[PM] Hey, can I come down and run a song by you?
PM] Sure, just gimme half hour? I’ll put the kettle on.

A bodyguard? Oh, I thought you were in the military! Sorry! I don’t really work far enough away to justify putting money into a taxi, although if it’s awful I’ll take the subway. But galoshes and a poncho definitely work pretty well– maybe a spare change of clothes just in case. You can look pretty good if you make the effort: my galoshes have strawberries on them, and my poncho is pink!
I’ll talk to the girls over at Community Liaison and get a number for you. I can’t guarantee you’ll have anything glamorous, but it’ll definitely be helpful.
I never really know what to expect when people describe their pets, honestly, but most of the time it’s good. I have heard things like soulmates, but not usually with hamsters, that’s true. I guess if he’s not being a nuisance, that’s all you can ask for, right? And you seem to like him back, even if you don’t explicitly say. It’s okay– I won’t tell.
Yes, I was. Part of the marines for fourteen years then an honourable discharge. The guard duty is familiar and keeps me busy. The subway is good for time, not for easing the soul on it’s safety. I’m sure they look very fetching,
I’ve seen far worse than glamorous, don’t worry, I’ll be there.
Hamsters... are interesting for sure. He’s nocturnal so we at least share that aspect. Not something you can cuddle, per say. He’s alright. I’m not complaining.
Unexpected Meetings||Liam&Mark
liamwayland:
Liam gave Daxton a smile before turning his attention to Mark. The boy was grumpy and why wouldn’t he be, he was soaking wet and probably cold. “Oh yeah yeah man, of course.” he nodded quickly as they started walking upstairs.
He didn’t expect to be invited in. He did want to get to know Mark more, maybe hang out. But he didn’t want him to feel like he had to, just because of a slice of cake a couple of muffins. “You don’t have to… um… you know what? You go ahead, i’m sure Daxton must be cold. I’ll just come in to leave the muffins for you.” he smiled. This wasn’t the time to discuss if Mark did actually want to hang out or if Liam had somehow managed to fast forward and be annoying again. Mark had to look after his boy and that was the priority.
Mark glanced back at him as he took his son inside once he’d fished out his keys. He knew he could put a wall around new people and form a distaste on those who tried to be over-friendly or pried too much into his life. Mark was very private. He didn’t like revealing his name, he didn’t like people prying information from him. He’d open up in his own time, but to start with he was very guarded.
“Yeah man, come in, let me just sort Georgie out and I will,” he commented, referring to the IT character in relation to his son’s bright yellow rain coat.
Taking him to the bedroom, he dried him with a towel and changed him into his pyjamas. Taking a moment to change his own shirt, he wrapped the boy in a blanket and pulled him into his arms. “Do you want a cup of tea, coffee?” he asked as he was going to make his son a hot chocolate.
Knock Knock || Mark&Mercedes
mercedemjones:
Mercedes couldn’t help the warmth of her heart hearing the little boy speak. “He is just too cute for words I swear. Its nice to meet you too handsome.” She said smiling brightly. Looking at Mark she nodded. “Moviing is going.” She said with a laugh. “I am pretty much settled in.” Seeing him place Dax on the floor she shook her head chuckling softly. “He’s okay Mark, with Romeo here I put anything I don’t want broken in a safe place. That dog is a hyper as a child sometimes. Between us I think he sneaks and eats some of my goodies when I am gone.”
Walking towards the kitchen she placed her hair behind her ears. “Thats nonsense, I am glad for the company, actually.” She bent down to be level with Dax. “Dax I am in such a pickle. I can’t seem to figure out how to decorate these cupcakes. Do you think you and daddy can help me?” She looked up at Mark. “I will pay you both with sweets for your services.”
Mark smiled when she accepted his son with ease. Some people could be funny around kids and he was sure to respect that, he knew they weren’t everyone’s cup of tea so he was just thankful that Mercedes seemed happy with his son.
“Good, it starts to feel a little more familiar the less cardboard boxes there are in sight,” he commented with a soft smile. Listening to her explanation, he glanced over to watch the four-year-old go peer out of the window at the city outside. “I wouldn’t be surprised if it was Daxton sneaking in during the night, he’s a muffin monster. I’m sure he’ll gladly become your new best friend,” he joked.
