100%!!🔥(A lot of text, sorry) Nowadays, players are looking at the quality, individuality, and depth of a character. They take their stories and actions more seriously, analyzing their decisions and behaviors. (Not everyone, of course, but the percentage of such players is not insignificant). There are also quite a few simply adult people playing games now (they understand complex characters better). Unlike children, who play simpler games, not ones with complex mechanics and storylines. Many people first played AC3 in 2012-2013 when they were 10-14 years old, and back then Ezio naturally appealed to them more (you know why). Connor was too serious and different for them; his story was heavy, and there were no clear good guys or bad guys. From the third part onwards, they started to show that the world is not black and white. That Templars and Assassins can have the same goals and desires but implement them with different methods. Revenge does not ease pain and loss (Connor didn't kill Washington, even though he was responsible for his mother's death). And there are many more examples you could give. This game is suitable for an adult audience, for those who have already experienced the bitter and unfair side of life. Furthermore, many people say that most only completed the main story. The homestead missions and naval battles make up another 50% of the content (If you're going to play a game, play it fully before giving it a full review). That's where they show Connor as a different person (sweet, cheeky, kind). He always labored for people, not just for his own nation (he wasn't selfish). He fought not only for his own people. He fought FOR ALL PEOPLE. I love him very much, and maybe my opinion is not objective towards him. But he really has great potential. His story (especially the years he lived), there are so many interesting battles and events. They could have made 3 games about him if he hadn't been trashed by kids. Because of the poor audience reaction, they put him in a dark corner and rarely mention him (my baby🥹💔). The kids grew up, replayed AC3, and understood everything. Some regret not understanding him and want him back. With their negativity in 2013, they destroyed that hope, and Ubisoft caved to the reviews. Now he is even considered the strongest assassin without divine powers. He is a one-man army (remember the movie trailer), his fighting style. The Japanese consider him a "Berserker". He should be one of the most famous master assassins. Because he REBUILT the American Brotherhood ALL BY HIMSELF! If AC3 had come out now in 2026, he would be understood and loved. Men would respect him. Women would adore him (in fact, women already do😏🫦). I mean his popularity would be like Leon's. Women love men like that. Beautiful, strong, resilient, sweet, kind, and confident all at once. They didn't give him a chance in 2013; in 2026 they regret losing such a cool character.

He spent years with them, he cared for them. Do you think he ever sees a white feather and thinks about his mom Maria? Does he ever look at a plane and feel joyous laughter bubble up because

Does he smell a new tea Shaun buys and for a moment go “Malik would like this.”

And everytime it happens he has to remind himself that they’re not there.

Oh the grief he would feel at each moment. They’re dead, they’ve been dead for centuries and yet he feels like he just lost them. And he did, because just a month ago he was sitting on a bench with Leonardo talking about weapons. It wasn’t that long ago that Malik cursed him for drawing too much attention to him. It was even sooner that he watched two of his friends get married.

And oh, doesn’t that grief feel stolen? It’s such a raw feeling. An emotion that burrows in your chest. It makes your head feel too heavy for your shoulders and your throat feel like it’s closing. But it’s not his is it?

He grieves for friends and family who don’t even know he exists. He never met them, and wouldn’t that make it so much worse? The feeling of wrongness makes grief so much more powerful does it not?

They’re not his to mourn. They’re just another thing pushing him closer to insanity.

Ftm! Sirens in a world where sirens are all female. A pirate navigating trought the sea when they spot what they think is a man lost at sea. Turns out it's a siren but with the body of a man and two weird scars on his chest. And the pirate captures them because wtf?! That should not be possible and notices that they do,in fact,have standard siren genitalia. And then the siren having to explain that yes,they were born like every other siren but it just didn’t feel right... and then maybe he joins the crew because it's far more manly to be a pirate then a siren and then the pirate that found him and him fall in love and it's cute as hell.

Could work with any pirate but I'm so immagining this with Jack Sparrow.

It's not perfect- Strawpage's design tools are... not great- but I did my best to bring you all a Tumblr-free transcription of all my lessons. This is probably the most labor-intensive thing I've done for this page (next to the character polls). Four months of blood, sweat, and tears... and now, she LIVES!!!!

