If I remember correctly, I was making a @bfccymbals crash for Master. I hammered a helluvalot of cymbals that day and was totally immersed in my groove. This is/was a K Con from division Z of Big Cymbal. A very nice cymbal as it was but my client asked me to lower the pitch, kill the fundamental “goooooonnnggg” sound on the crash and get the sustain under control. I had to completely restructure the shape to accomplish this. But that’s what I do. Oh, and I added some racing stripes... because I can. CLASS IN SESSION‼️All B20 bronze is not created equal. Can you see the difference between the Turkish and Chinese alloys? Both of these scraps are from modifications, and both cymbals came from reputable foundries. Chinese B20 shavings are harder, sharper and more jagged while the Turkish shavings are softer and more smooth. In general, Chinese made B20 is harder and more brittle than Turkish alloy. Why? A higher percentage of iron, silicon, sulfur and lead are present. Trace amounts of these substances and others are found in most high tin bronzes, however once the content passes a certain threshold, negative qualities such as veining and brittleness become much more common.
