ENTP in a nutshell
1. Two birds in the bush - they often choose this option instead of just one. They are proficient in finding new opportunities and possibilities. What they have completed always seems to be far less important when compared to novelty - an inexhaustible amount of emerging perspectives. For example, empirical scientists who identify with this type tend to procrastinate with publishing the results of their research. Going unacknowledged usually does not faze the ENTP; they would much rather dwell on future endeavors, believing that the greatest discoveries are still ahead.
2. Recharge - They need to feel emotional enthusiasm and ardor, lest they fall victim to mental logical lethargy. Thus, the ENTP needs permanent sensory and emotional “recharge”. They’re usually unable to supply it themselves, so they heavily depend on their surroundings to accomplish this. If nobody feeds them with impressions and positive emotions, they may succumb to demotivation, effectively losing the ability to work, as well as their curious, childlike lust for life. To remedy this, they may begin to mix with a variety of friend groups or become active in social projects.
3. A (reluctant) leader - While this may go unbeknownst to the ENTP, they are, in fact, a good organizer because they are able to see potential possibilities in people and situations. They are not ones to pursue power for its own sake, however, preferring to be completely independent spirits. Therefore, if they are to wield power, they need substantial justification for it. Why must they be the one to assume this position? Is the situation dire and one that nobody else can deal with? When the ENTP takes power, they better analyze the needs of their subordinates and try to provide them with everything, only making the necessary demands on them.
INTP vs ENTP
This is something that’s been bothering me for a while, but I also think that a lot of my concerns may be due to stereotypes of ENTPs and aren’t function based. I’ve looked at several past entries about this topic and I know you’ve addressed it before - if you don’t want to do so now, I completely understand, but there are some specific questions I have regarding the ways I identify/clash with each type. […]
Long story short, I don’t have the fast talking thoughtlessness a lot of ENTPs have. I do bounce ideas off people and I like speculation, but I don’t talk just to hear the sound of my own voice. I ask a lot of questions, but it’s always with purpose. I want to know what people think and why they think it. Sometimes I think their reasons are dumb, but I won’t say that. I’ll just question it. I have to always make it clear that I don’t necessarily believe in the point I’m stating, I’m just offering an alternate way of looking at things (a lot of people are quick to ask me if I REALLY believe something, just because I’m presenting it as a different option).
You gave a lot of examples of Ne/Fe and zero for Ti-dom, so ENTP is correct. Your focus is clearly on the external world, not your subjective takeaways from it. You aren’t ‘introvert-blocked’ in that way, and you use Fe too well (aware of, responsive, and either mirroring or refusing to do so) for it to be inferior. :)
Ne-doms play with and debate ideas, they don’t have a personal investment in them – an INTP would not choose proposing alternatives ahead of logical consistency just for the fun of intellectual stimulation or debate.
Many of the stereotypes about ENTPs are about Enneagram 7 Ne-doms, so if you are are a different core type, you won’t relate to many of them. :)

Type Spotting
Do you want to find out someone else’s type but don’t want to ask them to take the test?
In the spirit of this blog, let’s continue to stay indirect and do the typing ourselves.
(Just for future reference, this is now a dedicated page on my blog.)
* * *
Spotting by temperament:
How do they seem from the outside?
ExxJ: Friendly, helpful, and conscientious, although a little bossy and overwhelming.
ExxP: Adventurous, high-energy, and uninhibited, although a little impulsive and unpredictable.
IxxJ: Reserved, introspective, and responsible, although a little too obsessive and uptight.
IxxP: Flexible, individualistic, and non-conforming, although a little too aloof and indecisive.
If they had to give someone advice, are they most likely to tell you to:
xSxJ: Proceed with caution, remain patient and learn from experience.
xSxP: Don’t think too much and just do it.
xNxJ: Reflect carefully on implications and what it means for your future.
xNxP: Consider the big picture, embrace change and be optimistic.
How would you describe their learning style?
xSxJ: They prefer to learn with the appropriate method that relies on tried-and-true procedures.
xSxP: They prefer to learn by using hands-on or first-hand experiences.
xNxJ: They prefer to learn by taking a holistic approach to achieve intuitive understanding.
xNxP: They prefer to learn the “gist” of something before moving on.
What kind of personality traits seem to annoy them the most?
xxTJ: Indecisiveness, self-pity and wishy-washy behaviour.
xxTP: Dogmatic, overemotional and manipulative behaviour, as well as unwillingness to admit error.
xxFP: Lack of authenticity, intrusiveness and living by the book.
xxFJ: Impoliteness, aloofness and inconsiderate behaviour.
In conflict resolution, would they encourage you to:
xxTJ: Face the facts (and display frustration if you remain indecisive or self-pitying)?
xxFJ: See if there is a way to achieve a win-win situation (while potentially being a little overbearing about it)?
xxFP: Listen to your inner sense of what is right vs wrong (while avoiding influencing your decision-making)?
xxTP: Try to get a clear view of the situation, admit your shortcomings, and remain sensible (while avoiding influencing your decision-making)?