The boy looked over hearing his name before lapping up every word of her dramatic story. “Yes!” he chirped excitedly and dashed over to the kitchen. “We t’an use blue and d’reen” he explained excitedly as he lent up to peer over the counter at the cupcakes. “T’edes, you use yellow,” he took charge quickly.
Singer In A Crowded Park|| Blaine&Mark.
mr-blainderson:
newlynewman:
Mark kept a healthy distance behind his child, he’d never been one to smother them but he was also protective. Especially with the social worker keeping an eye on his actions. However, he caught himself smiling in amusement at the exchange unfolding in front of him.
The boy took a look at the guitar before meeting the gaze of the stranger. He was much like his father, very shy at first and then a bubble of enthusiasm and chatter. A grin and a small pit of laughter left the boy at the comical suggestion, it clearly working on the four year old. “Yep! Maui!” He chirped before showing his muscles like he’d seen the character do in the cartoon after it being on repeat many times.
The father let out a soft chuckle and took the boy’s hand in his. The familiar screen-name took his attention as he composed himself slightly and smirked, “Mr- Blanderson” he taunted back before hugging the boy to his side. “Dax and I thought to come check you out and let me tell you, he’s a tough critic. So you mustn’t be half bad if this little man likes you.”
Hearing the boy giggle upon hearing his father make a fuss of him, Mark knew his intentions had been fulfilled. Although he had come to appreciate the music they’d both listened to, there hadn’t been a lie in what he’d said.
“How’s it been today?” He asked casually while gesturing to the crowd. “Think you’ll be selling out Madison square gardens any time soon? Hey you’ll have to hook us up with some free tickets if that happens. Dedicated fans over here.” He smiled as he watched the boy observe the other’s guitar. “I’m also offended. Apparently you’re better than me.”
The boy let out a laugh before looking up at his Dad. “He is bedder than you,” he grinned before laughing further at his father’s pout.
“Yeah we’ll see doofus.” The elder shot back at his boy before composing a more serious stance. He found it easy to be holy and a good father to his boy, yet it was often a flick between serious adult conversation and bringing joy to the four year old. “This just a hobby outside the law stuff then?” He asked curiously as he watched Daxton inspect the guitar with his eyes. “I think you should consider otherwise. You certainly have a shine about you when performing. That’s just my comment though, take from it what you will.”
“Whoa!” he exclaimed, holding his hand up to his chest. “Look at those guns! Someone’s on their way to giving Maui a run for his money!” He grinned, holding his own arm up. “You’ve definitely already have me beat.”
He glanced back up at the other man before shifting his gaze back down to the little boy in front of him. “Dax, that’s a cool name!” he said, smiling softly as he watched the boy giggle. It was clear to him that he meant everything to his father, and vice versa. It was sweet to see, and he liked seeing this side to his neighbor. They’d only spoken once before, but he’d gotten much more of a hardass vibe than what was being presented here. “Oh, man, New York’s toughest critic, then? No pressure at all,” he teased. “I’m glad to have your approval, I hope I can keep it.”
He stood back up as the older man struck up casual conversation. “It’s been good; it’s a Saturday, I’ve seen plenty of people come through here.” He took a peak into his guitar case and smiled. “Thankfully, I’ve seemed to impress them too.” He laughed lightly with a small shake of his head. “Probably not any time soon, but no doubt, your names are first on the list should it ever happen. You have a daughter too, right? She’s on there too, even if I haven’t met her yet.”
He grinned at the small exchange, chuckling with Daxton before tilting his head at Mark. “Well, I didn’t even know he played, but I’ll take your word for it. Thank you, Dax,” he teased.
His eyes dimmed just slightly at the question, though he maintained a pleasant smile as he nodded. “Yeah, it’s just a hobby,” he said halfheartedly. “Thank you, though. I’ve been performing for as long as I can remember, it’s second nature to me by this point. I’m glad to know that I’ve still got it.”
