Nichelle was abandoned shortly after birth; to this day, she does not know who her birth parents are/were. Due to infertility issues, the parents she has sought children of their own by other means and fostered-to-adopt Nichelle as an infant, officially adopting her by the time she was 1 year old. Prior to adopting her, she had been known as ‘Baby Amani’; her parents legally named her Nichelle Amani Young.
Her father is a famed, beloved and long time Hollywood actor with TV, film, producing and a few directing roles under his belt. Following an incident with the paparazzi and hyped up fans, Nichelle was diagnosed with claustrophobia and agoraphobia. Controlled crowds make her uneasy, and being in crowed spaces for too long, or close by to large numbers of people for too long result in her having severe panic attacks. Additionally, being in small/tight spaces tend to make her feel crowded, unable to escape and often result in panic attacks and meltdowns.
Following the incident and her diagnosis, her family discussed and ultimately agreed that, going forward, she would only attend private or the highly important events and screenings with her dad/her family. Nichelle also opted to distance herself, physically, from the immediate and regular limelight by moving out of Tinseltown and to San Francisco–a city she’s loved and adored for more than half of her life.
While she carries disdain and some bitterness toward the paparazzi, she has always had a love and appreciation for the art of photography and the storytelling that can come with it. That love became a passion, which led to her career choice. She had worked for a few photography studios, gaining more experience and knowledge under her belt before branching out to become a freelance photographer. Occasionally, she contracts with local businesses, media/magazine companies, and agencies in need of photographers for sporting events or modeling gigs. Her more steady bookings, however, have been weddings, pregnancy, baby & family, holidays and other special occasion shoots.
Nichelle was previously in 1 serious relationship that led to a brief marriage. She filed for divorce after 2 years from her opportunistic, cruel and self-serving ex-husband, during which she learned she was also pregnant. Their divorce was finalized before she gave birth to a baby boy, whom she was granted full custody of; her ex only has visitation rights at this time. Thankfully, her opportunity-seeking ex-husband was denied the alimony he sought, believing that Nichelle would be loaded due to her parent's fame and wealth (both of whom had the good sense to withdraw her trust when she became engaged).
There had been times in her life–particularly in her early adult years–where she thought heavily about her birth parents. She considered seeking them out, just to find out more about them and whether or not they were even alive still, but on top of a very public divorce + the incident wherein she’d been swarmed by the paparazzi and feared for her safety scared her into doing any investigating without drawing more attention to herself or her family.
