❝ O’ course he straps me with someone else… ❞
MUMBLED COMPLAINTS LEFT the younger detective as he wandered about, placing a cigarette between his lips, letting it hang there as his brow furrowed. Koenma couldn’t send him on his own anywhere, could he? Had to keep an eye on him all the time. It was a pain to say the least. He would’ve much preferred Botan as company. At least she was a pretty face.
❝ A’ight, where we gotta be, chief? ❞
Yakumo’s crimson hues rested on the detective that would be accompanying him for their newest case, mouth nearly agape from the sight of him. Surely this had to be some kind of joke... Yakumo had always been dedicated and disciplined, yet this boy seemed to be the complete opposite judging by his attitude. It made no sense, though he did his best not to make snap judgments. If Koenma had chosen him as Spirit Detective, he had to show some kind of promise. Yakumo could certainly respect that, though he could only hope he could see the potential Koenma saw in the other male sooner than later.
“Y-You must be Yusuke... It’s nice to meet you. I’m Yakumo Nishimura, your new partner.” He gave a respectful bow and a quick nod in acknowledgement, though it was clear the other male was quick to skip the formalities. “Er... Well, it seems there’s supernatural activity of some sort rooted in the center of town. At certain times of night, a number of humans flock to the site, appearing to be in a trance-like state. Our task is to find out who is responsible for the occurrences and what they plan to do with these humans.”
Simple enough... Or so he hoped.
bingcbingo:
A SHADOWY FIGURE, the reaper puzzled on his words, then she froze, feeling her heart sink into the pits of her already churning stomach. That shadowy figure, it couldn’t be… Yakumo was defeated, Yusuke and the others confirmed as such. Or perhaps he was just weakened? She swallowed the lump of worry that had built in her throat before a reassuring smile appeared.
❝ Oh, it’s alright! Actually, if you aren’t too busy, would you might helping me look for something? You see, my uncle is working on reconstructing the building and I dropped his lunch off to him earlier but dropped an important ring of my families! I’m sure it’s here somewhere! ❞
A THINLY VEILED lie to get assistance in finding anything. Easier to have two sets of eyes looking and leave the premises as quickly as possible. She needed to report back to Koenma about the sighting.
“Hm? Oh, of course...” A warm smile graced his features, quickly nodding as he continued over to her side. Needless to say, the king easily saw through the reaper’s facade. He had no interest in silly trinkets, but he was well aware of just how easily a fragment of the power sphere could pass as jewelry of sorts.
‘Perfect...’ The king mused, following behind her and all the while keeping a watchful eye in hopes of finding any piece of the sphere, though he was certain using the reaper would only quicken the process. He would have to tread very carefully, swallow his pride and play the part of the gentleman long enough to win her trust. “It must be very special for you to come out here to search for it.” He slipped his hands into his pockets, gaze darting from stone to stone, hoping to catch glimpse of a glint of light-- Anything.
“What does this ring look like?”
timidplum·:
How dare he? Did he honestly not take the fact on how he was by nature-by heart… on it all? He knew all they lost. He knew it too well on the pain and suffering. He was devastated by the loss of their father but at the same time. He found it pointless to ever seek revenge. It was always a loosing battle if they went that way. ❝ You make it sound like I owe you my life… when all those years ago you decided to find me when I slipped out the palace walls to avoid the headache… just to find that headache of a brother you had just got hurt from a larger demon where he lost a leg and could bleed out. You only started to care once you learned why I even did something so foolish. But that doesn’t mean I share the views you do on this. I have my own views. ❞
Yet to hear him speak on the human he grew so attached to… he felt his blood nearly run cold in that split second. The words that followed.. had his stomach sink. It was true…. He was posing as a human only… What will happen when he learns of the truth? Would he hate him? Or would he accept him? He wouldn’t know unless the truth came to light. When he stopped hiding. With his brothers words he gave a slow nod. He made it clear alright but…
❝ I’m sorry we’re on opposing sides then… even if I’m despised in the end. If I get locked away or killed… I’m going to go on my own path and what I believe is best for me and those I hold dear. ❞ He looked to his brother, seeming to know well on his resolve now. ❝ I hope you learn before it’s too late…. that following father’s path will lead to the same FATE that befell him. I just hope…. you stop before you are killed. ❞
“Plum... I need you to understand. You are all I have left, and I refuse to lose you at the hands of these humans who have no real understanding of what we are, what we’re capable of...” He averted his gaze as a heavy sigh left his lips. “I know you believe I am obligated to care about you out of guilt for what happened in the past, but that isn’t true. You are my brother, through and through. I only wish to keep the bond between us strong, just as father would want.”
As Plum continued on, Yakumo fell silent, taken aback by his brother’s newfound strength. Perhaps that had been the one benefit to him living among the humans, though it was a shame he was taking his stance on the opposing side. His lips pursed into a thin line, his expression darkening before he finally took a slow step back. “Very well. If this is the path you choose, you leave me no choice but to take action if you try to stop me.” He paused a moment, taking a deep breath before he managed to steel himself. “I hope you’re happy with your choice, little brother.”