Blaine had noticed the young boy eyeing his guitar curiously during the conversation with his father. He smiled and knelt down again, waving the boy over to come stand by him. “This is Lucy,” he explained, patting the guitar face lightly with his hand. “She was my first real guitar, I got her for my ninth birthday. Would you want to help me get the song started? It’s real easy, all I’d need you to is…” he trailed off as he strummed. He smiled before holding the pick out to him. “Think you could do that?”
Daxton let out a giggle of laughter at the other man, easily feeling comfortable enough around him to talk and not hide behind his father. As the adults spoke, he found interest in eyeing up the guitar and surveying the people passing by.
“Well, keep at it. Best way to get it out there? Then again, what do I know? I’m preaching to the converted huh?” he smirked softly and kept his spatial awareness about him, to register when his son was in relation to him. “Yes I do and I’m sure she’d appreciate that just as much, thank you,” he said lightly.
Mark dropped his head slightly before smiling to himself. “I know basic chords, I can play a few songs and they’re usual stuff Dad likes. Not “Everything Is Awesome” from the Lego movie,” he explained his son’s views.
Pushing his hands into his pockets, he shifted his stance slightly. “Nothing wrong with pursuing it though,” he shrugged softly as he hoped he hadn’t offended him.
Mark gave him a slight nudge to get his attention before watching the boy step closer to the other male. Daxton tilting his head at the instrument before him then grinning. “Luty,” he repeated before his face twisted with shock and excitement. Such a small act was a big moment to the four year old.
“Don’t drop it, Dax,” he reminded him softly as he was forever shaking plectrums out of his own guitar after the boy posted them through the hole. Keeping an eye on him, he smirked at the joy it brought the boy to take the pick and strum the strings. The soft and pleasant notes filling the air and leaving his son to step back in awe and admiration as he looked up at Blaine.
Unexpected Meetings||Liam&Mark
liamwayland:
Liam smiled as he watched the two and gave a wave at Daxton. “Nice to meet you Daxton! I’m Liam.” He smiled before opening the box “Well there’s three muffins and three of us so that’s a good deal right?” He grinned, glad he was able to give. That’s what made him happy. Being able to offer something to other people. That was what his mother had taught him, when she talked to him about flowers. They made people smile, made their day a little better and showed you care and think of them. What better than that?
Mark gave a quick glance to the boy who murmured a small “hi,” in response. He knew his kid was putting on his best grumpy face about the rain.
Standing up, he listened to Liam before nodding. In truth, he wanted to get his son into the apartment and get him out of his wet clothes before he caught a cold. He appreciated the kind gesture but he couldn’t risk him being sick.
“Sure man, uh, we’re gonna start heading up,” he told him as he picked up the boy and began carrying him upstairs. Stopping outside his door, he sighed softly. “Do you want to come in?” he offered politely.

Those are great ones. I loved the zoo and the spy museum, but I think I’ll wait to think about visiting again until the sun comes back! Glad things went well– what were you doing down there, anyways? The weather has been crazy, for sure: I’ve been all geared up for it, galoshes, ponchos, and all. I usually avoid an umbrella if I can– I’m short and they tend to cause problems in the crowd. But I totally get what you mean.
At the hospital, things can get pretty intense, so we all put in our best stories every month-ish (sometimes more, if there’s a lot). They can be cute stories about the animals, or funny stories about the owners, but just something to cheer up the staff. And then we post them in a binder in the break room, and we vote which one is best, and the winner gets a free lunch! It’s a lot of fun, but the techs usually win, so I was excited it was me this time. Yeah: bad weather is always hard for animals and their owners. But if you’re looking to volunteer, we’d love to have the help! There’s always a lot to do around the hospital.
Huh; well apparently he seems to have taken a liking to you. Like Love at First Sight! I’m not sure where I’d put hamsters in terms of intelligence. They’re pretty clever, but not necessarily interactive, I guess? So I suppose it depends what you’re hoping for. Although if you’re looking for company, I’m sure you can find more than just a hamster to keep you company.
Uhh, I’m a hired guard, I was doing some bodyguard work for a politician. I can’t disclose too much, sorry. I’d lose my job. Well it’s useless trying to get a cab anywhere these days. I often op for a raincoat to be honest, maybe wellies if I’m really pushing it. They may not be the fashion icon of today but they do the job.
