Welcome, welcome. You are tuning in to the Riot Boys’ podcast, this week we have polished the finest china and rolled out the red carpet, and it’s all ‘cause we have someone really special, and really cool among us. You probably already know ‘cause it says right there on the episode title… still, let me introduce... drum roll, please ! Prince Nicolás of Liroux ! First things first, are we meant to call you your royal highness or what’s the deal here?

NICOLÁS: LAUGHS. Oh, no. Please, don’t! Just call me Nicolás please, or Nic, that’s fine as well. Hello everyone on the internet.

Alright, alright, Nicolás, it’s so cool to have you. You’ve been all over the news ‘cause you just got admitted to a very prestigious law program in Northridge University in Scotland. How are we feeling?

NICOLÁS: It’s very cool. Believe it or not, I understand how this is a huge opportunity and I am very honored to have been accepted. I must admit I didn’t really think I was going to get it but now I am supposed to pack my bags in a few weeks. CHUCKLES.

Here with the boys, we always believed in you. It was really no surprise to see you get it. 

NICOLÁS: Thanks, man. I appreciate that, I really do.

Now, I did my research before you arrived and I know you will be under the tutelage of a certain Professor Griswold, the men’s got a pretty impressive CV. And to make things spicier for his students, one of them will score a spot at his law firm at the end of the semester. Is that right? Do you think you can get it?

NICOLÁS: Oh oh oh, you came prepared, mate. LAUGHS. It’s all true. I was equally excited and surprised when I got his letter inviting me to be part of his class. I don’t know him that well personally but I know enough to know he’s a one of a kind and as cliché as it sounds, I am ready to learn a lot from him. 

Don’t try to dodge that bullet, Mr. Nicolás Bouiette. But what about the competition?

NICOLÁS: LAUGHS. I know I can win it. If I decide to put on the effort that is. You see, my biggest weakness is that I’m not usually the most organized or dedicated student but at the same time… I have the wit and I can be very astute, so I’d say my strengths lay not so much in the textbooks but in the delivery, being in a courtroom or getting my hands down and dirty on a case. So in that sense… I don’t know. I’d say it’s pretty rigged.

Well, we’ll be rooting for you. Now, leaving Lawyer Nicolás Bouiette aside. Let’s talk about growing up a prince. I can’t imagine what that must be like. Was it fun? Was it hell? Was it like in the movies? What can you share?

NICOLÁS: It was definitely not as fun as they make it out to be on the Princess’ Diaries. It was mostly a lot of boarding schools and this thing my dad calls “king training”, which is basically learning about etiquette and a bunch of other stuff that royals need to know and do, no matter if you’re going to rule or not. They’d hate me for saying it but it’s a bunch of really boring stuff. Wouldn’t recommend it.

Word. As I said, can’t imagine, mate. But in that sense, I am also curious, what does a prince do to keep himself entertained? What are some of your hobbies?

NICOLÁS: Well… I feel like everyone knows how I keep myself entertained just by looking at the tabloids. LAUGHS. But there’s no reason to give Liroux’s PR office anymore headaches… Let’s see… Do you follow me on letterboxd already?! Not a lot of people know this but I am a film buff. I keep up with award season and everything. LAUGHS. But I also enjoy going to museums and reading novels and poems. I’m just very interested in the arts in general.

And what about your sister, Princess Céline? She is next in line to the throne, what are your thoughts on that?

NICOLÁS: What can I say? I love Céline, she is my little sister. The whole world may see her as the Princess of Liroux, the future queen, and she’s all that, she really is, but she’s also my little sister and I’m always going to be her annoying yet protecting brother. I’m sure she is going to do a great job.

Mate, thank you so much for being so cool about it. Not gonna lie, I was a bit scared to ask you about her, since I know it might be sort of a touchy subject.

NICOLÁS: Not at all. Honestly, the whole firstborn, birthright, it’s all very archaic bullshit. I am glad Liroux will have a worthy queen when the time comes. That’s half lie, half truth.

Dude, you really are cool. Wow. Anyways, okay, moving on… We are almost done with our little chat. And there’s two questions that we always ask our guests… The first one is… Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

NICOLÁS: Oh. We are getting deep here. I just see myself doing things that matter to me. I have a very strong set of beliefs, a strong sense of justice among other things that are important to me and that I will always stand for. That’s why going into the law program in Northridge is so important to me and why I would love going to Griswold’s law firm, it’s a means to an end, to do my bit into making the world a better place. That and the ego boost, of course.

Now, before we go… What would you say to your younger self if you had him in front of you?

NICOLÁS: EXHALES. It’s okay to be scared, you are allowed to feel all the feels you’re feeling. You are valid.
