I do think that ttrpgs as a storytelling medium popped off with pc relationships. imagine you have a story where all the characters are separate individuals developed by different people and their relationships develop organically over time and you STILL find interesting character dynamics and points of contact and foils and parallels and tropes and subversions and and
it's. the inherent humanity of finding connection without being scripted to do so. absolute character agency leading to a satisfyingly coherent narrative
