the biggest lesson im learning is that nothing is as extreme or as permanent as our emotions convince us they are. nothing is certain and things are always fluctuating and there are always exceptions and there are always mistakes. there is always pain and there is always love. everything is a delicate touch away from changing

Hey! I really like how you do the shading on your pixel art, is there any method you use to decide when to alternate the black and white spaces?

Thanks! If you’re referring to the checkerboard dithering, I made a nifty little chart a bit ago so I wouldn’t forget myself lmao.

I tackle it more or less the same as regular dithering and shading, but in bigger, chunkier sections. As to when and where to use it? I guess that just comes down to intuition and preference, at this point. Sometimes I put more emphasis on making cool patterns as opposed to accurately defining shading areas, like with the little Y/N demon. Z1 uses the nontraditional dithering in a more traditional way, to define the shape of his gas mask and fur hood.

The thing about ADHD is that we’re basically chronically understimulated. Your brain wants to be at a certain level of activity at all times. If whatever you’re doing doesn’t provide enough stimulation, you find something to add–like turning on the radio while driving. If you can’t find something to add, your brain will make something up. And now you’re zoned out and daydreaming and unable to do whatever it is you were trying to do in the first place. The key is not trying to remove all distractions. The key is finding some sort of additional stimulus that doesn’t interfere with the task at hand. Got a bunch of reading to do? See if you can find an audio or pdf version of it that you can pop into a text-to-speech program like Natural Readers. Then you can doodle or play a game like Minecraft on mute while you listen. Now your brain is engaged enough that it won’t feel as much of a need to escape into daydreaming.

Was just informed by my mom that I do in fact have ADHD and the reason I thought I didn’t was because ever since I was seven whenever I got super energetic my mom would have me go chop wood so now when I’m feeling The ADHD I go chop wood and I thought it was just some sort of routine I started when I was little and wanted to blow off steam

I’d also like to point out that my sister has a really hard time staying present (I can’t remember the term because we’ve always called it Tethered at my house) and whenever she’s feeling Untethered my mom has her knead bread and make syrup because they’re repetitive and easy things to do that ground her

Now that I’m thinking about it- my brother has days where he doesn’t talk and doesn’t eat unless he’s prompted, and on those days my mom sits him down in the fish pond in the backyard and plays Mozart and because he’s so used to that being his wake up he always comes back in after like an hour rambling about random things

Oh yeah and when it rains my mom has a required hour where we all have to go outside and run around and whoever finds the most worms for the garden wins and then we go inside and my mom makes us tea and we watch Studio Ghibli movies