Some Notes:

I created it with the intent of Desktop use, so Mobile might have some issues. If it's not working on your phone, try desktop.

Out of the multiple browsers tested (Firefox, Google, Edge, Brave, Safari), Firefox had some issues sporadically.

I'm still going to post lessons on here, first. This page is priority to me, and the website is more of an archive.

The fonts are normal past this opening page.

You don't understand. Assassin's Creed III IS about racism. The issue of racism is embedded DEEPLY into the game's core and not enough people talk about it.

The game does a REMARKABLE job with portraying the BLATANT hypocrisy of the colonists and the Founding Fathers. It's in the way they are so quick to use Connor and his skills for their own ends, never TRULY giving back to him in anyway that's equal to what he gave them.

It's in the way Connor calls out Sam Adams hypocrisy for owning Surry. And the way Sam claims the liberties of those who aren't white can wait because THE WHITE people don't have their freedom. But "don't worry. We will get to them when we get to them"

Except the kind of freedom he's equating is one of economic and political representation for men like HIM while those like Surry are literal PROPERTY. While people like Connor are treated like pests who's land they can steal and who's culture and identity becomes a holy fucking mission to destroy. While women full stop WERE NOT CONSIDERED AT ALL. This was a war for the freedom of white men. Not everyone and it's a joke it was at all considered a war for freedom.

George Washington also being the massive racist he was. Actively USING Connor for his own ends and throwing his people to the wolves while dressing up his own bigotry in a heroic veneer you can smell from a mile off.

And Charles Lee. Oh that bastard. THE racist. His monologue to a CHILD who's throat he is crushing being so cruel, so devoid of any humanity right before he burns a tribe theoretically because he could not find the precursor site. Showing the true colours of this man we spent hours befriending. How the "eager, enthusiastic side kick" act Haytham fell for peels away to reveal a deeply bigoted man.

Haytham's own short comings too. Connor's white father excusing his racist buddy even when he learns Lee KILLED his wife/partner (to put it bluntly) Haytham actively using the danger coming for Connor's tribe to manipulate Connor. Using this as a tool for his tactics instead of the serious matter it is without a care for how it would affect Connor AND assuming point blank Connor would FALL for it.

It's in the way that guard sees Connor and Haytham together and says mockingly "tasted the forest fruits did you?" To Haytham while Connor is RIGHT there.

It's in the way at the end of the game Connor stands on his own, looking at the new country he helped form and realising his people are still gone, pushed away because of the deals and politics formed by the colonists he helped. It's in the way the last shot of the revolution happens, and Connor looks back to see a fucking slave auction. Realising he was used again and again by people who claimed freedom and equality but never actually MEANT it in the ways it should apply.

It's in the way Achilles as a character is important and how his identity shaped him and his sense of the world.

It's in the way Connor can't go by his REAL name.

If this game came out today it would be censored to high hell to protect the sensibilities of Americans who only believe a fairytale of how their country was formed into what it is today. I'm actually so impressed the writers CARED enough about the history of this time period to more accurately show what was REALLY going. And it's why it's one of my favourites...back when history was more than a fucking backdrop for the games and when it mattered to the narrative.

Once when I was in undergrad, someone described something as “problematic” in class and our professor was like, “That’s cool, but ‘problematic’ doesn’t really mean anything. It means that the thing you’re describing has a problem, and in and of itself that’s not bad. Art, especially, should always have problems, or else it’s not interesting and not art, either. It sounds like you’re trying to say that this is bad, but you don’t want to say ‘bad.’ Is that right?”

So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the “bad” thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, “I’m uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.”

Once we stopped calling things “problematic” and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, “that’s racist” or “that’s misogynistic” or “ew capitalism gross” out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, “Uhhh... I’m not sure what’s so bad?” and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.

Anyway. Whenever I see the word problematic, I can’t help but think of this professor being like, “Good starting point, now let’s get specific.” I think when we have to commit to saying “that’s ___” it requires a lot more careful thought about the truth and impact and complexities of whatever we’re claiming. Sometimes there really is some bullshit afoot, and also sometimes it’s art, and it should be full of problems, because that’s what art is.
