Long story short: when the show first aired in America in 2000, it was still unusual for a suburban housewife like Lois to be as such a strict disciplinarian. Mothers were the soft ones in sitcoms. The dad was the stern one.

But in Mexico, women are expected to basically control the household and be in charge of punishing the kids. The dad is passive.

So Lois was never that unusual to female viewers.
