Sleeping on the job? That wasn't like him...
Sleeping || Open
"Iâll be fine by myself," She answered curtly. Ami had actually found it rather soothing, just to be wandering around in the countryside, without a bunch of media people beside her. If she got lost, well sheâd find her way back eventually, or just call someone to pick her up. "Itâs the only library in these towns, of course it would."Â
The bluenette was about to say no when she realized he was probably a library assistance. Might as well ask him instead of looking around for the actual librarian. âYea actually I wanted to get a library card.â She picked up her bag, making sure to check if her phone and money was inside.Â
He was inwardly cringing mere seconds after the part about the library - what on earth possessed him to state something so obvious? True, the blue-haired girl was pretty, but not enough that he'd be tongue-tied, or having trouble thinking of what to say. He shook his head, as though doing so would eliminate what he'd said.Â
"A library card, huh. That's simple enough." He glanced around to make sure no books were left lying about, before he grabbed the book cart again and pushing it in front of him. "Follow me, if you would." Polite language was necessary in the profession. There was a table near the borrowing and returns desk, with a single computer on it. He took one of the sign-up forms, handed it to Ami along with a pen. "Just fill out that form, please." While he waited, he moved to the desktop unit to start registering her in the borrowers' database - even if Rosedale wasn't as technologically-advanced as Newstark, there were some things that were slowly being 'upgraded', the library's borrowing system being among them. He could always edit her information later on.Â

"Its fine," She smiled, picking up two books that had fallen closer to her. Standing up, she gently placed them on top of the book shelf, taking in the newcomer. His hair was an rather interesting color, silverish blue. He also didnât seem that much older than her.Â
Nodding, Ami answered his question. âYea, my family moved to Newstark Town about two weeks ago. I only came to Rosedale today since I have a small break." A break from shooting that was. She had decided to look around Rosedale, having seen the majority of Newstark in the past week. She had to do it now too, before school started.Â
"I see." He picked up the last few books to be shelved in that section, returning them to their proper places. "Well, it's not hard to find your way around Newstark; Rosedale, on the other hand, is mostly open fields so you can get turned around when you venture past the town itself." He spoke from experience, a childhood incident where he'd gotten lost himself while exploring. "The library stands out among the other buildings, though."
He was about to wheel the cart away when he remembered - the head librarian would either be taking a short break, or was busy with something else other than book returns. He'd started out with the simple tasks, but by now, Riku could be asked to handle everything should the need arise. "Is there anything I can help you with?" Better to ask while he was still here; that way, he could help her take care of it, and if he rushed to return the books now, the wait for his shift to end would likely become boring.

"YeahâŠyeah I know my stuff." Misaki gave a weak smile, glad the other boy could appreciate it but at the same time sort of embarrassed. Not because he wasnât proud of cooking and all that; no, he fucking loved that; but because he wasnât very good with praise. He had never gotten any when he was a boy, and still hardly any now, soâŠhe didnât exactly know how to deal with it. âI like cooking."
He watched the other man think for a few moments, pen at the ready to scribble down whatever order came into the silver-hairedâs mind. And when the time came he did it without missing a heartbeat.
"AlrightâŠseafood marinara and an iced tea." He echoed like he always did in order to confirm the order with his customers. âCool. Youâll like it. Youâre iced tea will be out soon." He gave a nod and turned around, going back in the kitchen to hand in the order.
"Thanks," he nodded gratefully, setting the menu down. This was another reason he didn't often eat at restaurants alone - he was never sure how to interact with the staff, if at all. His dad made it look so easy, as did other people.
Still, it was worth a shot.
"Say...Yata, was it? Been working here long?" An innocuous enough question, although he really wanted to ask about the other male's cooking hobby - that comment had stood out for the silver-haired teen because he himself could only make simple dishes, mostly. But he didn't think asking about it outright was a good idea.
