybe she’d accidentally push Simon off the train to save Grace, which nicely parallels her refusal to throw the light person to the wheels. But obviously that didn’t happen. But I think the significant tone given to Lucy still means something, and she will be more significant than expected. And, she nicely fits the theme of being loosely related to the prior season.

Meta-textual

While she is unusually significant in the show, she’s also unusually significant to the creators.

She was actually foreshadowed in season 2 when Grace tells Jesse to not point the train-hopping machine at his face

Her character design is actually based on a childhood photo of an IT writer.

She was going to be in the season 2 episode that introduced the Apex, but was cut for time. This suggests that the writers have had some plans for Lucy for a long time.

If you have any more evidence, or any disproving evidence, please let me know! I would love to hear everyone else’s theories.

(yes I know that the next season’s protag has so far only been introduced in the 7th episode of the last season, and episode 7 of season 3 did reintroduce Amelia, I can’t refute that lmao)
