Your children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself. They come through you but not from you, And though they are with you, they belong not to you. You may give them your love but not your thoughts, For they have their own thoughts. You may house their bodies but not their souls, For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams. You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you. For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.

Hand-Painted Carpets by Jason Seife
Reinventing his favorite eras in Art History, mostly Renaissance, through the mediums and techniques that were not yet discovered or utilized at the time, Miami-based artist, Jason Seife (born 1989) bases his approach on merging tightly rendered images with thick layers of color that create distinctive texture. His newest body of work shows his interest in the geometric pattern of old Persian carpets.

If you identify yourself as a Sunni Muslim, I am totally okay with you not participating in mourning for the tragedy of Imam Hussein (AS) and the killing of the Prophet Mohammed’s grandchildren by people who called themselves “Muslim” and who had the audacity to pray Maghrib after mutilating the bodies of the Prophet’s grandsons. I recognize the differences in approach to this event, and that everyone was brought up differently. You have no obligation to mourn or participate in any way and I have no judgment whatsoever in what you choose to do. Here’s where I do have a problem, and this is addressed to my Sunni friends, and I’m referring to those I know and even like, not the strangers who I have no connection to in any way. I’m extremely annoyed by those who share disgusting images of self-harm by ignorant Shias without any context to how many scholars have outright forbidden these acts or even the least bit of knowledge about the events of Karbala itself. I had someone say that it is “important to share these things and tell non-Muslims that they are unislamic due to fear of the extremists among them saying something.” I don’t give a shit what ignorant non-Muslims have to say about anything. First of all, where are all your posts about the good things that come out of Muharram, what is the intention behind sharing only the negative acts committed by a few from the other sect. The subtext behind it says nothing more than “we are not like them”. It vilifies the other side and gives no nuance or context to the subject at all. Secondly, I’m not worried about what non-Muslims have to say right now because in the last few days alone it was terrorists who called themselves Muslim actually that targeted and murdered Shi'a mourners in Iraq, Nigeria, and Afghanistan. So this ignorant and hateful vilifying of the other does nothing more than lead to a long dark road whose end is violence. It’s pathetic. So if you see it, speak up and shut it down. If you see people only sharing negatives, hold them accountable and ask them about the positives. If you see them vilifying, question their intent. This is not okay. Our lives matter. Every human life is worthy, and I don’t give a shit if you disagree with this and that. Words have consequences and if you stay silent then you might as well be part of the problem.

Raise your daughter as a blessing. Never make her feel unwanted by putting her in a position where she is ashamed to be a woman.

Man comes from a drop of semen and leaves as a piece of dust. He doesn’t know when he came and he doesn’t know when he’s leaving, yet he goes around thinking he knows everything.
