It was exciting. The buzz, the adrenaline- All from a simple thing like a team up. Hana hadn’t been on many cross division missions. In fact, most jobs she did were directly under the Korean army’s request... But when she had heard about the infamous Overwatch being reformed-, How could she not answer the call? or at least the very least, check it out!?

She’d been shown around and given her station, the new base still in desperate need of a clean, but all in all it was far from terrible. Of course, she hadn’t really the opportunity to meet the people that resided there juuuust yet, but the zipping brunette that she had managed a glimpse of was a good indicator that they were at least around.

She knew about a few of them. The internet was less than subtle about who had publicly rejoined after all. But what she hadn’t expected was the woman she had been an avid fan of for quiet some time to be one of them... And she especially didn’t expect to ever see her sitting in the break room of a slowly reforming Watchpoint.

Mei Ling Zhou was someone she had admired for years. Someone who’s journals on her travels had left the gamer captivated and amazed, particularly at all the adventures and places the scientist had gotten to visit. 

Of course, now that she was able to travel herself, such places were open to her as well, but the excitement of reading about such things still lingered.

“Oh my gosh! You’re Mei Ling Zhou, right? The climatologist?”

Hana can barely contain the gasp of excitement in her voice, slightly starry eyed as she speaks.

Hana wouldn’t consider herself a narcissist. Competitive? Sure. A tad egotistic? Also true, but definitely not narcissistic. Her reputation was something she had built over time, online and offline. Her no mercy tactics and general skills and charm had earn’t her a large, international following and it was hard to find someone who didn’t know who she was.

Especially not since she became a pilot.

Of course, she hadn’t joined MEKA for the fame. She wanted to help her country, and there was no hesitation when she was asked to join. It was only recently, since the war had ended, that she had began to stream her battles and had garnered an even larger, and more boarder following.

Movies, promotional deals, Hana was a star. Even after joining up with Overwatch and its mission to bring peace against rising threats, her popularity had hardly diminished. Despite the bad publicity the organization had garnered.

Hana wasn’t a narcissist, but she had definitely grown accustomed to the spotlight, and the attention. So when she went out that day it wasn’t unusual to feel eyes on her person. She barely would’ve noticed, had it not been for the fact that it lingered far longer than normal, and carelessly tossing a look over her shoulder, she raises a brow at the blond staring straight at her.

Did he want an autograph or something?

        “Just because I have my visor on, doesn’t mean I can’t see you.” His raspy voice came with an odd hint of patience. He didn’t normally work with the Korean Army, but like any soldier, he went where his abilities and skill sets could be met. Here just so happen to be the place. He was enjoying himself, the fact he was being rather left well alone, kept only for consultation and recon, all except for this one little woman. Hana Song if he remembered correctly. 

         [ My Name is 76 ] His Korean was rather poor, but he had brushed up on a few words here and there to get by with the locals and other soldiers who didn’t speak english. [ Games. Do you play games so often? ] He slapped his magazine and stock back together on his rifle setting it aside. [ I’m sorry for poor words. Do you speak english? ] 

It probably wasn’t wise to tease an ally, even more so someone far older and more experienced than her. His korean wasn’t great, but it was at least understandable, and Hana can’t help the grin that twists its way across her face as she pulls the sucker from her mouth with a distinctive pop.

[ “76? That’s a funny name. Almost like a video game character!” ] 

The korean holds a playful tone, and she rests her chin on the back of her hand.

“I do speak English, yeah. You’re not bad though, but you could use some more practice.”

Twirling the sucker between her fingers, she taps it lightly against her lips before biting down on the candy, hard enough to shatter it between her teeth.

“You’re the soldier from America they hired to help out, right? That would explain why you’re asking about my game. Most people here are on the circuit, gaming is a ‘shared interest’.”