He smiled back, crouching next to Sora and setting the soda cans - unopened still - next to him. âYâknow, youâre the first one to say that," he said, stroking the feline along the jaw, earning a contented purr from Yuuhi. âBut getting oneâs first pet at this ageâŠfeels a little strange."Â
At the back of his mind, the silver-haired teen was thinking of how old Yuuhi actually was; he was still small, but definitely not as tiny as heâd been when first taken in. There was a muffled thump as the kitten rolled onto his back and began batting at Soraâs hand, ears pricked up. A side glance at his best friend, the smile still in place.Â
"You can pick him up if you want, Sora. He wonât bite."Â
ââ He takes note of the soda and will make sure to grab it as soon as heâs done playing with the cat; though it didnât seem like that would be any time soon. Sora had taken a liking to the cat, and it seemed like the little feline felt the sameâas long as Sora offered a hand for petting.
ââ With the offer in hand, he reaches out and lifts the cat up gently, sitting flat on his butt now as he holds the other in his arms. âHeâs so cute!" he just canât get over the fact.
ââ He glances back up towards Riku. The brunet knew he was kind of imposing, and seeing as how Riku had to leave soon, he didnât know what they should really do. âWhen do you have to leave for work?"
A contented purr from Yuuhi as the brunet cradled him, the feline's ears twitching slightly as the friends talked - as though he could understand what both were saying. Riku, meanwhile, had opened his soda and taken a swig from it, sitting on the floor next to Sora. "Well, he's still a kitten, even if he's bigger now."
Another swig, along with a glance at the clock. "I have an hour, actually. Guess I overestimated earlier." That was the tricky thing with time now and then - you'd think you had enough time but in truth you were behind schedule, and vice versa.Â
"If you want, we could head to the library together - the librarian won't mind if you nod off-" this was true for people using the library, but not for the workers there - "besides, we could go somewhere else once my shift's done."Â

kawashima-ami-chan:
It was a rare day when he was the only library assistant available - not that Riku minded very much. With the laid-back pace of the job, handling things on his own wasnât stressful. Besides, the head librarian was there, so it wasnât as though he was completely on his own.Â
He was attaching tags on the new acquisitions, so they could be borrowed in a few daysâ time, and making notes on which ones were already in the electronic catalog and which ones werenât - one of the new tasks heâd taken over from a library assistant who was on leave due to her graduate studies. When he next glanced up at the returns desk, he noticed the cart for returned books was close to getting full. He replaced it with an empty cart, wheeling it over to the desk he was using to properly sort the books, earning a small grin from the librarian.Â
It was getting to be routine, but one the silver-haired teen didnât mind at all - in fact, it was safe to say he liked it.Â
The silver-haired teen set off to return the books to the proper shelves once heâd sorted them, starting from the back of the library. He got to one of several nooks that were well-hidden, spotted a blue-haired teen nodding off over her book. A student? Riku wasnât sure; perhaps a recent transfer.
He took a few books from the cart, careful to muffle the thumps of the bound tomes being slid into place. A step back to search for the proper shelf where the last volume in hand belonged, and his leg bumped the cart; he made to grab at it, but this did little to change the outcome - it still collided with the table. The resulting sound wasnât particularly loud, but the impact, while relatively lowâŠwell, that was another story.Â
Ami woke up with a jump as a few books thumped onto the ground, next to the area where she had dozed off. A quick look around showed that a book cart had collided with the table, causing the books on the side of it to fall off.Â
Stretching out her back, the bluenette decided to get up. The nap had been rather refreshing to her, and she should probably go get that library card right about now.Â
He cringed as several of the books on the cart hit the floor; as the teen knelt to pick them up, he noticed the blue-haired female stirring - rather, stretching.Â
"Sorry 'bout that; didn't realize how close I actually was to this thing," Riku said, faintly apologetic, a hand resting lightly on one end of the book cart. He moved it away, quickly to a position that didn't block the way as much; resting against the table as it was, it left only a space of about three feet where one could pass. He used his actions to hide his closer inspection of the other teen; he found earlier assumption to be true - this girl wasn't all that familiar to him, so likely she'd just transferred in. But it couldn't hurt to ask.Â
"...by the way...are you new here?"Â

Ami took off her sunglasses as the whoosh of air conditioning greeted her at the sliding doors. Glancing at the shelves after shelves of books, she began walking around, looking at the different sections.Â
"I should probably get a library card," She murmured, flipping through the pages of a random book. When she arrived at the next row, a book caught her eyes. âHey this was only released a while back. They already have it?"Â
Taking the book, the bluenette wandered around till she found a corner towards the back of the library. It was hidden relatively well behind two bookcases. Ami covered a yawn before sitting down, her back against the wall as she began reading. She had hardly gotten past the first ten pages though, when she felt her eyes drooping.Â
Between her different photo shoots and driving to visit her parents at the places for their movie shoots, the model had gotten barely any sleep for the past week. The calm atmosphere of the library was very alluring, and soon she had drifted off.Â

He had to chuckle to himself at Soraâs reply, though he said nothing further on the matter - the brunet was here, he was inside, discussing the âhowâ was, by now, a moot point. Oh well.