HAVING TO RETURN to such a place, it caused a knotted feeling in the spirit guide’s stomach. One of dread, pain, anguish, and in an odd way, relief. The struggle was over, the pain gone and the threat defeated. But the reason she was there was what brought fear back ; to search for any remaining pieces or fragments of the sphere that started the whole mess.
AMETHYST HUES GAZED upon the building that was still being reconstructed. In a way, she felt responsible for it’s ruin. Had she not harnessed the sphere within her body– no, had she not taken it inside her body, the world would be much worse off. A shudder ran up her spine as she entered the site.
CURIOSITY TOOK THE reaper as she stepped beyond the threshold, believing to have heard a voice from within. Could it have been a worker? She could have sworn she had come when construction had stopped for the day. Though her suspicions were soon proven only half right. But the appearance of the stranger caused her jump, raising a hand to her chest to calm the heart beating hard against her ribs.
❝ Goodness! You frightened me, sir! Are you here for something? ❞
As the Meikai King drew near, his gaze flickered back to the reaper. He subtly eyed her in scrutiny, hopeful that maybe she might’ve possessed at least one fragment of the sphere while searching the area. Much to his disappointment, he hadn’t sensed anything from her, not that his senses were too sharp in his current state. He hated his human disguise... He felt so terribly limited and more importantly, weak. That was precisely why he felt these pitiful creatures needed to be eradicated from the world. There was no place for them here-- Not when creatures of great power existed and were far more deserving to take their place.
“I’m terribly sorry, miss!” Yakumo bowed apologetically before he rose and brought a hand up to rub the back of his neck. “I was on my way home when I noticed something strange at the top of the building, or rather, what’s left of it... But I-I... It must’ve been my imagination.” He sheepishly glanced back up at her, cheeks reddening slightly. “I’m sorry. I must sound silly... Diverting from my walk home to investigate a strange, shadowy figure?” A soft chuckle left his lips, followed by a slight shrug of the shoulders. “Perhaps I just need some sleep.”

ϟ • “You shouldn’t waste your time trying to brag to me. I don’t care what you did to her but you know if that stupid Urameshi hears you, you’re going to have a very annoying fight on your hands and unfortunately I am no longer able to fight him myself. And besides people who brag too much are often more bark than their bite.”
The Meikai King stifled a gruff chuckle as he lazily cocked his head to the side. “I intend for the Urameshi boy to hear me. Him and I have unfinished business, and I plan to settle the score. Of course, you need not worry about my bragging as you call it. If you want to see true power, feel free to watch me destroy that stupid brat once and for all.”

ϟ • “When I said Keiko was pretty… I meant she was pretty for a human.”
“You mean that human woman trailing behind the detective? I'm afraid I didn't catch much of a glance of her, seeing how the smallest flex of my power sent the human tumbling down the steps of the spirit wave master's temple.”
[ @spiriitgun ]
Yakumo was admittedly apprehensive when Koenma had assigned him a case working with another detective. As far as he had known, he’d been the only one who had been properly trained to handle the kinds of cases that had been thrown his way, but he didn’t have too many complaints about having another addition to the team. After all, balancing school, work and detective cases was leaving him exhausted. He’d welcome the help if the two meshed well together. Two heads were better than one, weren’t they?
My very clumsy Spirit Detective Yakumo is very !!!! atm~
[ @bingcbingo ]
“...I will not resign myself to this pitiful fate. I fought too hard to claw my way out of exile. That miserable detective and his friends will not be the end of me.” Yakumo muttered to himself, crimson hues narrowing as he stood atop of the mess of rubble in the center of the city. The building that had once taken shape into his kingdom was nothing more than a pile of debris, and the remaining fragments of the power sphere were undoubtedly buried among the wreckage. If he could only find a single piece, perhaps he could harness enough energy to recreate the sphere...
It was an ambitious task, but the king had never strayed from taking whatever actions necessary to make his dream come to fruition. Most of his energy was being channeled towards recovering and maintaining a human disguise to avoid detection from Reikai, but in due time he would grow stronger. It was only a matter of time.
A soft sigh left his lips as he turned to return to the area where he woke after the battle had ended. Perhaps there would be a fragment left behind, one he had overlooked. “There has to be...” He whispered, drawing near until he heard the sound of footsteps and the crunch of gravel beneath one’s feet. Furrowing a brow, he turned and hid behind a slab of concrete, curiously looking from afar to see just who was approaching.
To his surprise, it was a familiar face. He remembered those eyes, burning with such intensity... It would’ve been most admirable if she hadn’t been another obstacle in his path. “The woman from Reikai...” He whispered softly, lips breaking into a twisted smile. Perhaps recreating the sphere would be much simpler than he thought. If he could seek the help from Reikai’s little detective force, he could obtain the sphere’s power and finally rid himself of the meddlesome group in one shot.
‘Fate continues to draw you to me, my dear... This time you won’t escape me.’
Yakumo clumsily stumbled forward to catch the ferry woman’s attention. He wasn’t well acquainted with what it meant to be human, but he’d lived long enough to learn to adapt to his surroundings fairly quickly.
“O-Oh!” He gulped, nervously taking a step towards her. “I’m sorry. I didn’t realize anyone else was here.”
