Air India Flight to Tel Aviv Diverted to Abu Dhabi Amid Missile Threat
Suspense Crime, Digital Desk: On Sunday, an Air India flight from Delhi to Tel Aviv was diverted to Abu Dhabi after a missile was fired near Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport. The incident occurred less than an hour before AI139’s scheduled landing, which was aboard a Boeing 787.
Air India confirmed the diversion, stating that the flight landed safely in Abu Dhabi. The airline also announced the suspension of operations to and from Tel Aviv until May 4, 2025, as a precaution.
Airline Provides Passengers With Refunds and Waivers
An Air India representative mentioned, "Flight AI139 from Delhi to Tel Aviv on May 3, 2025, was diverted to Abu Dhabi following an incident at Ben Gurion Airport this morning. The flight was safely completed and is now in Abu Dhabi, from where it will proceed to Delhi shortly."
In response to the disruption, Air India offered a non-refundable surcharge for rescheduling and full refunds for cancellations on tickets purchased between May 3 and May 6, 2025. The airline reiterated that the safety of passengers and crew is their top priority.
Flight Was in Jordanian Airspace at the Time of Diversion
According to details sourced from Flightradar24.com, the flight was cruising over Jordanian airspace when the diversion decision was made. Additionally, the return flight from Tel Aviv to Delhi scheduled for the same day has been canceled.
Ben Gurion Airport briefly halted traffic when a missile, reportedly from Yemen, landed near the airport. This incident raises new concerns regarding the safety of aerial operations in the region.