He was searching through the fridge for soda or juice - maybe overkill in the cold air now wafting about them, but not unwelcome due to the heat outside - when the surprised outburst came; he had to pause and remember. âNear the end of winter, just this year,â Riku answered finally, resuming his search until he found what he was looking for and pulled it out. âI actually wanted you to see him soon after I brought him home, butâŠâ He let the thought hang, remembering how busy theyâd become just a few months ago. A faint mewl just then, and Riku could imagine Yuuhi rubbing his head or body against Soraâs leg.
True enough, that was the sight that greeted him when he went back out into the living room, a can of soda in each hand. The only difference was, Sora had crouched down, and it was his hand Yuuhi had rubbed against. Now, the little feline had just gotten on its hind legs, forepaws resting on Soraâs outstretched palm. âHe does that sometimes, like heâs wondering why his paws are so small.â
ââSo it really had been such a long time since Sora had really hung out with Riku. It was kind of sad, really; but the brunet wouldnât let it get him down. Riku and him were best buddies until the end of time! Ever since they day they met theyâd just gotten along so easily and Sora could really depend on Riku forâŠwellâŠanything.
ââAttention still focused on the cat he wondered if the little one would let himself be picked up. Though he had to admit, having the catâs tiny paw in his hand was quite adorable. It was like a little handshake. âNice to meet you, Yuuhi." the hero chimes happily, giggling to himself.
ââ Gaze going back up to Riku, the boy smiled. âHeâs adorable. I can totally see you as a cat person, Riku."
He smiled back, crouching next to Sora and setting the soda cans - unopened still - next to him. "Y'know, you're the first one to say that," he said, stroking the feline along the jaw, earning a contented purr from Yuuhi. "But getting one's first pet at this age...feels a little strange."Â

When his eyes focused on the individual before him, he scanned him for a moment, registering everything. Silver hairâŠaquamarine eyesâŠtough looking. Might be someone worth hanging out with, if they werenât a jerk. Misaki met a lot of jerks on the streets where he lived..it wasnât exactly that safest place.
Not like the crow couldnât handle them, though.
And then hearing the guy talk, Misaki knew he was defiantly one of the good guys.
"Yeah, I can help with that." He said with a grin; he knew all the recipes like the back of his hand. Even better, maybe. He hoped that one day, if he was really luckyâŠthe owners might make an exception for his lack of education and promote him to chef. He loved cooking and he memorized all the recipes so by now, he was an expert. And every once in a while he got to show it off.
"The fettucine is for the type that like more creamy things; lots of cheese, lots of butter. Really good if youâre into that. I personally like the seafood marinaraâŠit has some spices in it that makes it taste different than it does in most places. Really good, though. Whatever you like, man."
He was surprised, at first, to find this streetwise-looking male working in a place like Bartley's, but Riku was even more surprised when the redhead answered his question without missing a beat. "Sounds like you know your stuff," he commented, glancing up from the menu again, the hint of a grin on his face. "I usually order seafood marinara, but...only at a few other restaurants."
