“Oh – hey.” Clay hesitated waving at first, never having met a friend of Nadine’s. He took what he thought was the appropriate response and turned it into a terrible joke, “I’m not following.”

Effie’s eyebrows raised ever so slightly at the stranger, but a quick glance between him and Nadine told her that he was probably exactly who she suspected he was. “Saying you’re not following makes it seem like you might actually be following and just trying to cover it up,” she began, “But you seem nice enough, so I’m still not sure.”
