Causes and Solicitors

Whoa. Do people understand that donations are free money and complaining about the amounts given makes them an asshole? I struggle to make ends meet. I've got fourteen dollars in my pocket that needs to last two more days until payday. Why? Wage discrepancies to start. My hourly wages in retail aren't enough to survive on. But I also live near many panhandlers, and I have several friends who were doing just fine that are always asking me to donate to their bulshit causes. I gave away twenty dollars total this week that I couldn't afford to give, and two of the recipients were upset with me for not giving them more. Yeah. People who are receiving government assistance, but supplement their income by panhandling. Fortunately, I'm smart enough to stop giving to those types of folks once my hard earned is rejected or scoffed. My friend, well, she's not my friend anymore, complained that I only donated five dollars to her walk-a-thon! I explained that I couldn't spare the five dollars I donated, and told her she could return it to me so I'd have more food money if she was displeased. I let her know she was not the only person asking me to donate, and my meager donation hurt my pathetic budget more than someone who has money to spare and able to donate more. People who have it all just don't get it. It is beyond insensitive to ask people who need financial relief to donate to any cause..THEY are a cause, WE are a cause. Your fundraiser makes you appear stupid, selfish, and self-absorbed when you are oblivious to the struggle before your eyes. And the people who come into the store I work at asking me for money? Wow. I work retail, and you're asking me for $250? And you'll take a check? And you want me to feel bad because of all the children you're trying to help feed? And you're showing me bogus pictures of your volunteer time? Why don't I just cut you a check for $250000? It would be just as good as the one you think I can afford to give you for $250! GET OUT!!

Hungry for Answers

Dear Lady with the "fat chip" on her shoulder, You walked into my store today with a chip on your shoulder. You assume I am prejudiced against you because you're overweight, in fact you are considered obese. I didn't make you that way. This is not a specialty shop. When you are obese, you are a specialty size. You would never catch me walking into a specialty shop for plus size women's clothing and throwing a fit because there's nothing in the store that will fit my petite frame. You hurled snarls and insults at me when I asked you if I could help you find anything. You were outraged that we did not have anything in your size available in our store. And you clearly assumed because I am athletic and fit that I was judging you for being fat. Well guess what? Once you started insulting me I WAS! Because I am sick of women like YOU who are overweight complaining that it is too hard to find clothing and they can't lose weight. If you put half as much energy into the food your stuff down your pie hole and all the time you spend not exercising into exercising and eating a healthy diet, you wouldn't be overweight. Being overweight is NOT a natural state. It takes a lot of energy, time, and money, to get fat. That's just the cold hard truth. I don't make excuses. I had to face that cold hard truth myself when I was 55 pounds overweight. And my weight gain was due to medication, but a lot of it was due simply because I was overeating. I sucked it up did what it took to get fit and lose that extra weight and now I feel a million times better. And I don't worry if my weight goes up or down a few pounds, because I am not a freak. But I am healthy. And damn it, YES I am healthier than you! I'm sick of the reverse discrimination that slender people face. This is the one time I will take a stand in defense of all petite or otherwise think, fit, and slender women Because I don't think I'm any better than you. But I'm sick of you making me feel worthless because I choose to value my physical and mental well-being and the results of that is a physically Fit Body. I've seen friends have their physical capabilities ripped out from beneath them. I won't take it from some fat lady telling me there's something wrong with me. Soapboxing over.

I Have To Wonder

Do the women who come into my store and complain about the inventory or lack thereof, knowing I'm just a sales person and have no control over the inventory or ordering process, also complain at restaurants about what's on the menu or not on the menu as well? Or am I the only one privy to their futile commentary?