That’s a great idea, it sounds like you guys are a proper little family down there. Of course, I’m free all week, sign me up and I’ll be sure to come down.
Hm. I never imagined hearing that phrase in correlation with a hamster. He’s quiet, mostly and he just keeps to himself, can’t ask for much else. I just hope the toddler isn’t planning on leaving him here and forgetting about him. No I’m not looking for company but it’s one of his bonus perks I suppose.

Sunday’s were always quiet for Mark. It was a time he could reflect, a time he could pause, stop, take some time to just do nothing.
Yet this Sunday, he had company with him and Mark couldn’t have been happier about it. He’d been sat watching cartoons with his boy when the message came through and for once he decided to make an effort and be sociable.
“Come on bud, we’ll be back soon.”
After lacing up little shoes and fitting on a small jumper, he picked up the four year old and carried him down the flights of stairs.
Two knocks at the door and Mark drew in a long but deep breath. He was a little nervous. It had been a while since he’d done anything like this and he felt a little out of his comfort zone. Though his attention quickly snapped up when the door swung open in front of him.
“Hey- damn you were right. It smells amazing in there,” he quipped. “I’m Mark”
@mercedemjones
Mercedes was glad to be finally settled in, she had unpacked her baking pots and went right to work, wanting to perfect her muffins and cupcakes. When Mark said he would be stopping by she was excited to make a new friend in the building.
But when he said he would be bringing his son, she immediately tried to think what would make a four year old happy. So she grabbed her toppings and frosting, wanting his son to help her decorate the cupcakes.
She had just pulled another batch of muffins out the oven when a there was a knock on the door. She placed the muffins next to the cupcakes she already had cooling and went to the door.
Wearing a pair of yoga pants, off the shoulder top and her cooking diva apron she opened the door with a smiled. “Thanks! Come on in guys.”
Bending down she smiled at the little boy who looked like his dad. “Hi I am Mercedes, who are you cutie?”
Mark smiled softly as he looked down to his son for an answer. The little boy that carried the image of his father looked up at her before leaning his head to Mark’s shoulder. “Daxton,” he chirped softly. “Nite t’meet you, Mertedes” he responded. The father smiling slightly, “still hasn’t grasped the C’s, they just become T’s” he explained on behalf of his boy before following her inside.
“How’s moving in going?” he asked with a small groan as he lifted the boy down onto the floor and let him go. “Dax, don’t touch anything,” he told him clearly before looking into the kitchen. Hearing the boy call back a quick “Okay Daddy,” he settled a little with confidence that his son would behave. The last thing he wanted was him breaking anything. “I hope we’re not intruding.”
PM] Fancy grabbing a beer or two later? - M.N.
[PM] Sure, sounds good, just let me know what time and I’m there.
How was DC?
mr-blainderson:
[PM] Sure, sounds good. Am I just coming to yours or are we going out? Either is fine with me, but you’ll have to deal with me in my sweater vest if I’m meeting you somewhere else. Uhh, to be honest, I kind of just assumed that Cooper moved him downstairs to Cap, but thanks for letting me know. Do you want me to take him off your hands or do you like the company?
I’m working a normal amount, thank you. But I’m good otherwise. Coop and I worked on a song that turned out really well and caught some attention. Kind sparked my inspiration again.
How are you? How’s my biggest fan?
PM] We’ll go out. I need to get out of the house. Sweater vest is fine, I’m saying nothing, your secret is safe with me, Freddie. He’s not doing any harm, I’ll leave him there for now, but if you’re missing him, you can take him back.
That’s great news, I’m glad for you both. Stick at it.
ny-tina:
Washington DC? That’s so cool! I haven’t been there since high school, but I remember it being really fun. Although now, with Hurricane Florence, I’m guessing you might have just been very wet. I hope everything went okay? Here it’s just been raining a lot.
I think we’re doing okay– in my case, things at the hospital have been a little hectic. A lot of lost and injured pets due to bad weather, but things are well overall, I think. I won the Pet Story of the Month!
You’re babysitting Cooper’s hamster? I’m surprised he didn’t ask Blaine to do it, although if you and he are close, then it’s good you can spend time together. I’m sure he doesn’t mind being called Lil’ Satan, but it sounds like so long as you’re talking to him, he’s happy no matter what you’re calling him.