Spotting by dichotomies:
What tends to bother them more?
Loud and boisterous people who are too intrusive (I), or reserved people who are aloof and hard to engage with (E)?
Detached from reality, fantasising, and vague people (S), or stuck in the present, impractical, and blind to the future people (N)?
Detached reasoning and emotionally cold environments (F), or decision-making reliant on (gut) feelings and environments where emotional displays are common (T)?
Ambiguity, no direction, and lack of preparedness (J), or rigidness, unchanging environments, and lack of options (P)?
In conversations, are they:
Avid listeners who might monologue at length once the topic they’re passionate about comes up (I), or are they generally very expressive regardless of the conversation topic (E)? I.e., self-contained (I) vs conversational (E).
Most engaged when discussing events and personal experiences in fine detail (S), or when interpreting meaning and speculating about possibilities (N)?
Most convinced by impersonal reasoning or empirical data (T), or by general consensus or whether ideas align with their personal experience and values (F)?
Easily taken by the flow of a conversation, easily straying from original topic (P), or do they make sure to remain on topic and receive closure (J)?
When pressed to be active in the world, do they:
Tend to burn out quickly and become dissatisfied (I)?
Remain energised and are happier for it (E)?
When teaching someone a new subject, do they:
Emphasise crucial details and include anecdotal examples (S)?
Begin by giving you the big picture or supply you with context (N)?
Would you rather describe them as:
A little cold, even if well-meaning (T)?
Oversensitive, even if sensible (F)?
On average, are they more comfortable when:
They have a sense of direction or know the right procedure by which to act (plans being certain) (J)?
They are free to explore and deal with things as they go along (plans being open to change) (P)?
Dear ENTP, I love how we are both too blind to notice crucial details, only to send out embarrassing formal emails.
a good price to pay for all the fun brain stuff you get to pay attention to instead
Dear ENTP, how come you cite expert facts only when it suits your narrative?
when else would we cite our facts? arguing 101
Dear ENTPs, I feel like your refusal to commit to a perspective (repressed Si) and this urge to deconstruct things (auxiliary Ti) is a perfect recipe for misery-producing detachment (that is otherwise quite liberating in the here and now).
It’s as if you won’t let yourself subscribe to one way of seeing the world (the “right” one by some standards), which ultimately leaves you feeling pretty aimless and crippled by doubt.
Or am I wrong?
very very not wrong. i go through daily life from 5 meters above and behind 10 walls of irony and it is the root of all my issues
Dear Ti users, tell me I am not the only one who has gone along with a sketchy situation simply out of curiosity?
my whole life ngl is a culmination of experiences calculated so i (probably) won't die, but that are definitely pretty fuckin weird
Dear ENTP, I appreciate how surprisingly gentle you are with your criticism.
it's that fe we like to pretend we don't have, babye 😔
Dear ENTPs, you’re too promiscuous.
- Said an ENTJ who is a little too in love with their Se.
no such thing as too promiscuous
ISFJ: seems like they are tired, has a lot of energy. ENTP: seems like they are energic, lack of it.
im sorry i ruined your follower count but i like your fellow entp-ness
it's chill! we entps gotta stick together and.. well there's another very special number coming up :)
So I saw this meme going around and I thought I’d jump on the bandwagon
MedCircle: ADHD: How Is It Different from Normal Lack of Attention?
“If you can come up with novel ways to make it interesting, they can do incredibly well. They’re fully capable of doing everything that we all can do, but you may have to present it in a different way.”
types of people as environments
sea: wild hair, iced coffee, probably listens to billie eilish, great instagram, wears bracelets/anklets, was that kid that thought they had some authority on greek mythology bc they read the percy jackson books, seems like they have their life together but actually are lowkey falling apart, can vibe w/ anyone

desert: long road trips, retro diners at 2am, also eats a lot of fast food, nothing fazes them, drunk declarations of love, their hair is their personality, thrives during nighttime, bored eater, acts chill and will say they’re Fine as they lay face down on the floor but also will tell their life story after 10pm
mountains: hot chocolate, gorgeous hair, adrenaline junkie, has a lot of secrets/emotional depth, morning person, will go insane if they’re cooped up indoors for too long, complete 180 from the person their 12-year-old self thought they would be but thank god for that
meadow: softie, henna tattoos, puts flowers in their hair, sparkling water, pastels, likes taylor swift, barely knows how to drive, good at drawing/painting, doesn’t hide their feelings, ppl think their openness can be taken advantage of but they see your motives and Know What You’re Trying To Do
tundra: flawless eyebrows, wears lots of dark colors, thick skin, intense as hell but it’s cool, eyes that stare into your fricken soul, seems emotionally unavailable but actually secretly loves a lot of people and is scared of losing them but will never show it
lake: iced tea, lives at chipotle, hands and feet are always cold, completely screwed up spotify algorithm, hates days when they can’t see the sun, loves spring/summer, really just wants to Calm Down, niche humor, has been saying they’re dead inside since 2014
fucken desert as hell
Never limit yourself. You don’t have to choose between STEM and the arts. You don’t have to choose between that aesthetic or the other. Just let yourself be the most authentic self you can be, embrace all the different aspects of your personality, your interests, and your skills.
this is friggin hard in a system which pretty much forces you to choose between STEM and the arts :/ but if there were was anyone who fucked the system it'd be me i guess
