A short laugh, head shaking fondly. "Well, you got me for a lil' while. Can't ever move from New Orleans but I can certainly travel."

"just that time of year. they'll probably have cleaners out soon." because the board could always find the money to worry about the outward appearance but never to appropriately staff the hospital. he sighed quickly as he tried to subtly stretch his back. "i'm happy to tell gloria that someone was complaining about it, though."

"by all means. looks like a shit heap. s'a wonder you get anyone comin' in at all." lips press together and he winces. "sorry, s'not a dig on you, not at all. you guys are doin' fuckin' amazin' all things considered. more of a dig on the upper head honchos who don't wanna do shit about how it looks on the outside." nice save. "you doin' alright?"

"nothin' i haven't already tried. it's pretty much painkiller resistant."

"for?" but he's already closing his file and setting it aside. there's curiousity in his gaze, but he's known atlas long enough this will be - fun.

"pantry's lookin' a little empty." it's been a long few shifts and it's prevented him from doing his usual shop. much prefers doing it in person than online, which is just a him problem. "you up for it?"

She made him laugh, and her smile grew brighter. The right person showing up at the right time could turn a terrible day around, even without coffee. “As if anyone else gets a say.” She replied, always believing it was better to ask for forgiveness than permission. Sure, she couldn’t actually rename the hospital, but that didn’t mean she wouldn’t find the time to print out a little sign to hang up at the nurses’ station for him to see when he came back later.

“You don't have to get me anything else.” Her stomach might have growled at the thought of pastries, but she didn't want him to go out of his way any more than he already was. Coffee was more than enough. “Extra cream and extra sugar.” She usually avoided too much sugar, but today she figured if the caffeine didn't help, a sugar rsuh would.

"I think they'd have a lot to say about it, mind." Atlas knows, deep down, that she's just joking but it makes him laugh regardless, smile brightening some more. He knew that the smallest of things could help brighten up a bad day and Lord knows that the nurses needed that little boost. They worked harder than anyone else he knew and if he were able to, he'd get them all a treat.

"Are you sure?" Because he heard the growl and knew that she was hiding it behind her smile. He didn't exactly want her to go on working without eating anything decent. He'd get her a pastry anyway. "Do you have any dietary restrictions? Anything you're not allowed to eat?" Because yes, he was going to get her something because she needed and deserved it.