I know right? That’s what I thought too, it was cool to see the Washington and Lincoln monument, but yes, alas, there was a lot of rain. Everything went fine, thanks for asking. I can see that, I got caught in a shower this morning. Make sure you take an umbrella with you if you dare to go out.
What’s... what’s the pet story of the month? It sounds terrific but again, I am clueless to what it is. Although it’s sad news about the pets. Let me know if you need a helping hand down there, I’m happy to give up my time.
I am, yes, I don’t know how but that’s what has happened. I wouldn’t say we’re close in a relationship terms. He made a guest appearance in my bed once so that’s the only closeness we’ve had. I’m sure he doesn’t mind, but I’m not looking like an idiot while walking around my apartment referring to a hamster as Lil’Satan. Are hamsters really that intelligent? I suppose it’s company at least.
Out of Character:
Okay.... little disclaimer. This idiot has accidentally been deleting their posts while thinking they were drafts that had messed up. So, I may be missing a few replies I’ve sent to people. I know, I know. I’m gonna go hide my head in shame.
Unexpected Meetings||Liam&Mark

Liam smiled over at Mark and made sure to leave the boy be, as he didn’t want to make him even more uncomfortable than he already was. “Dax? That’s the coolest name i’ve ever heard!” he grinned. He hoped it might cheer up the boy a little bit. “I get them for free, man, it’s not like you will owe me anything and i’d rather give them to Dax and cheer him up than just have one and put them in the fridge.“ he explained, with a big smile. “Just think of it this way. You might be saving my cat’s life right now. I’m sure he’d find a way to eat them and he really shouldn’t.” he chuckled.
Mark looked across at the other man before rummaging around for his keys. Finally fishing them out, he smiled at the boy, “There we go! They were hiding from us. Tsk, bad keys.”
At the small smile he brought to his son’s face, Mark felt a little relief that he wasn’t the world’s worst parent. Then came the offer.
“This is Daxton, he’s come to say hi for the weekend.” He told Liam clearly so not to be rude. Nodding appreciatively, he hesitated before collecting his jacket from the floor and shaking off the excess water.
“Thank you, although please, there’s only two of us. Keep some for yourself.”
mr-blainderson:
Yeah, it’s definitely a drink that’s for the casual enjoyment than actual coffee. But I’m the same really, more often than not I’m just getting plain coffee.
I would love for you to humor me sometime, I can only imagine what some of those stories could be. Thank you! It was four long years, I’m glad to have gotten something out of it. And that’s certainly one word for it, yeah. Seems accurate enough.
Nope! Maybe a bit Jason, but definitely not Michael.
Plenty of plain coffee here if you ever fancy a cup. Might be some decent company too.
You can humour me with some legal stories then. Best cases and worst. Just don’t go getting yourself fired, as I will also do my best to not end lose my job. I can keep a secret.
Did I not tell you Jason was my twin brother? If I’m Jason then you must be Freddie.
ny-tina:
Whew! Although I am sorry that Cooper and Blaine are causing problems for you. They’re good guys, I promise, albeit a little…theatrical, I guess. You’ll never be bored in this complex, for sure.
I don’t think we’ve met. I’m Tina, on the sixth floor. Nice to meet you!
Oh I’m definitely getting that vibe. There will never be a dull moment for sure. I can’t say they’re causing me trouble. They’re just young, leave them to it. I enjoy winding them up.
Nice to meet you too Tina from the sixth floor. I’m apartment four, floor four.
ny-tina:
He’s adorable!…and I think he might belong to Cooper. I’ve never seen it, but he got a new hamster recently. I mean, I can’t believe he’d already lose it, but I don’t think stray hamsters are a thing, are they?
Ah, that doesn’t surprise me.
But no, I haven’t heard of stray hamsters. He’s a sweet little fella. I forget how tiny they are.

That, uh…that would be Lil’Satan. If you give me two seconds, I’ll be right over to get him.

Would anyone be kind enough to tell me why there’s a hamster in my apartment? The shock and confusion I had when this little guy crawled on the bed next to me was uncanny.
