Fluffy Rescue - Toni & Alfie

With his bag full of Campbell’s tomato soup, ramen, chocolate milk, and Honey-nut cheerios, Alfie was all set for the next couple of days. Against all odds he was feeling pretty good. After a bad week in which his desire to use had sprung up out of nowhere, he was in contact with his sponsor everyday and feeling better everyday. There was power and strength in making it to the other side of those cravings still sober and still healthy. Besides he had a job waiting for him at home and an email from his sister. Things were definitely good in his world including the warm weather and beautiful shining sun.
His musings were interrupted by a small pitiful sound. A cat… a kitten by the sound of it was mewing nearby. He looked around but didn’t see anything in any of the yards or apartment windows next to him. When it came again his eyes were drawn up into one of the large trees lining the street. “Oh hey buddy. You got yourself up too high didn’t you?” He thought about climbing the tree to get the little fur ball, but there was no way he could reach the first branch without some help. “Man, am I going to have to actually call the fire department to get a cat out of a tree?” He laughed thinking such things only happened in tv shows.

While walking to her place, Toni had to make a few stops to the fabric store. She could buy her own clothes but half of her time was to modify and turn her current wardrobe into something different every time. It was just her way of killing time and it actually relaxed her in a surprising way. Then she stopped at the coffee shop to get her caffeine fix for the day, soon enough she was on her brisk walk home with her head down low looking at her phone. Checking twitter and her instagram. That was until she almost bumped into someone. She was about to call out at him to ‘watch where he was going’ in all irony but then heard a scared cry from a cat.
Looking up she saw the kitten in the tree. “Oh my god, poor thing!” She called. If there was one thing that warmed Toni’s heart it was animals. Although she only had a pet hamster growing up, she could see the cat was stuck and not sure what to do. “Hey maybe I can get on your shoulders to rescue the kitten?” She turned back to Alfie.
