I REALLY enjoy working with engineers.
I’m working on some art for the Luna City Mint, a great organization whose end goals involve colonizing the moon. This will get turned into a woodcut print sent out as a “thank you” for patrons that donate on a six month cycle.
On September 4, 1957, at the age of 15, Dorothy Counts began her school year at a previously White-only school district in North Carolina.
Children and adults threw rocks at her, spat on her, and tossed raw eggs over her head on her walks to school as well as mid-class.
When I was looking over pictures from the event, I couldn’t stop thinking about how she looks like the ONLY human being in the crowd, the controlled look in her eyes.
Maybe you’ve been bullied too, and you know what it looks like to feel “on display”. In drawing her, I’ve thought a lot about her strength. I hope I can pass a little of that strength on to you guys.