No, he hadn't tasted Bartley's pasta dishes - not a one - having gone there simply for snacks or a drink before. Yata had made him curious, no two ways about it. And maybe he'd save getting something else for when he wasn't eating out alone.
"Looks like I'm getting my usual - err, the marinara," he clarified at the last, "and...an iced tea." The coffee could wait for later if he needed it; too much of it in one day could wreck his sleep schedule. Â
Facing The New || Open
Most people wouldnât guess that he had a job at Bartleyâs CafeâŠit was sort of on the girly side. It was called a cafe, for christâs sake, the epitome of girly. And Yata Misaki was in no way girly; looking at him for just a second made that clear. He was ruffled, dressed like a gangster, and swore worse than a sailor. Even the thought of seeing him step into the place was ridiculous; his temper could inflame all the pastries on the shelves. But despite all this, the Bartley Cafe was where he was employed. A hard worker, too.
Misaki liked baking. It was a secret pleasure of his; not that he got to do any here, since he was only a waiter and occasionally a busboy, but still. The aroma of all the scents and the atmosphere of people filled with joy from the different edibles calmed him, made him feel more at home. And he made decent pay, too. It was a good place to be for him; and the hours he spent there, he was remarkably happier, less likely to explode.
It was one of his later shifts; he found the later it was, the more interesting people came. More suitable for his personalityâŠyeah, he liked kids, but he could only take them and their naggy mothers for so much. He was in the middle of his waiting job and so far no one had come in that was cool enough to talk to; some girls, but he was scared shitless of those. âYata, over there!" His boss nudged at him, telling him to go serve the new customers that had just been seated. He gave a nod and swiftly came over to the table, pen and notepad in hand.
"Ah, Hello! Yata here, what can I help ya with?"
He sighed.Â
Usually, this time of day, he'd be at home, studying. This was true even after he'd stopped kendo lessons, after he'd left Glendale's martial arts club. It wasn't that Riku didn't go out - he just didn't do so often - and certainly not in these circumstances. He'd been halfway home when he discovered that, for the first time in a long while, he'd forgotten his house keys. The silver-haired male had brought some of his schoolwork with him, as well as a paperback if he really had to stay out longer, but for the moment, he was stuck.Â
But at least you're not lost in an unknown city, he told himself, following someone who seemed to be a head waiter of sorts and and sitting down at the indicated table. Bartley's Cafe was the closest place he could think of, and so here he was.Â
Riku was still deciding what to order for dinner - he'd think about getting coffee later, depending how long he'd be out - when another waiter approached him. He was much younger than the head waiter, maybe around his age. "Uh, hey," the teen greeted in reply, face just a tinge sheepish as he looked back up at the other male. "Think you could recommend a pasta dish? Can't decide whether to get the fettucine alfredo or the seafood marinara." Â
"Because itâs quiet there." Kairi pouted and sighed, though her grin returned immediately, never one to stay sad for too long. âYeah, that would be nice. Even if itâs just for a little while, itâd be good to spend some time together! I mean, I donât even mind inviting more people and throwing a party." She suggested, chuckling softly.
"UghâŠI do enjoy it, especially when we get to take some of the stuff home so they donât go bad..and my coworkers are tons of fun. Itâs just slow days drive me nuts." She grimaced and shook her head. âEspecially when I could be out relaxing on the beach and listening to the sound of the waves..yâknow?"
It didn't take long for the young male to imagine being on the beach as well - it had been a while since he'd gone there, with either family or friends. "I gotcha," he nodded. "On slow days, you can't help thinking about the other stuff you could be doing  - that sometimes happen at the library, too." Of course, Riku had his schoolwork with him, so he could always find something to do. Maybe Kairi and her co-workers didn't have as much freedom in that department, when they were on the job.
"We could definitely plan on that, though - going to the beach."Â
