data, later: hello, geordi. i have created a portrait of us as terran cats. this artistic technique is known as pointillism. it became popular during the late nineteenth century. i selected an american bobtail to represent you, and an oriental shorthair to represent myself. after researching feline behavioral characteristics and common humanoid-to-animal artistic associations, i concluded these were the most statistically appropriate choices. of course, it is not possible to determine which cat breeds we would actually resemble unless we experienced a transporter malfunction or a similar form of energy fluctuation leading to an unexpected physical transformation. i also adjusted the composition to accommodate your VISOR’s perceptual processing. you have previously informed me that faint details tend to blend into surrounding imagery. because of this, i used a high level of contrast to better define the silhouettes. the cats' whiskers and ocular details were rendered in pure white to improve clarity. i additionally incorporated bright violets, cyans, and saturated blues to the main color palette of the piece, as these wavelengths appeared more distinguishable within your visual spectrum. what do you think, geordi?

I just love how curious star trek is.

The media is filled with so much "omg we discovered extraterrestrial life there what if it wants to harm us" but in Star Trek the response to finding new life is always like wow. What do you think they are like?

How do you think they feel right now? Do you think they know of this conflict? Should we ask them for the way? Should we offer them our help? Open a channel. Let's say hello.

And when they're met with suspicion or hostility their response is never to assume badly of an entire species. It's almost always "How do I show them that I'm a friend?"

Appetiser: Cheese and grapes and other picky bits Main Course: Vegetable Biryani, slightly charred Desert: Afogato Drinks: Coffee, brandy, white wine (maybe a Sauvingnon blanc), and cider

Rating: 4/10 - she doesn't put in much effort beyond the biryani (which isn't to everyone's taste…)

Chakotay:

Appetiser: Roasted Beets with Whipped Feta & Pistachios Main: Cashew Mushroom fettuccine Desert: Balsamic glazed strawberries with vanilla ice cream or chocolate fondue Drinks: coffee, various teas, cider, champagne

Rating: 10/10 - the man can cook

Tuvok:

Appetiser: Plomeek Soup Main Course: Pak Tar Desert: Jibalian Fudge Cake Drinks: Various teas, with a pot of coffee just for Janeway

Rating: 6/10 - Humans find Vulcan food pretty bland but he redeems himself with the fudge cake

Tom:

Doesn't believe in structured dining, gives everyone Pepperoni pizza, gives Chakotay a Magherita pizza Drinks: Coca cola, budweiser

Rating: 1/10

B'Elanna:

Appetiser: Stuffed peppers Main Course: Veggie Enchiladas Desert: Banoffee Pie Drinks: Red wine (maybe a Cabernet Sauvignon) or Champagne

Rating: 6/10 nothing too exciting, but nothing bad either

Harry:

Appetiser: Vegetable pancakes with extra spicy Kimchi Main Course: Roast Mediterranean vegetable risotto Desert: Fudge Ripple Pudding Drinks: Whatever you want he's happy to provide

Rating: 7/10 for effort, points deducted for making the first course way too spicy on purpose

Rating: 2/10 - Everyone loves cheesecake and champagne, but usually accompanied by actual food

i'm always curious about which mundane tasks star trek characters still have to perform in the star trek future and which they are mercifully spared from through the wonders of technological development. i think if janeway had to put a new cover sheet onto her mattress every month it would drive her to kill
