and in the end, the two of you (rocky and grace both) get to spend more time you didn't think you'd have knowing and understanding. you learn the languages fully. you pick up quirks and habits and pieces of culture. and even when the happy ending is provided for you (grace) and there's a shot at making it back to your planet, you aren't even sure you want to take it. because you (grace) love this life, this weird, alien, unimaginable life that you've gotten to build. and you (rocky) hesitate to offer but you know you have to. because you (rocky) love grace an unimaginable amount in an unimaginable way. but you (rocky and grace both) get to make that choice together, this time. it isn't an impossible choice. and if you want to stay together, here on Erid, you (rocky and grace both) can make that choice guilt-free and happy.

Fictional characters are objects.

They are not people. You cannot "objectify" them, because they have no personhood to be deprived of. They have no humanity to be erased. You cannot "disrespect" them, because they are not real.

How you treat fictional characters, given they are entirely objects of fiction, does NOT necessarily speak to your own character, and you do not need to be "careful".

It is not dangerous to imagine dark things happening to fictional characters. It does not mean you are secretly a bad person. It does not mean you unconsciously want to hurt people in real life. It is not a "slippery slope" to doing bad things to people in real life. You cannot damage your brain or turn yourself into a bad person by consuming "dark" fanfic.

I can write tentacle noncon of my favorite character all day long and be a fierce anti-sexual assault advocate in real life because what I do in my head is not the same thing as what I do in real life.

I do support them actually. because it’s fiction and it’s fun. I have been writing and reading fanfiction about my favorite fictional characters getting raped for years now and it’s never a secret lmao. I’ve always been open about it.

A bill has been introduced in the US that would make all pornography a federal crime. Owning it. Creating it. Distributing it.

Under this law, fanart of nude characters would be a federal crime.

Under this law, depictions of homosexuality or simply being transgender, would be considered pornography and a federal crime.

This bill is not going to pass.

However, the reason for this bill is to continue to push the "overton window". The reason for this bill is to make banning pornography seem more and more normal to everyone until they can actually do that.

And remember, they consider depictions of gay characters and transgenders characters "pornography" in any context, including platonic.

They have been working on this for a decade now and it has been working.

If you are one of the people in fandom who thinks that "nasty" porn on AO3 should be banned because it's "icky" or "immoral", then this mental scam is working on you.

Censorship is never about protecting people.