Planting the seeds of anxiety in the minds of those ‘heroes’ was easier than even this talon agent thought it’d be. Spread some rumors here, sprinkle some suspicious activity there….and they just lapped it all up. Overwatch in its reformative state was, perhaps, a touch more delicate than Sombra had predicted. Sending out their members and allies alone, in the open, like some sad attempt at recon….? It was all working too well. Though, when you were setting the strings up for your marionette….you couldn’t get too cocky. Not until that noose was ever so gently placed, inescapably, around their neck.

“Dios mío would you take a look at that? A little conejita without her big bad meka? Did they really send a celebrity out and about, hoping no one would recognize her? It’s almost cute how stupid that is!”

Now, she knew Overwatch never was very good at being secretive with it’s more…public face, and now that it’s darker branch had been disbanded, this became even more apparent. These people, those kids and all their optimistic dreams, it was clear they weren’t really ready to deal with what Talon had in store for them. Poor little things-….fun to play with though. They were lucky this was more of a pet project she put together herself, or else Amélie would have had a field day with these uncloaked fools.

Too bad! It looked like Sombra would get to play with this little bunny all by herself today. All it took was a well-placed translocator and she could sneak her way through to the girl. Maybe a threat or two would get her to spill her guts, or maybe……..playing with her head a bit first would be a more beneficial use of Sombra’s time…?

The cafe was dimly lit and rather scarce, the only real presence seemed to be her and the barista, which was enough to trigger a small alarm bell in the back of her mind. One she would ignore for now, as she gives the place a quick glance.

Nothing too fancy, pictures of various landmarks scattered the walls, and the soft smell of roasting coffee beans filled her head.

If it wasn’t for the fact that this was informed to be a front, the place could pass off as any small cafe with a decent income.

She half considered ordering a cup to try and blend in, but before she has the chance to do so, the barista seemed to have vanished out back. Not a good sign, and Hana could feel the back of her neck prick as the warning signs flashed.

Empty room, villain’s ground, it all screamed ‘trap’ like those false loot rooms she’d encountered so many times in her games. This was a set up and she’d played right into it.

Reaching for the intercom that sat against her headband, Hana feels for the switch that will allow her to communicate, to report back and inform headquarters of what exactly was going on. She wasn’t about to run, but taking this blindly without knowing exactly what she was up against wasn’t exactly a smart move.

The old soldier had always made the young woman raise her brow. Whether it was an act of being impressed or surprised depended entirely on the man’s actions, however, and recently it was more of the latter.

She couldn’t say he wasn’t impressive, anyone who could shoot a gun like that and land nearly every shot was bound to live up to the name ‘Soldier’.  But lately, Hana found herself noticing things about the man that made her wonder who exactly was under that mask.

He hardly ever talked about himself, who he was and what he did before. And honestly, it wasn’t often Hana found herself wanting to ask. But as she watched the man clean his weapon from across the room, she couldn’t help but stare, the compact game in her hand beeping idly as it sat on the pause screen.

Surely she’d be caught staring, sucker in her mouth and brown eyes locked onto his face in a frown. But she’s too caught up in trying to figure out what exactly went through his head to really notice.

Yet.

With the threat of Talon on the rise, Overwatch was not holding back it’s punches when it came to the brutal reality of the situation. 

How could they, with the world still suffering from the Omnic Crisis, attempts at peace were fragile, delicate, and could be disrupted by the simplest and smallest of things. Two steps out of line could throw everything off balance, and it seemed that was the intent Talon held.

Every action held consequences, every life taken pushed forth the fears of war once more.

But Hana was no stranger to a fight.

In fact, she had volunteered for this mission. One of her first since her recruitment, and a chance to prove that the youngest member was one of the strongest. Not that she was in this for the bragging rights.

Intel had said that Talon agents had been sighted trying to recruit high threat personal into their ranks, and the last thing Overwatch needed right now was to deal with even more risky people.

Of course, bursting into a recruitment drive in a MEKA would draw for more attention than it was worth. The heavy hitter would be on call if the need arose, but for now Hana was tasked simply with finding the agents and shutting them down.

Simple enough. The small cafe was too public for serious confrontations, anyways.
