I swear I'm not abandoning "A Ratnik Is Never Alone" but I may have developed another plot idea and wrote like 8k of it oops.
Illuga's face was bone-white. He stared at the Traveler with a kind of pleading desperation, like he could have somehow misheard them.
"Flins was captured by Dottore," they repeated, their own expression tight with pain. "I'm sorry, it happened because he was protecting me."
Slowly, comprehension dawned on Illuga. He swayed, then grasped the railing nearby, slumping heavily against it. A low, weak laugh bubbled out of him.
"That's just like him," he croaked. "Always…Always putting others before himself."
"Illuga…" The Traveler started, but couldn't find the words to comfort him. All this, and so soon after Bjorn. "…I'm so sorry."
Illuga just shook his head. He stared out at Nasha Town. The streets were full of people preparing for evacuation. Many of them had their whole lives packed on their back, fleeing the calamity that had appeared in their home.
"Traveler," Illuga's voice shook, but he forced himself onward. "Tell me…truthfully. Is he, is it likely he's…"
"We don't think so," Traveler answered. "But we can't be sure."
Illuga winced, then closed his eyes. He dipped his head, then took a deep breath in, and out.
"…You have a plan to stop what's happening?" He asked. The Traveler nodded.
"It's the best chance we have."
"Alright." Illuga raised his head to look at the Traveler, and his eyes were full of a hard determination.
"We are sworn to protect Nod-Krai, and Flins is one of our own." Illuga set his jaw and nodded to them. "The Lightkeepers will support you."
